Room was very comfortable and spacious with all of the needed (and more) amenities. Bed was very comfy with great pillow choices to allow for a pleasant rest. Loved the outdoor shower and bath tub, as well as the large closet. Food and drink were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the bell pepper cocktail with just the right amount of spicey kick. Service at this hotel is top notch--and I was often greeted by name.

From the moment you arrive till the morning that yell "no" because you don't want to leave, The Viceroy is truly the best place we've ever been in Mexico. It is truly a magical place. We never could decide if we were at a beach resort or in a Mayan jungle paradise. The villas are incredibly beautiful and secluded, the service was unbelievable, the spa services were wonderful, and even the gym (should you dare! LOL!) was beautiful with scenic views. This place will capture your heart!

The service and luxury of this resort made this a trip I’d consider repeating - and I normally would not repeat a destination. Our villa was clean and private, regularly attended to without us even being aware of it. The common space was well maintained and staffed. Shout out to Victor, Pepe, and the bar tender for never letting us go without a drink by the pool or a snack on the beach. We really enjoyed this opportunity to rest and recharge and be pampered at this resort.

My wife and I just returned from our vacation at the Viceroy. I can not say enough about the extremely high level of service we received. The entire staff went over and above to ensure that our vacation was stress and worry free. Whether refreshing a drink by the beach or pool, ensuring our meals were everything we expected to saying buenos dias using our names and smiling, it was extremely memorable. The food was all excellent and fresh, not a bad choice on the menu. The rooms are spectacular, well appointed and extremely clean. We also enjoyed our welcome guests of cats, coatis, and monkeys! So many of the staff to thank, but special shout out to Pepe our beach buddy, Oscar the best bartender and Luis, who served us breakfast almost every morning. I would not hesitate to return to this wonderful resort

If I had to guess I bet the staff to guest ratio is about 3/1. Everyone on site knows your name and room number.
The best part is spending the day laying on the beach in a bed that is serviced by staff to bring you whatever your heart desires.
Pepe is the absolute best. He is a server that goes above and beyond. You have never had the service like he provides. He is always so happy and helpful. Thank you Pepe!! We will see you again next year.

Stayed in a spacious beach from cabana steps off the white sand. This resort has very few rooms, so if you're looking for quiet, relaxed, and upscale, this is your place. Close to Playa Del Carmen but out of the chaos it gives chill island vibes vs the massive all inclusive. They only allow children over 12, so much more of an adult experience than the screaming family one. Staff were super attentive and the allocated butler attends to your every request through WhatsApp. I'm going to be back.

Viceroy Riviera Maya exceeded our expectations. Our two floor, ocean view villa was incredible. The staff were friendly and the food was 10/10. We loved how exclusive and intimate this resort was. We also loved the proximity of the ocean to our resort. We will definitely be back! - Shafraaz

We have just returned from a 7 night stay in a signature villa. Our stay was perfect from start to finish.
The setting is stunning in the jungle and our villa felt very private. It was a perfect haven of relaxation. It’s close enough to playa del Carmen which we visited most nights for dinner and live music. It’s very easy in a taxi $25 each way.
The resort is spotless and very well maintained. The staff and the service are exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. We were completely spoilt around the pool. The sunbeds are very comfortable, especially the swinging day beds. Staff are on hand to bring fruit kebabs, a cocktail and even clean your sunglasses. We literally flopped and barely moved which is very unlike us but R&R is the name of the game at this place.
We thought the breakfast choice and quality was very good. On a chilly morning, staff were on hand with ponchos which was very welcome.
Alberto one of the main butlers was super helpful and always on hand to assist even before we arrived at the resort. He gave us excellent restaurant and excursion suggestions. Thank you Alberto!
The only thing we didn’t do was swim in the sea as it was too rocky and with large waves, I was concerned about falling. The pool area was more than enough though.
Thank you for an incredible stay. The viceroy are very lucky to have such incredible staff that provide the best service, attentive but not overbearing in the most beautiful of settings. The perfect way to celebrate 20 years of marriage.

Exactly what a luxury boutique experience should be. With only 40 rooms, this intimate resort delivers a level of personalized attention that larger properties simply can't match. Our spacious villa exceeded all expectations, offering the perfect blend of luxury and privacy. The thoughtful layout and design made it feel like our own personal sanctuary within the gorgeous resort grounds.
The food was fantastic. Special mention must go to Carlos and Victor, whose outstanding service at the Coral restaurant elevated each dining experience to truly memorable. Their attention to detail (like our wine preferences) and genuine warmth made every meal feel special. Like I said, the service exceeded all expectations.
With just 40 rooms, the property maintains an exclusive, intimate atmosphere that made us feel like valued guests rather than just another room number.
My wife and I spent 7 nights here and I can honestly say we're already dreaming of our return. If you're looking for a perfect blend of luxury, privacy, and personalized service in a boutique setting, you can't go wrong. This is Mexican hospitality at its finest.

The setting is tranquil, the villas are well designed, very large, and private. The staff are incredibly attentive, polite, personalble, intuitive, professional and take pride in what they do. This was a one week getaway for my wife and I to celebrate her birthday and generally unwind. This is our 8th time to the area and our taste has evolved from the big resorts that cater to everyone to the small boutique resorts such as Viceroy. We appreciate the personal attention we received by all, from Alberto's welcome upon arrival, to Christina and her teams perfection in the kitchen, to sommelier Carlos(1)' expertise, with waiters Pablo & Carlos(2)' attention (honorable mention to Mario) in the main dining restaurant "La Marea". Abner, Victor, Jesus, and Fransisco were spot on in the "Coral Restarurant & Bar". Jose, Juan, and Pepe were kickin' it poolside with snack, lounger, sunglass, chilled towel, and drink service. We'll not soon forget the salsa dance lessons put together by Alberto & Carla just for my wife on her birthday, from a simple mention my wife made to Pablo and Carlos a day prior. I don't know how we're going top this one... perhaps only by a second visit.

My wife and I usually go to the various El Dorado resorts in Riviera Maya and have a perfect vacation every time. She wanted to try this resort after seeing they hand craft soaps on site, we later found out they no longer do this (bummer). The resort is very small and cozy with a super thick jungle vibe which is cool. Our original villa (#21) near the spa didn't have hardly any sun at our plunge pool so we asked to move the first day. Waking up the next morning there were two very large (dead) cockroaches in the room and one very large (not dead) spider which we had to chase down and kill (EEK!). The manager had showed us an upgraded room right off the pool area with a little back entrance (#54) and had great sun in the plunge pool area in the afternoon. We took the upgrade and were off. The creepy critters didn't seem to be an problem in this one until the last three nights. I huge wolf spider in the bathroom we had to wrangle, and I was so freaked out I rolled up a towel and put in at the entry door. The next morning when I removed the towel...another huge spider, very fast and jumping that we had to kill. NOW I'M FREAKED OUT!!! I do not like spiders and have not even seen one in Mexico our previous 17 trips. I went and complained to the manager in charge and she sent people to spray the room. Cool, no more incidents the last night. I would suggest they spray more often being such a jungle heavy resort! Also, seems like the two villas we were in could use some upgrades to the fit & finish as they are looking a bit old.
The pool...strangely too hot! Weird, every resort we've been to the pool is always a bit chilly until you get used to it. This one was hot even when it was 89 degrees outside, not refreshing at all. I asked one of the pool butlers and he said the pool heater doesn't work so it's not heated. It's a little strange...The pool never seems to close which is a bummer, most resorts don't allow you to continue hanging out in the pool after 5-6pm. There were several nights during diner that people were still in the pool being drunk and obnoxious while we were having dinner at the Coral restaurant and it was not great. The staff were keeping an eye on them but didn't seem to ask them to stop.
Our outdoor plunge pool area was never cleaned until the last day after I complained about it, why?? We had great housekeeping service but the mini bar was not stocked everyday also (again, I had to complain about this?). I went to the pool bar most nights to get the refreshments we wanted for the night, as we had purchased the all inclusive package (also very pricey) so this wasn't a huge deal, but still.
The beach/restaurant staff is phenomenal! Pepe, William and Juan at the pool/beach area take such great care of you! The bartenders were all great, and every waiter we had was great (especially Andreas)! The food was mostly very good. Some of the dinners were not our favorites, but breakfast and lunch were always good. The Mexican street food night was very average, but the surf and turf night was amazing!
The beach...not very good. I'm glad they give you water shoes because you'll need them. We had stayed at the Fives twice before so we would walk over there and swim a couple times during our stay. Also, would walk down to the Grand Villas and Mayakoba beach (about 1-2 miles down the beach) to swim because their beach is amazing!
We went to the gym most mornings which is small but adequate. It has all the tools you need to get in a workout while you are there and the room is completely surrounded by glass panels at the highest point of the resort, so you feel like you are working outside in the jungle!
Overall, it's a nice intimate resort, but very pricey and we will not be returning.

We just got home from our 4th stay at Viceroy Riviera Maya and are already dreaming of our return. It is definitely a favorite for us and it has never disappointed.
From the moment we arrived and were welcomed into the unique outdoor lobby to the moment we left, we were completely spoiled. They greet you with the most delicious coconut water & lemongrass tea and cool towels. Paulo (sorry if I spelled that wrong!) took us to our room (nicely and surprisingly decorated for my husband’s birthday), showed us around the beautiful room and patio complete with private plunge pool and outdoor shower, cut us fresh soap (such a lovely touch!) and offered us their welcome tequila! What a great way to start a vacation.
From there our vacation was in full effect. We were treated so well at each meal and by the pool/beach everyday. Pepe and Francisco, who we’ve had the pleasure of serving us in the past, made sure our every need was met even before we asked! They anticipate your wants and be sure to go above and beyond. You literally don’t have time to wish for another drink or snack as they are asking so frequently! If you want to lay by the pool, they’ll set up your chairs. Want to move to the beach? They’ll take care of you. It’s truly amazing service. Carlos came to meet us the first evening and then checked in with us each evening after. He’d find us by the pool or at our dinner reservation to be sure we were having a nice time.
We treated ourselves to a couples massage and it was amazing! Rosa gave my husband his best deep tissue massage and I throughly enjoyed my relaxing massage with Julio. We were set up outside with a fan above and waterfalls to the side. So wonderfully relaxing!
I could write down much more but will leave it at that. If you are considering, don’t hesitate! Just know it is completely chill - no casino or loud parties - but total relaxation in a lovely setting. I also recommend the all-inclusive package. Totally worth it!
We truly love it here and can’t wait until we return.

TL;DR Version: This is truly outstanding. It hits all the marks for a choosy couple and is more than worth it.
As we settle in for our last night at this property, my wife and I are in love with it. As we get older, we admit that we are very picky about rooms, food, and service—all of it. (Sea Island in Georgia is a family favorite.) We are already thinking about when we can come back.
We've stayed in the area on several occasions before (Cozumel and Cancun), and this is, by far, the best experience we have had. Some of our other experiences at other properties have ranged from disappointing to very good, but none great. This property was exceptional.
Nature has been left intact on this property, and it appears many structures have been built around the natural beauty of the rainforest-like area. It manages to be both functional and beautiful. With only 41 rooms, you will find peace, quiet, and privacy.
Room - The rooms are spacious, and the decor is elegant. The bedroom is roomy and comfortable, the linens are as good as home, and the King-sized bed in our room was one of the best at any place we have ever stayed. The bedroom opens onto a sizable outdoor area that could easily seat 4-5 people with room to spare and a lovely plunge pool that can be heated. The bathroom is large with modern amenities and a practical design for two or more, with twin sinks, an indoor shower and an outdoor shower with contemporary fixtures, good water pressure and temperature, and a bathtub. The bathroom includes a large walk-in closet.
Spa - The spa is relaxing, peaceful, and modern, with a sauna and hot tub. My wife and I booked massage treatments, which were excellent. My wife also booked other services and found them blissful.
Beach and Pool area - These areas are not massive but spacious. Pool and beach chairs (more like comfy individual lounging areas) are easy to find, and we never felt too close to other guests.
Food—We wanted to explore, so we did not eat dinner on the property. But we did eat breakfast and lunch. Both were excellent. The menu selections fit all appetites and diets and are extensive.
Service - As fantastic as everything I've mentioned so far is, the service is even better - impeccable. Like a roving concierge, a butler will assist with anything you need. If you think of the places you have visited where service is friendly and accommodating and doesn't just meet your needs but anticipates them, this is that kind of place. Taking care of people is the core of this property.
The staff was all outstanding. Special thanks to Alberto, our butler; Pepe, our waiter on the beach; and Maria and Rosa of the spa staff.
Value—It's beyond worth the price. I'd be surprised if the rates remain this low. This property will surely gain an even larger following. We are grateful to AMEX Travel for pointing us in this direction.
For us, this kind of resort is hit-and-miss. This was a big hit, and we hope to return soon.

We stayed for 2 weeks and have to say everything about this hotel is top draw. The staff are incredible - can't shout out everyone but from Joel front of house to Carlos the Service Manager to Pepe around the pool / beach area the staff were truly amazing! They remember your names and everything is very personalized. Breakfasts are consistently high quality and the lunch/evening menus are sufficiently varied. The filet mignon was SO delicious we asked for it two nights later and they specially prepared it - it was as good as the first time!
Prices are at the top end, but having spent 2 weeks prior to this stay near Tulum you basically get what you pay for (as is always the case). Would we go again? Definitely. Would we go for 2 weeks? No. We'd go for a week because this place (with each room essentially in the jungle) is SO relaxing you start to want a bit more activity after a while. We did use the gym and there is also sauna / wellness facilities on hand.
Overall an extremely nice experience and highly recommended!
