They’re one of the only ruins in the world that sit on a cliff overlooking the sea, and in addition to the intriguing history, the views are world-class.
  • SWIM LIKE A MAYAN: Swim beneath the ancient Mayan civilization at a beach right beneath the ancient castle of Tulum. You can hit up this fun little beach after exploring the archaeological ruins to your heart’s content.

These dazzling pools are fed underground through the world’s largest underground river system, the Great Maya Aquifer, which runs throughout the Mexican Caribbean. D’znot, as they were known by the Mayas, were sacred places that Mayans be-lieved they were connected with a underworld called Xibalbá, where their gods and spirits resided after death.

That’s only where the fun begins, however. For lots more to see and do, check out the incredible experiences at Emotions Native Park, Aktun Chen, Kantun Chi!

Travel Tips

  • GETTING IN: Tulum is usually reached via Playa del Carmen, by bus, by van, or by car. There are ADO buses which have excellent amenities, as well as cheaper bus services, but a private transfer is the luxurious option honeymooners should strive for.
  • GETTING AROUND: Taxis are good for getting around the city of Tulum, as well as all the fun in the surrounding area. Private vans and shuttles are an amenity at many local ho-tels. And, as usual, private car service is the most luxurious and private, but also the most expensive.
