The Fairmont Mayakoba resort was absolutely amazing. The property is huge with a ton of things to do. The weather and the beach was perfect I entire trip with the exception of some quick showers that passed shortly. The service was unlike any other resort we’ve stayed at. With shout outs to Filberto helping us at the beach, Daniel at Gaia, and Irvin at Las Olas pool bar.
Everyone has been so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The food has been exceptional as well. Would definitely recommend making dinner reservations in advance as there can be a bit of a wait at times.
They have a small but very functional gym. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The beds are so comfortable and we slept fantastically this trip.
Just overall this resort has exceeded our expectations. It proved to be a fun and relaxing trip with top notch service through and through.

The Fairmont Mayakoba is a tired resort - run down. The staff is NOT tired. Service is consistently excellent. The rooms show a lot of wear - they are however very clean. The staff cannot do enough. I was waiting for the concierge (he was helping another guest) and another staff member approached me and asked how she could help. She took care of my change of dinner reservation so I went have to wait. Anyone you stop on the property with any question is eager to help in any way they can.
The property is massive, with 4 different hotels and therefore so many dining choices. This makes it a delight to choose a different option each night without having to leave the compound.
Also, the canals/lagoons offer lovely views of wildlife and also another mode of transportation - boats.
Overall, it’s a nice getaway for a few days but if you’re particular about the physical appearance of your accommodation, u might opt for Rosewood.

Just returned from a 4 day/3 night stay at the Fairmont. Overall the property is beautiful and definitely feels aesthetically expensive and luxurious but we would likely not return.
The good:
•we stayed in a Signature Casita King with Lagoon view. We got this room via a great deal on AAA so I do think it was a good value comparable to what others likely paid for the same room. The bathroom was stunning and only second to the overwater bungalow we stayed at in Moorea in terms of spaciousness. The outside shower and huge soaking tub overlooking the window to the plant life outside were lovely.
•the dinners at the onsite restaurants were great. We ate at Bassano and Tauro and we enjoyed both. The sirloin at Tauro was a bit tough but we enjoyed the sides. The pasta at Bassano tasted house made and the pizza made in the outdoor oven were great. The lunches are a different story (see below). We had lunch offsite at La Fontina one day (OK food but certainly not the level of rave reviews that it seems to get on TripAdvisor) and had dinner at Zapote at Rosewood (again good food but enjoyed our meal at Fuego Santo in downtown PDC much better). Overall I think the overarching theme is food is pretty good but could probably find same or better quality and cheaper off site elsewhere.
•the service from the golf cart/support staff and the service in the restaurants was fantastic.
The bad:
•the foyer to our room leaked rainwater under the door twice during our stay. The first time we reached out to our butler to let them know and they advised they would send someone out to clean it. After waiting around 20-30 minutes, we just cleaned it ourselves as no one came and it was literally blocking our exit to the room. The second time it occurred was on the day of check out which got our things wet that were waiting at the door. Frustrating and should be a simple fix.
•the pool service was extremely spotty. The service at the beach pool at the Maykana beach club was prompt and attentive, however, the service at the main pool was almost nonexistent. One time a waiter came and took our drink order in the hot tub and then just never returned. One day, we asked at the Las Olas beach bar if we could place our food order with them since the chair side waiter never returned after giving us menus and they told us we’d have to go back to our chairs and wait for him. It took about an hour between receiving the food menus and getting a live person to take our order. With multiple empty or open chairs available, it seems odd that there should’ve been such a big delay.
•being big pool people, we are typically very particular with the pool situation at resorts. The pools here are all unheated which makes them quite uninviting when the weather is cloudy. The pool layout themselves would be better served if they adjusted who can access which pools. The adult only pool is off to the side overlooking the lagoon and is quite isolated which does make it more quiet, however there’s no associated bar or hot tub so if you want those services nearby, you’re stuck going to the main pool or the pool at the beach. This would probably be a better choice for the kids pool for these reasons. The beach pool is fairly small and the combination of the landscaping, the paid cabanas lining one entire edge, being located right next to Brisas restaurant, and the infinity edge overlooking the ocean gives it a much more chill, relaxed vibe so ideally this should be the adult pool. Instead it’s allowed to be overrun with screaming, splashing children. Given its size, kids playing in this particular pool makes it almost unusable. The seating at this pool is also extremely limited (as above, one edge of it is entirely lined with paid only cabanas which mostly sat empty) so unless you’re down there first thing in the morning, you’re unlikely to get a seat there. The hot tub at the main pool, while absolutely huge and a perfect temperature, is unfortunately the only one on the property and is NOT adult only. The days we were there had some clouds and rain so this was basically treated by families like a heated pool, and again, overrun by screaming, splashing children. Multiple adult guests enjoying the hot tub were treated to kids cannonballing into the hot tub or playing catch and splashing everywhere and the annoyance was palpable. Definitely not a relaxing hot tub experience. Either more than one hot tub should be available or it should have *at the minimum* a no playing/roughhousing rule and enforcement.
•the lunch situation is not very clear. Breakfast is either buffet or a la carte at Brisas. We ate at Brisas once, food was good but not a huge amount of options. Lunch was basically ordering at the pool bars (as above, not a super easy option) or La Cantina which did not have super appealing options, to us. We did eat the pool food twice and it was fine, nothing special. Typically we would have the option of dining at the Andaz or the Rosewood for lunch but we were told Rosewood was only taking outside guests for dinner and Andaz wasn’t taking anyone (presumably) in preparation for a lengthy renovation shut down. Not the fault of the Fairmont but when we asked our butler about making lunch reservations, they weren’t clear on what was available to us either and we basically had to figure it out on our own.
•as others have said, the resort is sprawling and the layout requires a lot of walking, even if not using the golf cart options. We never had to wait more than 5-7 minutes for a cart to come by so no complaints there. However, if you want to go to the beach pool but are staying in a non-beach room, expect a minimum of 15-20 minutes to get there when you factor in walking to a cart stop, waiting, riding down, and arriving at your destination. It makes a quick run back to your room a huge hassle and makes trying to snag a spot down there far more difficult than the folks who are staying at the beach side rooms (read: paying more money).
Overall, for the AAA deal we got, it was a good value as we had been wanting to try a resort in Mayakoba so this was a great way to do so without breaking the bank but I think we would be disappointed had we paid full price.

We stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba for 7 glorious days. We had a Signature Casita in the 300 section, which we simply loved. Our balcony overlooking the canal was where we enjoyed our coffee in the morning and a late afternoon drink.. so peaceful and quiet. The property is gorgeous! The buildings are set into the landscape so well and the grounds are kept pristine. The beach is one of the nicest we have seen anywhere. Getting to and from the beach was quick and easy with the shuttles, which passed by frequently - we never had to wait. We never had an issue getting chairs under a palapa at the beach, as we went to the area that was farthest from the beach club building.
We found the entire experience exceeded our expectations - the property, our room, the restaurants, everything.
But what really made this a 5 star experience for us were all the of lovely staff we interacted with, who made us feel so welcome. Oscar, who was our Captain for the boat tour, was friendly and informative, and slowed or stopped the boat to point out beautiful birds and allow us to take pictures. Eduardo and Armando at Bassano, Maria and Shaden at Cafe Maya, Diana, Adalberto at la Cantina, Rodrigo at La Laguna, Roxana and Eva at Brisas, Mauricio at Fuego (thanks for introducing us to Mexican Nebbiolo, this became our wine of choice for the week), and many others, were so knowledgeable and enthusiastic to share the details of the delicious Mexican cuisine on offer. Also Gerson at the bell desk - one morning as we returned from our morning jog on the nature trail, he saw us walking up the driveway, and came over to ask us if we would like some water - he returned not just with the water but with two face towels soaked with rose-scented cold water - what a nice touch! The woman who was tidying our room, when she learned how much I liked the little cards with the pictures of local birds on them, that were placed in the rooms at night (with information about the weather the next day, and info about the bird depicted), later dropped off the full set of 12. For me, this was the best souvenir, as one other striking feature about this resort is the large variety of birds you can see and hear all day long. This kind of personal touch happened a lot during our week - the members of the service team are really focused on the guests!
We will not forget this vacation! Thank you, Fairmont Mayakoba.
