Now that your wedding planning is well underway, it’s time to start brainstorming ideas for your romantic honeymoon. But if you’ve learned that planning really isn’t on your list of favorite things to do, opting for a honeymoon package might make things a little easier.

Most hotels and travel booking sites offer exclusive honeymoon packages, which often include airfare and accommodations. Some all-inclusive packages even include unlimited meals and beverages. Some adults-only resorts offer even more luxurious amenities. Booking a honeymoon package to a hotel or all-inclusive resort will provide you both with the rest and relaxation needed after the big day, and offer you a wealth of wonderful choices.

Explore our recommendations for the top all-inclusive honeymoon packages.

However, there are several things to consider before booking one of these special honeymoon packages. While they may sound like the most affordable and convenient option, there are definitely some pros and cons to keep in mind.

The Pros

1. There’s potential for serious savings

Because everything is bundled together, rates can be reduced by a whopping 25 percent. All-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic tend to have more affordable pricing than those in Asia or Europe, which is something you should consider when selecting a destination.

If food, beverages, and even some excursions or activities are included, there’s a really good chance you’ll see significant savings.

2. Less stressful

If you just planned an entire wedding, you might be too exhausted to plan a honeymoon from scratch, and that’s totally acceptable. Selecting a honeymoon package requires way less planning and preliminary research.

All you really need to consider is the rating of the hotel or resort and what’s included in the package. If you choose an all-inclusive, you’ll likely be spending a lot of time lounging near the pool or beach. So you don’t need to research the surrounding area nearly as much as if you were renting an Airbnb or hotel.

3. Saves you time

Does anybody really have the time or energy to sit and plan a honeymoon when they are working full-time? Booking a honeymoon package is incredibly convenient and will save you tons of time.

4. Many packages include complementary activities

Depending on the resort that’s included in the honeymoon package, many offer complimentary excursions or activities like snorkeling, ziplining, or spa experiences. If adventure is important to you and your new spouse, be sure to select a package that includes some exhilarating experiences at no extra cost.

Many honeymoon packages also offer golf packages or substantial discounts on the more expensive activities. Cruises are also a great option for couples who like to stay active as they often have volleyball courts and other entertaining amenities on deck. I love to cruise, as your fare is always for two people inclusive. Even better, many of the high-end, upscale cruise lines offer all-inclusive packages, which means all of your meals, snacks, spirits, cocktails, soft drinks, coffees, even some excursions, and more — are all included. The lower end mass-market lines are typically cost-plus and while the fares are more affordable, you can wind up spending a great deal on the basics.

5. There’s the option of getting married at the resort before the honeymoon commences

Some resorts allow couples to get married for free at their location if they pre-book a honeymoon that’s longer than their minimum stay. This is an extremely affordable and convenient option, especially since many resorts have onsite wedding planners that can help. A great choice, in my opinion.

6. You don’t have to bring your wallet everywhere with you

If you select a honeymoon package at an all-inclusive, you can totally leave your wallet in your room safe as everything is pre-paid. Not having to swipe your credit card every few hours also removes any money-related stress that could occur on the romantic trip. Worrying about money isn’t sexy nor relaxing!

7. It can be added to your wedding registry

Couples who pre-select a honeymoon package can easily add it to their wedding registry. This is a great option for couples who don’t feel comfortable asking for money to put toward their trip (even though we think it’s completely appropriate to do so). It used to be that registries only allowed you to choose dinnerware, silver and kitchen accessories — but nowadays, you can add a honeymoon package and get it paid for. Who doesn’t love that?

Instead, wedding guests can contribute money toward a trip that’s already booked and details are provided.

8. Honeymoon upgrades are a possibility

When you book a honeymoon package, the resort and its hotel staff all know that you’re on your honeymoon. Because of this, many of them will try to make it extra special for you by giving you upgrades or special gifts. That can include everything from a rose-petal trail from the bedroom to the bubble bath, or special messages on your bed, created out of flower petals and towel animals.

The Cons

1. You might spend all of your trip in the resort

When opting for an all-inclusive that has restaurants, bars, and entertainment on-site, there’s always a chance that you spend all of your time there. Because of this, you won’t get to explore the local area and popular tourist attractions. Personally, I like to just go to an all-inclusive (such as Sandals) and spend all my time there resting and relaxing.

2. Limited dining options

Most all-inclusive resorts and cruises have a few restaurants on location. But if you’re staying for a week or two, you could very well get sick of eating the same meals at the same restaurants. But if you’re a creature of habit and love to eat the same food every day, this definitely won’t be a problem for you.

3. Might be less quiet than you’d expected

If you’re looking to spend some romantic, quiet time with your new partner, be sure to source out honeymoon packages at adult-only resorts. Family-friendly resorts can be a little hectic, especially if you’re not bringing your own kids along.

4. A honeymoon package might be too low-key

Depending on the couple and what they like to do, a honeymoon package for a cruise or all-inclusive might be a little too relaxing. If the two of you love to explore and go on adventures, a honeymoon package might not be the best idea as they often promote a lot of time to chill out.

5. The “honeymoon” price could be more than booking it all separately

It’s no surprise that vendors upcharge as soon as they find out a wedding is involved. While it’s incredibly fair, it’s an easy way for them to gouge money from customers. Because of this, be sure to research the honeymoon package price versus the price of everything if you booked it all separately. If it ends up costing less, there’s no shame in skipping the honeymoon package.

In some cases, the price of the honeymoon packages (especially in Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean) may override the benefit of saving money. If you’re trying to be very mindful of your budget, doing some extra research won’t hurt.

Wrapping It Up

So, are honeymoon packages worth it? Yes.

The pros of a honeymoon package far outweigh the cons. While they may not be for everyone, a honeymoon package is a great option for many honeymooners.

Honeymoon packages can be a great way to save money and ensure that everything is taken care of before your big trip. While it may seem like a lot to spend upfront, honeymoon packages often include discounts on travel and accommodations, as well as access to exclusive activities and experiences.

For couples who want to enjoy a hassle-free honeymoon, a package can be worth the investment. Plus, who doesn’t love a good deal? With so many amazing places to see and things to do, honeymoon packages give you the opportunity to create lasting memories without breaking the bank. So go ahead and treat yourselves—you deserve it!
