Great location especially close to LA Pina restaurant where we had a scrumptious LA Pina pizza and chicken tacos with a banana smoothy. A great experience all round. Great off the street car parking. Would definitely recommend this accommodation.

Spacious apartment, friendly staff
We did not expect that we booked an apartment, with an own kitchen. If you ask at the reception, a staff member will open the gate to Avenida 1, from where you can easily reach the laguna or restaurants. Staff was very polite and helpful.

I had read several of the previous reviews and was very skeptical because some said it was run-down, dated etc. My french husband and I ended up here because many things in town were full. I don’t know if we got a renovated room or what but our experience was great. The receptionist was sweet and courteous. Our room #306 was very large, beautiful, amazing view, nice full kitchen and large sitting area. The bedroom was clean and new. The 2 air conditioners worked very well. The pool was clean and had a great view and as you can see in the photo, our balcony was picture perfect. Make sure to visit the Fort San Felipe museum. We thought it would be a tourist trap but the information is actually really well presented and you can really learn a lot about the history of the Mayan Indians, the Spaniard conquistadors, the pirates and this amazing place. We ate at the restaurant 2nd floor on the north side of the plaza and the service was the fastest we have had in Mexico. The margaritas, food and price were great too. The lagoon of Bacalar was perfect temperature even if it was super windy. Many told us that the Bacalar boat tour is a great experience, but the wind was so strong and we decided that we will have to come back for that. Make sure to swim, the Water is wonderful.

Staff pleasant enough, breakfast was mediocre. The drama?.... At 05.00 a.m. we were woken by an intruder. They had opened the glass sliding window beside our bed and were in the process of climbing into our room. I scared them off and reported the incident to reception. They didn't seem to care, so we left, shaken, but not stirred.

A very good location, excellent price, I only have two issues, first could be perfect if they have the restaurant bar open all day long and my room has a wonderful view to the laguna but you can't see the landscape because there is a huge closet blocking the sight.

After running in to a road block courtesy of an adjacent town to Bacalar, we had little choice but to stay at Villas Bacalar. The suite was huge with an impressive view of the lake, however resembled something from the 70's. The accommodation provides no restaurant although the suite provides a kitchen if wanting to cook. The wifi in the rooms was mostly non existent as we monitored the road block situation online.

Nice place to stay, good price , the rooms are BIG and comfortables, the AC. A little noisy but works good.
Thel pool is small but comfortable with a nice view. Good parking area, BACALAR VILLAS does not have restaurant, but not necessary you can eat at the downtown.
Outdated and totally overprized

We spend 4 nights in a 1 bedroom condo. The condo is very spacious and the view on the lagoon is spectacular but the condos are very outdated. Old furniture, nothing you can sit on is comfortable, the A/C wasn't working 3 out of 4 nights, the fan was not working and you can't even open the windows because they don't have any mosquito nets in front of the windows. Very old TV from the last millennium and we only had some plates and cups and had to ask for some forks and knives to eat breakfast. The pool is very murky and the entire building needs a paint job.
So 125.- US per night is definitely too much.
Never again

We stayed here out of necessity as other choices were full. We were one of the very few staying there (although the booking site made it appear as if it were almost full.) The room did have a good view and the size of the rooms was fine (bath a bit tight but the hot water was good). The kitchen was dated and not greatly equipped but it was fine for breakfast. My biggest concern was a really strong sewage type smell in the bath and bedroom which we tried to air out (there were no screens on the windows so it was a choice between smell and bites). The next day the cleaning crew came through and it the smell was gone--- the management should be aware of this as I read it on other reviews. Wifi was fine.
The hotel is not on the lake, we never found the beach that was supposed to be connected with this place, instead we paid a small fee to use the beach that is directly in front of the hotel...about an 8 minute walk. Well, really it was not a beach, it is a lake front of grassy lawn up to a cement edge to the lake. It is not especially clean, the area is used for family picnics and there are bottle caps and paper all about. Later I read that in November 2105 the government had issued an alert about sewage and waste being discharged into the lake. I was not overly impressed with the town at all, the lake is pretty yes, but it seemed more like a back packer stop for the younger set.

Expensive for what you get . A small bathroom in relation to the size of the accommodation . Breakfast not included . Not on the water's edge nor near the town . Wifi pretty weak . Owner was pleasant and helpful.
Dirty, smelly rooms and poor WiFi reception
We stayed for 2 nights. The first room we saw was stinky, smell of mold or whatever lived there before. We asked to see another room, but it was also smelly (although less than the first). The third room was the worst so we stayed at the second (no. 107)...

Level of cleaness very poor. Sticky floor and dead bugs everywhere. Service was OK (not that we needed anything special...)
Water pressure in the shower inadequate.
Sheets in the bed were uncomfortable to say the least.
It wouldn't be such a bad experience if it weren't so expensive.
The staff were nice people but it just doesn't worth the price.

There was some inital noise from an adjacent beach club on the lake but this stopped after a holiday weekend.
We stayed for 3 nights but could have stayed longer.
The apartment had a lounge diner with kitchen area, fridge and a microwave.
Close to the lake.
