I am sorry to say that this was the worst vacation I had. Please use this as a warning. The property is very nice although some updating to rooms could happen. It did not feel 5* to us but it was ok.
The food was good with many choices to choose from. I need to call out the staff at this point as they are exceptional at the restaurants. They are very focused on allergies and your needs. It is not super high end but very good. A special call out for Jessica from the Calypso eatery as she was outstanding. She knew hubby and I and totally pampered us throughout our stay! EXCEPTIONAL personalization and professionalism.
Then there is the atmosphere. Perhaps it is partially our fault in not defining what “adults” may have meant and put it in context. To me it meant a degree tranquility and respectfulness. This resort is tooted as high end. We were looking for a relaxing vacation. What we got was a NOISY PARTY RESORT. THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SO TERRIBLE IF IT WAS NOT FROM MORNING TO NIGHT. We were actually moved to the family section and the music still did not stop. I love music…but not without a break. From 10 am to 10 pm there is loud music and noise. It is hard to get away from it. Even in the privacy of your room you can feel the beat. IT IS TOO MUCH. One night we went to dinner and in the lobby there was a tremendously good singer but we could not hear each other it was so loud. This ruined our vacation and we had no way out.
Please do your due diligence. If you want SOME peace and quit do not go here!

We stayed at the Zilara in Nov 2024. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The crowd seemed to be more mature in nature than what you might see at other resorts which worked well for us. Overall, the hotel was nice and comfortable. I’ll touch on some of the highlights and low points.
Highlights:
- They Gym was fantastic. Lots of equipment, tradmills, etc… Room for about 20 in the spin class in and daily yoga.
- Urban Heat restaurant on the family side was a nice spot for breakfast.
- The French restaurant was by far the best on the resort. Top notch !
- Bottled Water free and easily accessible.
- Entertainment – Bob Marley was the highlight for me.
- Couples massage and Hydrotherapy was really good, but on the pricey side.
- Bartenders coulud make just about any drink you wanted !
- Nice grounds area / pools. Kept clean and maintainted.
Low points:
- Have to carry a key card for room. Time to move to wrist bracelets Hyatt !
- Asian restaurant was the biggest disappointment. Italian was also underwhelming.
- The beach is very rocky. Bring water shoes !
Overall, the only thing holding this back from a 5 star review really was the beach and the hit/miss restaurants. However, to be fair, for the price we paid, the food was better than you would see at other resorts in the same price range.

The food also is not on any level disappointing , as opposed to some reviews I have read in the group. If you're looking for 5 star restaurants anywhere then perhaps you should consider going to one that makes you happy off the Resort; but for our tastes everything and everyone are simply the best.

Just returned from a week at Zilara resort. It was overall a disappointing experience. The most positive aspect of the resort was the staff. They were almost all very professional, pleasant & well trained.
To start with the positives: the grounds were well maintained, the “beach” was raked daily, rooms were clean, gym was well equipped
Negatives: The beaches are man made & really small, so no room for long beach walks
The pool area was VERY noisy with loud DJ music from 9am! You need to be out early (7am) to get a sun bed.
Our room was a resort view so we couldn’t get away from the noise on our patio. With the windows closed we could escape the constant noise. There was no safe in the room when we arrived. A new one was installed.
Bring a reusable drink container if you care about waste. Disposable plastic cups & water bottles were the only option at the pool & lobby.
Bring water shoes as it’s stony after you get off the beach sand and into the water.
Food in the buffet was OK. We were in the Zilara but we mostly ate lunch & breakfast at the Choicez in the family area. The food displays were uninspiring & not much variety. The desserts were good & the coffee in the separate coffee shops was good.
We booked restaurants for every night. The food was better at most of the restaurants. The best was Urbanz off the Zilara lobby.
Download the Zilara app from the QR code on your key pack. You can then book the restaurants online OR you can line up at noon in the lobby to book.
Entertainment was very minimal. The best was the Motown group & the steel band.

We stayed at the Hyatt Zilara the first week in March. The grounds and the rooms are beautiful. We would say that the Hyatt Zilara/Ziva has some of the most beautiful palm trees we have ever seen. Although we had a few hiccups, the stay overall was very good. The servers at the Zilara pool stand out, especially Tameeka and Toni-Ann. Always there with a smile and a strong drink. I think we drank them out of Titos a few days. lol We also had a beach romantic dinner. Darrell was amazing and made the night special for us. Overall we would probably return, but definitely request a swim up that gets sun next time.

We had a gorgeous room, on the 4th floor with a spectacular view. It had a covered balcony with a double lounge bed that we sat on many nights after dinner. We could hear the cello and violin being played from the lobby. The cello was particularly beautiful and created such a romantic atmosphere. We enjoyed all of our meals at the a la carte restaurants , but DiRoza Italian restaurant had exceptional food and such personal service. Alex the manager treated us like family and welcomed us happily even when we had the wrong date for our reservation! We went back a second time and found both Shandela and Kevin to be the best servers. We loved our time at the Spa for a couples massage. We earned the massage by taking a breakfast tour of the facility with Terri. Our tour was recommended by the perky Donnelle and her coworker at the Playa desk, to see if the Hyatt membership club was for us. Nadine ( server) and Donjae ( bartender) gave the best service at the pool AND at the beach. They went above and beyond to set us up with some great Jamaican drinks each day. We recommend the Iceberg and the Caparhina.
There were 2 downsides for us. One, we were not able to take long walks down the beach, as it was a secure property (which WAS appreciated for safety.)
One of the pool entertainment staff was not great. He had an obsession with really angry sounding rap that only a select group of college kids seemed to enjoy and he seemed to enjoy dancing with them. But when Shakira from the entertainment crew was around, the fun was happening! For St. Patrick’s day there was even a parade!
Thank you Hyatt and Montego Bay Jamaica for a wonderful holiday!
Avoid the 2 weeks of March Break if you are bothered by young college kids. There were hundreds of them. But they were polite, it just made it seem crowded as they travel in large packs!
