My wife and I just spent 7 days at Hotel La Palapa.
It was our 4th visit to Holbox. Our age is a factor in evaluating La Palapa. This is not a place for senior citizens.
It is located on the beach, but when the tide is in there is no real beach and when the tide is out there is no deach, but there is water. We spent our days at our old hotels which mass a have a very beautiful beacch an a nice restaurant with great service.
The rooms are not attractive like they appear on the website. It needs a facelift.
There are beautiful beach in Holbox.
The irregular stares are unsafe without had rails in many cases. There Is not a comfortable chair on the premises. The breakfast included is not very appectsind. We only ate there 3 times during our 7 mornings there. The bathroom sink does not run hot water. The lighting in the rooms is poor, there are stingy with towels.
The staff is accommodating. They are not the problem.
It was our 4th visit to Holbox. Out regular hotel was booked and La Palapa looked like a good choice. There are several beautiful long beaches on Holbox. And many nice hotels. Hotel Palapa is not not one of them.

We absolutely loved staying at La Palapa! Our favorite amenity was how close the hotel is to the ocean. We opened the windows of our third floor room and could hear the soothing sound of the waves. Having the restaurant and bar right on the property was very convenient. The breakfast that was included was amazing with a wide variety of selections to choose from. The guacamole and hand made chips were a delicious afternoon snack and the margaritas were irresistible. The staff is very kind and accommodating. The bed was super comfortable and the pillows were luxurious. We appreciated the semi-private location secluded from the long stretch of beach. It felt like our own private escape while steps away from the hustle and bustle of the beach and the town.

Overall, not worth the money.

Room was a good size but dated, shower wasn't working properly and poor lighting. Photos on booking.com was yntrie representation.
We stayed in a standard king room, sea facing Shower didn't work well - inadequate water. Sink had a hole in it and had food residue & wasn't cleaned upon check.in.
Not worth the £180 a night, we should hv moved hotels, but was on a non refundable policy, so persevered.

This little hotel is wonderful, right on its own little beach. The staff is friendly, the service is excellent. Best of all, no kids as it's an adult hotel. It has a small bar overlooking the beach, the drinks are good, good prices and as a bonus, great food. The location is great, just off the main street where there are plenty of restaurants. We will definitely return. Be aware, with October still being hurricane season, the gulf can be quite active. They get lots of beach grass onto the beach. As we walked the beach, we found that this hotel quickly cleans up the beach grass each morning as the tide goes out. It was one of the cleanest beaches of all the beach front hotels. Another "island occurrence", they lose water every now and then, due to the storms. This hotel kept us informed via WhatApp, letting us know when water was available. The whole island experiences this. All in all, great experience, the inconvenience was not too bad, the peacefulness and beauty of the island makes it all worth while.

We were excited to spend our honeymoon at Hotel La Palapas, drawn in by the beautiful pictures online and the promise of a tranquil beachfront experience. Unfortunately, our stay was far from what we had hoped for, and we wanted to share our experience to help future guests make an informed decision.
Our main issue was discovering bed bugs in our room on the first night. My husband got bitten by them and we had a lot of blood stains on the mattress. We immediately informed the staff, who were very polite and moved us to another room. Unfortunately, the second room also had bed bugs. After expressing our concerns again, we were moved to a third room. While we didn’t encounter bed bugs there, we found that the sheets were not clean, and even the replacements were also dirty.
Given the circumstances, we decided to leave the hotel early. We were hoping to speak with the manager about a partial refund, as we felt this would be fair given the issues we faced. However, the manager did not engage with us directly, and for the remaining days we were on Holbox, our calls were avoided. Instead, the staff, who were clearly uncomfortable, had to handle the situation on his behalf. It was disappointing to see such a lack of accountability from the management.
The staff themselves were friendly and tried to assist, but the overall experience left us feeling frustrated and let down. The hotel could be wonderful with better leadership and attention to cleanliness, but as it stands, we would hesitate to recommend it to others.

My fourth time returning to this beautiful island and why not to the hotel that always greets me with arms wide open?
LaPalapa never disappoints, great staff, clean, comfortable rooms, beautiful beach, excellent location . Although ,this time ,there is just one complaint I have , and it’s not even regarding the hotel or hotel staff. But back to that in a minute.
With LaPalapa you can’t go wrong at all. It’s very close to everything, shops , restaurants, the Main Street of Holbox is just a block away. You can practically walk to the Ferry dock in 10 minutes.
The rooms are spacious , well maintained and now with a new addition of a mini refrigerator in the room is a major plus (management does take in requests from posted reviews!) They also installed new shower head, which before was just a seashell, it was a very nice touch, but it just sprayed water everywhere when it hit your head. Great upgrade.
Now, to my only complaint on this trip: the morning breakfast server. I don’t know if the restaurant is completely connected with the Hotel, but the morning server that I had looks like he didn’t want to be there. I don’t even know his name, all other trips that I’ve been here, a server would smile and introduce him or herself to us., -this guy could care less.- The restaurant opens at 7:30am and on the second day, the breakfast took over 35 minutes to be served, I understand, maybe the kitchen wasn’t ready yet. There was also fresh juice included with the breakfast and we had to constantly remind the server , because he would forget, or not bring it at all to us at times. It just seemed that he wasn’t in the mood to be working there at all.
Anyways , other than that minor issue , every else was spot on. The rooms were always cleaned and smelled incredibly nice. Everyone on the hotel grounds were very friendly.
There’s a brand new addition to the hotel , which is the upper floor where the rooftop balcony used to be. They built an amazing Master Suite, I didn’t ask for prices , but it does look expensive. And it looks out of this world. Maybe one day I’ll have the chance to stay there for a night!
Book here, you won’t regret it. I highly recommend to anyone coming to the island!

Perfect location, nice room and friendly staff
Best hotel in Holbox? Located on the beach yet close to the village centre. Our room was medium size with nice balcony and sea view. Breakfast was included and excellent served in a nice small restaurant right on the beach. All staff extremely helpful and friendly.

Our third trip to Holbox, and third time staying at Hotel La Palapa. This is a wonderful, small boutique hotel. While the rooms are no frills, they are more than comfortable and kept immaculately clean. The same can be said about the grounds and exclusive beach area. The reception team is very helpful with suggestions or directions and we especially LOVE Isis. La Palapa also boasts a gem of a beach bar with excellent craft cocktails, and the restaurant’s breakfast choices are all very good. You are just a minute or two from the majority of the islands shopping and dining. We will always stay here when visiting Holbox.

The location is perfect, the beds were super comfortable, the breakfast was amazing (I recommend the avocado toast) and all the staff was super friendly and helpful.
It was nice and quiet at night but still close to all the bars and restaurants, and no seaweed on the beach at this location!
We are definitely only staying here whenever we come to Holbox :)

Wonderful Week at Hotel La Palapa
The beachfront hotel was located very convenient to the vibrant beach scene and the active restaurant/market neighborhood. Everything we needed was within walking distance. The staff was friendly and helpful. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep each night.
A really comfortable stay (if you’re a deep sleeper) with an excellent location

We spent 4 nights at the Beachfront Hotel La Palapa and initially booked it because of the generally positive reviews on TA and its proximity to the beach.
This was our first time on Holbox and we enjoyed our time on the island immensely - I’ve posted our trip report elsewhere in the forums - but would stay elsewhere on the island if we returned, although due to no fault of the hotel itself.
It was INCREDIBLY noisy at night, each night, well into the early mornings. A tiny dog barked incessantly. The crashing of the waves was drowned out by competing music at surrounding clubs and restaurants. Proximity to town was helpful except at night. The level and veracity of the noise profoundly detracted from what would have been an otherwise, and overall, very pleasant stay.
Also of note, the hotel was finishing a construction project at the time of our stay which was not disclosed in any of the welcome emails or messages ahead of our visit and was only acknowledged at time of check in. While not continuous/ongoing for the entirety of our stay, it was also not exactly tranquil and we would have appreciated a heads up before our arrival.
Now that we’ve addressed the bad, let’s hit the good, and there’s plenty.
While sargassum is a problem for the island at large, the hotel did a great job of keeping their beachfront clean and were up early, raking and tidying the sand.
Our room was simply appointed but the balcony was lovely and we napped frequently in the hammock. Wifi was spotty and erratic but also, we’re on an island so that wasn’t bothersome. Shower water pressure and temperature was perfect - our toilet needed attention twice due to difficulty flushing but they took care of it immediately both times.
Many reviews note the staff as the reason they return and we found the front desk very helpful and accommodating whenever we reached out; the restaurant staff couldn’t keep our room number (or us?) straight and asked for it each time we came down for breakfast or cocktails but service was pleasant and everyone very kind. We enjoyed our view of the ocean each morning from our breakfast table and took advantage of happy hour in the recliners on the tiny beach itself.
We had brilliant weather and watched sunsets from the hotel’s beachfront and also from piers in either direction several yards away.
The proximity to town allowed us to walk easily everywhere and the only time we took a taxi was to/from the ferry - we took advantage of the shuttle service to and from Cancun airport and were very glad we did. It was easy to meet our driver, we were directed to the ferry without issue and our ATV taxi on the island was ready and waiting in both directions. This was incredibly helpful.
That same proximity to town, as also noted above, was the reason both of us left to come back home somewhat exhausted from poor sleep at night. If you’re a deep sleeper and unbothered by such things, I think this is a wonderful home base for exploring the island. There’s a lot to love here.

I really like this hotel. When I first arrived it seemed so close to town that I thought it was going to be really loud but it was totally fine! The staff was all great and the food was good. It was easy to walk everywhere! One thing though was that the beach at La Palapa is really small and the sun doesn't hit till a bit later in the morning. We like morning sun so we ended up using covered beach chairs from another hotel and just had to order food and drinks in exchange for that. It worked out perfectly. Then it was always fun to head back to our little hideaway.
