Came for our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect. Stayed in the room on the waterfront and it was magical waking up every morning looking out at the lagoon. Massages were some of the best we had ever had and were reasonably priced. Food was good and fresh. The temple on the property is such a special place, clearly built with love. Was easy to get a taxi from the hotel to go to Los Rapidos, El Centro or anywhere else needed. 10/10 recommend.

I have been waiting to stay here since I saw this resort the first time on the lagoon in 2021. I stayed at the over water cabana which offered beautiful lagoon view, unit 6 and 7 are newer units with glass patio doors. The cabanas are eco friendly therefore no AC but they provided 3 fans, the room is not completely sealed so some openings are covered with mesh to prevent bugs. Their temple is beautiful and they offer daily yoga or meditation. We also paid extra for the lagoon boat ride and met the captain yan who was so nice and knowledgeable. This is a place to connect to the nature so fish, birds, bugs and frogs might come out sometimes.

Better be invited by the family… otherwise
Worst Service Ever. The place is amazing, but it seems to have seen better days.. may be 10-15 yrs ago.. It appears to be that it’s a family owned week-end gettaway, so if you run into some of them, you’re forgotten by the staff.. Sorry to have chosen this hotel..

It’s the best place at Bacalar. Excellent location with beautiful views, lovely attention and service particularly David (waiter) and Arath (tourist guide). Is a peaceful place to connect with nature, rest and eat delicious. 100% recommended ♥️

Hotel is nice, rooms are comfortable and air conditioning is recommended as temperatures can get too high (lagoon villas don’t have A/C) Being right in the lagoon is the best. Reception staff are kind but need more training. Food is “okay” but don’t expect anything special. As the name stands, it is a “Holistic Center”, they offer esoteric services, even if that’s not your goal or interest it is an essential part of the experience the hotel offers.

Everything was great. We went for my wife’s birthday and they provided birthday flowers a cute birthday cake. Very cute intimate place of stay. Everyday we went swimming in the beautiful blue waters, enjoyed the hammocks throughout the grounds, and took advantage of the free kayaks. Even though they only had one restaurant the food was delicious and service was amazing. Dana was the best, she was attentive, sweet, and accommodating. The temple visit was amazing which is only a short walk from the rooms. Overall the staff was accommodating and attentive.
One thing to call out which is noted in the room details is there is no AC in the water front rooms which makes it impossible to get a good nights rest since it can get pretty hot in May. The bed does have a standing fan but still can get very uncomfortable at night time when sleeping.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Akalki. We had a Mangrove room which was nice and cool and beautifully decorated with its integration into the surrounding nature. The room was nice and spacious and equipped with everything you would need including yoga mats and an umbrella. I did the yoga class one morning and it was great! The instructor was lovely, speaking in both English and Spanish and helping us all.
The staff at Akalki were very welcoming and would say hola when they walked by. We especially appreciated Araths hospitality. He took us on a tour of the nearby temple and cleverly used google translate to talk us through parts he was unsure how to translate. He also showed us a great shady spot to swim and was also the one to bring us our luggage and car when we checked out, turning the AC on so that it was nice and cool for us when we jumped in.
I also had a treatment done at the spa by Roni which was rejuvenating and accommodated at last minute.
Akalki use WhatsApp as a channel to communicate with the front desk at any time - this made it easy to schedule tours and treatments.
The restaurant on-site provided breakfast (toast, banana bread, fruit with yoghurt and granola and juice/coffee). They were yum! They also had great lunch and dinner options though note the menu is predominantly pescatarian and steak.
And of course the lagoon itself is absolutely beautiful!

My husband and I came to Bacalar in March 2024 and decided to spend a full week at Akalki - we are SO glad we did! This gem of a place is perfection and we can't wait to come back!
The entire property is beautiful - the plants, the landscaping, the art, the lagoon. The temple is NOT to be missed. Ask the front desk to take you on a tour!! We stayed in a Lagoon Villa where our screen doors opened right on to the water. The shower also has a view into the lagoon! If you can splurge on this, do it!
The people we met at Akalki were just as beautiful as the setting. A huge thanks to Paola, Luis, Miguel, Marta, Francis, El Flaco and Arturo for sharing their kindness with us! We felt like guests at a friend's home at Akalki.
Do try to book treatments at the healing center and do the daily activities (breathwork, yoga, etc.). They are all phenomenal.
We were happy we rented a car so we could explore Bacalar town and Xul-Ha. We did spend several days happily lounging at Akalki so it was a great mix.
Quick PSA to any future guests: the lagoon is sensitive! Bring some UPF clothing as ANY sunscreen (even reef safe) is bad for the lagoon's ecosystem and water clarity / color. We went in the water early in the morning and later in the afternoon and managed not get burned sans sunscreen.

We came here for our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect! So peaceful and magical! The staff is wonderful, so thoughtful and kind! We will miss Jonser, Dana, and all of the Akalki staff - we wish we could thank everyone by name! We especially enjoyed the trip on the boat with Captain Jan! The food was refreshing, fresh juices, fun cocktails, and simple but delicious dishes made with fresh, whole ingredients! The espresso drinks to order at the restaurant and hot tea brought to the cabana each morning were especially nice to wake up to! Bacalar was a short distance away by car or taxi, and we enjoyed the many great restaurants, evening music and shopping around the central square, especially the many artisans in the pop-up night market at the park! As marine scientists, we especially appreciated the harmonious relationship between Akalki and its environment, a much gentler footprint than a boutique hotel. We got to observe so much wildlife as we wandered the grounds, including a tiny crocodile and so many bird species! We especially enjoyed being able to observe the diverse fish species from the deck at the restaurant or our private deck over the water. Stepping out of the room and into the lagoon just after sunrise is something we will never forget!

This is the most peaceful, relaxing place I've ever experienced. The lagoon water is magical. I just wanted to sit in it all the time. The staff is amazing. There are so many interesting, one of a kind structures on the property. You MUST see the temple! It's breathtaking. I participated in a Temazcal ceremony. I actually had no intention of doing it, but was talked into it. I am not exaggerating when I say it was life changing! It took us 2 days to get there from where we live because there aren't near as many flight choices as there used to be, but IT WAS WORTH IT.

The bungalows with your own lagoon are absolutely beautiful It would’ve been nicer if this place was only for adults And for the price you pay it would be nice to get included a better breakfast, more than just a glass of juice or fruit with a basket of bread.
