I'm a sucker for a cringey couple. There's just something so self-affirming about watching fumbled proposals, inappropriate first kisses, awkward drunken toasts, cringey themes, and tripping bridemaids. Maybe it's the realization that everything that went wrong at my own wedding actually wasn't so bad. Maybe I'm insecure, and other people being cringey makes me feel better about myself. Or maybe I'm just some kind of sicko. But with the popularity of cringe videos on YouTube and elsewhere, at least I know I'm not alone.
With that, here are ten of my favorite, most cringe-worthy, cringetastic, cringiest wedding and proposal videos on YouTube:
Poor Photographer Just Trying to Do His Job
What does everyone think about this? It seems like the bride and groom hired the wedding photographer to get good footage of their big day, and the priest was going rogue and kicking them out. I mean, it's not like they were shoving cameras into people's faces. Did the priest have a point, that they were getting in the way of the sanctity of the event? Or was he just being sanctimonious?
Running from Commitment (we give the lady credit for being the one to propose though!)
Most videos in this compilation consist of people running away from extremely public proposals. Guys and gals, romantic as it seems in your head, don't propose in front of a massive crowd at a ball game, on a TV show, or at a mall. It's too much pressure, it makes your other half feel self-conscious, and it will be doubly humiliating for you if they say no. Oh, and don't propose at someone else's wedding, either. You're stealing their thunder on a day that is supposed to be 100% about them.
Epic Bridal Bodyslam (In his defense, he thought it was a WWE-themed wedding)
Gents, the romantic gesture of picking up and carrying your bride is most definitely a classic. But for the love of God, keep your balance and watch where you're going. If you don't you might end up body-slamming your own bride into a wall like Macho Man Randy Savage.
To Each Their Own, to Each Their Own
From Pokemon and anime to Star Wars and Star Trek, superfans of a movie or series take it to an extreme sometimes. This Pokemon-themed wedding is no exception.
She Was Strong, But He Was Heavy
We know you're strong. You squat, you bench, you lift things up and put them down. But listen, dudes are really heavy, so running to the altar with a full-grown man on your back is a sport you might want to avoid during your best friend's wedding ceremony.
I Now Pronounce You Clown & Juggalette. You May Spray the Faygo
In case you aren't familiar, Insane Clown Posse, also known as ICP, is a band with a very devoted fanbase. They call themselves "Juggalos," and they live and breathe the Insane Clown Posse lifestyle. What does that lifestyle involve, you ask? Aside from listening to ICP, it appears to involve painting your face in ICP makeup, drenching yourself in off-brand soda, and hollering "woot woooot" as frequently as possible. Hey, as long as they're not hurting anyone else, who am I to judge?
Five Minutes & Forty Seconds of Non-Stop Fail
This wedding DJ as as bad as they get. I actually had to do some extra research just to be sure this wasn't an elaborate joke. Posted as a warning against trying to save money with a cheap DJ, this video shows how utterly disastrous your reception will be if you let an amateur run the festivities. And it's basically five minutes of awkward waiting for this outrageously incompetent DJ to figure out how to use their equipment.
The Dangers of Proposing Near Mother Nature
It seemed like a great idea: a proposal at sea, the waves lapping over the gray rocks behind you as the sun sets over the clouds. The wind in your hair, the salty sea air, and all the romantic allure of the coast. But when you propose so close to Mother Nature, you have to be ready for her to express herself in any way she pleases. Unfortunately, that sometimes means being "swept off your feet" in all the wrong ways, taken out by a monster wave. From the video it looks like he let his bride get sucked into the drink, focusing instead on making sure he wouldn't drop the engagement ring!
Not Off to the Most Graceful Start
This groom wanted to get some nice wedding pics of himself up in a beautiful tree. I hope the shots were good, because as he'd learn the hard way, getting up is a lot easier than getting down. We do give him credit, though, as he really goes for the jump here!
The Worst Wedding Kiss Ever
Okay, this is just gross, and has to be the cringiest video on this list. I guess it's cute that this guy waited until marriage to ever kiss somebody (kinda?), but maybe he should have watched some instructional videos or something first? Meanwhile, the guy's new bride goes to town on him as if they've already arrived at their honeymoon suite. All we know is, this is the most insanely awkward wedding kiss ever. I'm just glad I wasn't at this wedding.
