Wonderful stay at the Royal Lahaina! We have vacationed here many times, and we love it more and more each time! The setting is paradise and the staff are exceptional. Ford goes above and beyond to provide Aloha to us and everyone. Marc and Mike at the beach bar and Rosey in the restaurant are friendly and kind. Chiko provides grace and beautiful flowers while greeting guests. New this year was nightly music at the Branches, which was delightful. Especially enjoyed the music of Anthony Pfluke.
We certainly applaud this resort for quickly providing a home for displaced Lahaina residents.
We are already planning to return.

What a lovely experience, from the start. Check in was a breeze, friendly, informative and so very helpful. We stayed in an amazing Jr. Bungalow Suite with ocean views. Although the suite was equipped with air conditioning, we were fortunate to time our visit, so the weather allowed open windows and cool ocean breezes to flow through, with the bonus of being lulled to sleep every evening by the sound of the waves rolling onto the beach. The beach was perfect, expansive and steps away from our bungalow! Those days when we just wanted to relax in one of the many lounge chairs without the sand, the perfectly manicured lawn that led to the beach and the pool was a wonderful option. Lounge chairs were provided in abundance and we never had to fight for a place to relax. We spent 6 nights at this resort, which is always enough time to discover the flaws, but we found none! The food and beverage service provided by the two restaurants was top notch enhancing the experience. Would definitely recommend to all our family and friends. We look forward to our next visit, yes, we will be back!

Disappointed from the Start
We had high hopes for the Royal Lahaina Resort, expecting a true 4-star experience, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that we weren’t the only ones unhappy—several guests were already in line to complain as we checked in, which was an immediate red flag.
Rooms: Musty, Moldy, and Filthy
Our first room had a strong musty and moldy odor, making it unbearable to stay in. When we called the front desk, the employee admitted that things hadn’t been remodeled in a long time—not exactly the response we were hoping for. We were allowed to check out another room, which, while not smelling as bad, was filthy (see photos) The two pics with dust on my hands are from the headboard and shelving.. It’s shocking that a resort with this reputation doesn’t maintain cleaner accommodations.
It was also clear that the owners are not investing in repairs, maintenance, or updates. Everything felt outdated and neglected, and for a so-called 4-star resort, that’s unacceptable. See photos of dented, dinged and damaged surfaces.
Staff: Helpful, but It Only Goes So Far
To their credit, the staff was friendly and helpful, but there’s only so much they could do when the hotel itself is in such poor condition.
Amenities: Average at Best
Pool: Just okay—nothing special, but at least it was clean.
Restaurant: We didn’t even bother trying it because, based on the lack of cleanliness in the rooms, we weren’t about to take our chances with the food.
Location: Not Ideal
While the resort is on the beach, it’s not close enough to Whalers Village to easily walk. If you’re looking for easy access to shopping and dining, this isn’t the best location.
Final Verdict: Would NOT Stay Again
For a place that claims to be a 4-star resort, this was a huge letdown. The outdated rooms, lack of cleanliness, and general state of the resort make it not worth the price. It’s clear that the owners are not reinvesting in the property, and it shows in every aspect of the experience. There are far better options in Maui that actually deliver on their promises of luxury and comfort. Save your money and stay elsewhere!

We stayed at the Royal Lahaina from Feb 25th - Feb 28th. Unfortunately the location was fabulous, but next time we will definitely choose a different resort. Let me start with the positives: Maui was just a gem and the location of the resort was perfect. The whale watching from the property was a treat. The room presented well, the bed, sheets and pillows all comfortable. Nightly music was a bonus and had a great vibe.
However the hotel did not deliver on service, which is why we will choose a different hotel in the same area next visit to Maui.
Upon arrival on the night of the 25th, we went down to the restaurant and were told that they could not accommodate us, as they were "overcommitted" for the night. I returned to the room and dialed room service, and was told they would not do room service, I would have to go back to the restaurant, order, and wait for my food to take it to go. Needless to say, we went elsewhere for dinner that night.
We were told on arrival that our room would be cleaned and serviced every other day. We arrived on Tuesday. Thursday we were out of our room from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm. Housekeeping did not clean or service our room.
I called for a late check out (just wanting an extra hour or two). The front desk stated they could not give us a late check out (although other people in our party got one).
Again, the location is amazing, but I would rather spend my money at another resort with much better service.

I was very disappointed in the Royal Lahaina. We stayed in one of the bungalows. The room was uncomfortable; there was no place to sit down at all, only the bed. The furniture on the patio was old, faded and lumpy. I specifically asked for a change of sheets and fresh towels on the day this was supposed to happen (cleaning is not done every day). After returning from a long day, this hadn’t happened. When my husband went to the front desk, the staff person was not kind or “service-oriented.” Later, the manager of housekeeping himself came to do the work. He was so nice and solicitous. We learned that they have trouble getting help.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, as are the pools and beach. I thought $75 for a beach umbrella was a bit high (after the $40 resort fee and $40 parking per day.) The Myths of Maui luau was very fun. We thoroughly enjoyed that.

Just returned from 6 nights at the Royal Lahaina. Unfortunately I don’t think we will return. There are just better properties out there for similar price.
Room: We stayed in the tower in a ocean view room and the view was amazing. The room felt clean, bed was comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was great. That’s where it ends though. The rooms are in desperate need of an update. The bathrooms are where you can see the age and wear. The lighting in the sink area is absolutely TERRIBLE. The sink is also small and set far back in the counter so I got water everywhere anytime I washed my face. The shower is small and also lacks lighting. Small closet, with wall hooks that were rusted. The WiFi was also terrible.
Beach: Located north along Ka’anapali and the beach is beautiful - soft sand, calm waters and not crowded. It’s $75 to rent and umbrella and chairs for the day. They also have yeti coolers which we utilized. The staff that sets up chairs seems stressed and annoyed whenever another guest asks for chairs. They should probably figure out a better reservation system. One day we returned from an excursion around 1:30pm and wanted to sit on the beach for 2-3 hours and they told us chairs would be half price after 2pm. We went back after 2pm and they still tried to charge us full price until we reminded them what they told us 30 min earlier.
Pool: The pool area is super cute but we didn’t sit by it… there were never any open chairs. Definitely needs more chairs and umbrellas. Also the pool staff never resets the chairs at night. It’s a hot mess of chairs everyday. They also need to clean out the sand from the showers that people use coming off the beach… they were just piled with sand which doesn’t help to get the sand off your feet.
Restaurant: We had dinner after arrival in Lahaina Noon and it was delicious. Service was just ok. There was a guitarist playing that was wonderful. We also had breakfast there our first morning, ordered from the a la carte menu. It was delicious but EXPENSIVE for breakfast so we didn’t return.
Coffee/Ice Cream/Retail Shop: The coffee was good but there was always only one person working and a long line. The ice cream selection was minimal until the last day we were there and it was clear they restocked it. The retail shop in the lobby had an inadequate selection of products. Super disappointing.
Luau: We booked VIP tickets to the luau because we wanted a table in front. We arrived and found the tables were long and seated like 16 people; our group of 4 was seated at the end of our table, furthest from the stage. I paid extra to be seated up front and I feel “VIP” was grossly misrepresented. I don’t think there was anything VIP about it. The food was good but the drinks were very sugary and weak. The show was good but my husband wanted more of the “fire dancing.”
Additionally, the staff seemed indifferent and unwelcoming. Overall the property is just ok. I wouldn’t recommend this property or stay here again.

We just returned from an amazing trip to Maui, four of the nights being spent at the Royal Lahaina. We booked our trip through Costco and had a $50 daily credit as well as complimentary breakfast buffet daily. Beginning with a wonderful check-in experience with Stacey (we were there about an hour before check-in time and she was able to get us in a 12th floor room with a stunning partial ocean view) until check-out, every single employee we encountered was friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to help us. The room reminded me of a classic rustic resort with lots of wood trim and an incredibly comfortable bed with great pillows. The shower/toilet room was a bit small, but that didn't bother us. The separate sink area on the other hand was roomy, so two of us had no problem using it at the same time. We spent every early morning on the balcony, soaking in the sun coming up over the mountains, and the evenings setting over the ocean. The two pools had plenty of lounge chairs. It was so nice not to have to get down to the pool super early in order to get a chair. The beach (not overly crowded)was the best part! We rented an umbrella and chairs which was our favorite...we would go in and out of the crystal clear water all day long. Because of the time of year, we were treated to daily sightings of whales frolicking nearby (not scary nearby, but they were very easy to spot). Our only feedback is that the breakfast buffet was only ok. There was a decent variety of foods, but the eggs in particular were somewhat flavorless. On the other hand, there was banana bread one morning that was the best we had while we were in Maui. We had food and cocktails at the Pineapple Moon that was great, as were the bartenders! We can't wait to return! Mahalo!

From the moment we walked into the lobby we were treated like kings! Check in went smooth, our room was fantastic and the views of the ocean were superb. The breakfast buffet was very nice and kept us going until dinner. The 2 bars on site are nice and happy hour each day is welcome. Charging everything to our room is so easy and convenient, you would not need and cash or card on the property. We enjoyed the beautiful beach and walked up and down each day. The sounds of the ocean were welcome from our room each morning and evening. We saw many humpback whales while there, along with sea turtles and rare monk seals. What a treat... The free trolly to Whalers Village really opened up more dining options! The Luau on site was very worth the experience. All of the staff are so very nice and accommodating, we have already talked about going back next year!

This resort is perfect if you want a lovely stay but don’t want to spend an obscene amount of money. Booking through Costco, we got free breakfast buffet with every morning (a real one, not like a hotel’s ‘continental’), and $50 daily credit we could spend anywhere on the resort. The staff was very friendly and super helpful if you needed it. The only slight downside, if I had to be picky, was that the shower is kind of small in our room. But I am unsure if that is a problem in each room. We had a partial beach view and I’m honestly glad it was only partial. To the left we had a gorgeous view of the mountain and to the right the Pacific Ocean. The rest of the room was nice too.

Great stay at the Royal Lahaina
We had a great stay at Royal Lahaina. It was our first time visiting the Royal Lahaina and I would highly recommend it to anyone going to Ka’anapali. It’s moderatley priced and close to everything you need. The Ka’anapali trolley was super helpful too.
Highly recommended to all!
Excellent and highly recommended to all! Amazing staff, location, grounds. Perfect location. Beautiful! Will be back! Perfect experience from start to finish. From start to finish, everything was amazing. Had a room with partial ocean view and it was great.
