Stayed here many time. The renovations are complete and the Palace reborn. Beautiful hotel in a great location. The only negative is breakfast. Long queue to get in and underwhelming food. There is no attempt to keep the hot buffet hot. My scrambled eggs and bacon were cold served on cold plates. It was a poor experience from start to finish. Staff were under pressure to cope. Maybe they should have a separate line for hotel guests as many people seemed to be non residents. It’s all new so hopefully management will iron out the problems. Despite this, we will definitely be back.

We recently stayed at the Westin Palace Madrid for 8 nights for a holiday to celebrate the New Year and el Día de Reyes Magos. Our experience was wonderful from even before check-in until the moment we departed. The hotel arranged for us a private transfer from Madrid airport to the hotel, which I would highly recommend as an efficient means to reach the hotel after a long flight. The price was reasonable and we were able to charge it to the room. Having someone waiting for us right after baggage claim was a huge sigh of relief. As elite Bonvoy members, we were upgraded to a Palace Suite, which was large, newly renovated, comfortable, chic, and very well-appointed. Our room was not ready when we arrived (as we arrived early in the morning on a red eye from the US), and we were happily offered a hospitality room to rest and recharge as we waited for our suite to be ready. Some details of the room that we really appreciated were the Nespresso machine and the HDMI port in the bedroom that was connected to the television, allowing us to connect our tablet so we could stream our favorite shows, etc. The bathroom had a separate tub and shower and dual sinks, which was great for getting ready each day. The daily breakfast buffet was great--- too many options to sample everything even over the course of 8 days. Everything that we had was delicious, but best of all was the Tortilla Espanola that we had made-to-order on our last morning—simply divine. The food from room service was extremely fast (surprising to me!) and delicious. The Club Sandwich was our favorite. The hotel was completing the renovation of its public areas (transitioning from Westin to Luxury Collection) during our stay, which meant there was a temporary lobby opposite from the main entrance to the hotel. This really did not negatively impact our stay at all, other than the minor inconvenience of having to take 2 elevators to reach the guest room floors. The temporary lobby was quite impressive, and we were never aware of construction going on (e.g. no noise, dust, etc.). The staff members we interacted with were all professional, polite, well-groomed and effective in communicating whether we were speaking in Spanish or English (our family speaks both). The hotel’s location (almost on top of the Prado museum) was central to Gran Via, most of the main tourist sites, shopping districts, etc. We used Cabify and Uber frequently to travel to/from the hotel and had no issues; I should note there was also always taxis waiting outside available on-demand. Our only interaction with the concierge desk was to collect some Glovo deliveries and to borrow an umbrella on a rainy day—both interactions were pleasant and efficient. We had a minor issue on our bill (we were charged for parking even though we did not have a car) and this was immediately rectified. I really have nothing but wonderful things to say about this hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Madrid. We will definitely be back.

I was concerned about the ongoing construction before I arrived, but my concern started to melt away with the warm greeting I received on arrival. The staff here is amazing from start to finish. From the valet, the front desk to the restaurant, the staff is on par with the very best hotels in the world.
The rooms are gorgeous and remodeled. They ooze luxury and are full of small touches. We especially enjoyed the double sinks in the bathroom which is a little unusual in a large city European hotel.
The location is excellent. It is easily walkable to some of the best places in the city. Tons of restaurants, bars and shops nearby.
The construction means the lobby is closed and the restaurant is relocated, but aside from missing out on what I think is going to be an incredible lobby, we didn’t feel like we were missing out on anything. Everything has been conveniently relocated and it really works.
A top notch hotel!

Beautiful hotel that is under construction. Room was renovated but walk to it was pretty long so maybe avoid it until construction is completed. We stayed in Deluxe king size bed room, bed was comfortable and it was super clean. Room was renovated (#452). It was a bit awkward since there was not much space to open suit cases. Otherwise, service with luggage/taxi was excellent. Breakfast was excellent with variety of food that pretty puts this hotel on my list with best breakfast so far. Location was great as well. The only reason for 4 is the construction.

Stayed here in early December for the Christmas markets and light displays. I was aware they the property was under major renovation prior to booking. The temporary lobby is functional. Once the crystal dome is complete, check in will be a different and more luxurious experience. Attempted to upgrade using suite nights and was little disappointed as a lifetime Titanium that it could not be accommodated.
Nevertheless, the room we received was spacious, clean and newly refurbished. The decor is relaxing and blends old world with new. Especially liked the faux fireplace - how cool would it be to have an led screen that showed a "fire" screen saver. I appreciated the USB C outlets that mitigated the need for a converter. Bed and linens were great. We were on the 6th floor and be aware that the windows here are smaller than the other floors. No big deal, plenty of light and not many rooms at the property will have a breathtaking view due to surrounding buildings and topography. We "peeked" the top of Cibelle. Our commute to the room was not bad. Be aware that it may require two elevators due to construction re-routing.
Breakfast was great - many options. Plenty of fresh fruit. Getting coffee refills was a bit of a challenge. Wait staff was very quick to arrive at seating and subsequently very adept at avoiding eye contact. Here again, there is a clear effort to provide a nice space during renovation.
My one suggestion for improvement is the shower. Fixtures and pressure were good. Temp control on our unit seems to have been stripped and adjusting below scalding took some finesse. Not sure why the concept of a shower door is so challenging for European hotels. The shower was spacious, and so was the door opening with the result being a wet
bathroom floor after every shower. Can't conserve towels if you have to use them to mop the floor each morning.
Overall, would have given 4.5 if it was an option. They are clearly trying their best to mitigate the renovation disruption.

I was very impressed with our stay at the Westin Palace despite not experiencing the full refurbishment of the common areas which is due to be unveiled around April when the hotel reflags as its historic name, simply The Palace Hotel, under The Luxury Collection.
The rooms and suites are all done though and we were happily upgraded to the Neptuno Suite with its views of the Neptuno Fountain out the front which was both dry and covered in scaffolding and advertising hoards.
The staff were excellent and friendly throughout from reception to the breakfast to the bar.
Check in currently takes place in the function room entrance which isn’t so impressive and the lifts you have to use are a bit small and creaky. Breakfast is in a large circular function room with a balcony but a low ceiling with no natural light which makes a strange ambiance. But these are temporary issues pending the completion of the refurb in the actual main entrance and restaurant.
The Neptuno Suite was large and as comfortable as you would expect. The shower had a steam function that worked surprisingly well. We had coffee from the Nespreso machine in the morning. I particularly liked the Westin signature SleepWell balm that aids sleeping.
Breakfast was very good with a bonus of free-flow rosé Cava. Very attentive service bringing coffees and the omelet station was excellent.
So we join a long list of luminaries including Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Rita Hayworth, and Mata Hari at Madrid’s historic The Palace Hotel. It will be interesting to see the refurbished common areas when it reopens under The Luxury Collection brand.

The potential for a true 5 stars is certainly there, but not without some serious attention to the service-related attributes required to achieve this level. It seems as if the ongoing and (very) significant hotel renovation has affected the dedication of the staff to provide exceptional service and attention to detail.
Breakfast, for example, was organized chaos with offers to serve coffee never fulfilled because the staff was distracted with cleaning tables, placing new table settings, and everything in between. We ended up getting coffee ourselves (carafes were in the server areas), poaching fresh glasses and napkins from other tables, and basically fending for ourselves despite there being a significant number of staff on hand. Strongly recommend staff be dedicated to a specific task as opposed to the “free for all” that was seen over our three night stay.
Staff manning the reception area seemed more interested in congregating amongst themselves and made it clear how distracted they were when approached with a request or question. Most were young adults, perhaps lending to the need for more “grownups” in this department to offer mentoring on 5-star service requirements.
Housekeeping was a disaster! Cover and tea were never replenished, even after calling to request this. Even the coffee mugs were removed after our first night, leaving us to drink hot beverages in tall glasses. Towels were stained, the amenities were not replaced, and it became clear that margins are tight at this property and very basic housekeeping was all guests would get.
Recommend folks give this property some serious thought before making any decisions. Assuming all things remain as is, this hotel will be an unfortunate example of a beautifully renovated building (March/April 2025) managed and serviced by indifferent employees.

The Westin is currently under renovation and was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had. There was absolutely no mention of the renovation when I booked (otherwise I wouldn’t have booked!) nor any communication in the lead up to our stay. The experience is not worth it for the premium price.
Firstly, the front of house staff (reception, security and porters) were not as attentive or friendly as I would have expected of a Westin hotel. They looked annoyed to be there, and treated you as such. Besides one of the younger staff members, there were no friendly smiles or hellos to be had by the staff in the lobby area.
The lobby is a makeshift space in an old function area.
The reason I booked the Westin was for the beautiful La Rotonda, but this is also currently under renovation.
Breakfast is served in another function room with no windows or natural light.
To get to your room, you’ll have to navigate a confusing route via a couple of different lifts.
Finding your way to the gym is even more confusing.
To top it off, majority of the roads surrounding the hotel were under construction so getting a taxi to/from the Westin was not easy.
When I gave feedback on the disappointment of the renovation and the lack of transparency/communication about the ongoing renovation, the staff agreed and was also disappointed that there was no communication about the renovation. Looks like it might be a head office decision?
On the upside, the rooms are beautiful and the decorative details are very complimentary of the style. The location is great and close to everything you need. The cleaners were super friendly, and the staff on breakfast were great!

The public areas still have work to do, but it won't interfere with your stay. Lots of beautiful details everywhere you look. The front desk went above and beyond to find a room ready for 2 very early weary travelers. Thanks you so much. The breakfast buffet has everything you can imagine. We really hated to checkout. What an amazing stay.

This is normally my go-to hotel in Madrid, but all the nice features of this hotel are currently inaccessible due to renovation. It’s now a real faff to get to the rooms and temporary restaurant, with the original beautiful restaurant closed until Feb/March next year. Extremely annoying since I specifically booked this hotel to show my wife the breakfast restaurant. Of course, there was no mention of the ongoing renovation when booking via the Bonvoy app, and it still remains premium priced. Furthermore, for good measure, the surrounding roads and fountain are also under renovation. So while the service remains excellent, I’m sorry to say that I would not recommend staying here before Spring 2025.

We are lifelong SPG/Bonvoy loyalists, and initially had some really bad experiences with our room, and staff. We had reached out to the GM, and she was wonderful and thoughtful and took care of all our issues right away. The team works very hard at this location and respons quickly to messages. The location is unbeatable. We do wish we had known ahead of time, that there is massive renovations and that the lobby, breakfast, bar, and restaurant are all in what were conference rooms. That really has taken away from the experience of being at a European hotel as it feels like you are in a US suburban motel, vs a luxury hotel. However, the rooms are very nice.

This is an excellent luxurious hotel in Madrid. Being an elite Titanium member, we were provided a complimentary upgrade to a very nice suite.
The hotel staff were excellent, with an excellent quality buffet breakfast in a very beautiful dining room.
The hotel is located walking distance to the El Retiro Park, which is a beautiful park worth a visit, especially the Alfonso XII Monument.
It is also a few minutes walk to the Prado and Sofia museums, both are nice to visit. There is a nice water fountain outside the hotel, which was beautify lit up when we were there as part of the Oct 7 National Day celebration. The Cibeles Fountain and Palacio Cibeles are also walking distance.
There are many tapas bars near the hotel that were nice and historical (e.g. Los Gatos).
Gran Via shopping street is also a short walk from the hotel.
We enjoyed our stay at the Westin, and recommend it highly.

The design of the room was amazing, the colour and material combination is outstanding. I slept very well. The breakfast is the best, I ever had in a hotel. The quality of the food is excellent, the ham was cut freshly of the leg, the rose cava was very high quality, we spent every day 2,5 hours enjoying the food, the very attentive and friendly associates and the design of the restaurant. It has a huge glass dome above the bar and some tables. The restaurant recommendations from the concierge were very good. A brilliant short vacation and we will come again. I can only highly recommend to stay at this hotel.

Everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and happy. Excellent restaurant recommendations, turn down service, plush bath robes, soft huge towels are just some of the little perks. There’s a very reasonably priced laundromat that’s just about a 3 minute walk from the hotel - Lavandería Cervantes. They washed and folded our laundry and had it ready same day. Wow, what an experience! We were told that the hotel recently underwent a massive renovation, including the rooms, and boy does it show. We stayed in one of the Palace Rooms with a King Bed. Probably one of the largest hotel rooms we have ever stayed in throughout Europe and beautifully appointed. The property is clean and very well maintained throughout. During our stay, we received impeccable service -- from the doorman who greeted us upon arrival, the helpful front desk staff, to the restaurant staff in La Cúpula Restaurant. And that restaurant should not be missed -- excellent food and service and with an amazing wine list and very helpful sommeliers.
If you are going to Madrid, definitely stay at The Palace!

Fabulous stay last week for one night on a stopover. We arrived in the early evening on a Monday. The hotel has presence. Everyone is professional and very nice. I had booked a Palace room at the AAA rate and got almost $300 off. We received a complimentary upgrade as a Gold to the Neptuno. Although smaller (344 vs. 377 square feet), it had the better view. I inquired about an upgrade to a suite and was offered a one bedroom suite facing the courtyard for 600 Euros so passed. The hotel is in a fantastic location. We were able to walk around at night. Lots of restaurants nearby. We mentioned it was around our anniversary date and came back later at night to find refreshments with a handwritten note.
Renovations are done and it all looks spectacular. Lots of historic details with the new-hotel feel. Bed was comfortable and shower tiles are beautiful. Great toiletry products. Separate commode room. I was looking for a grand luxury hotel for my one night in Madrid and found it at the Palace. I just wish we had more than one night to spend here.
