Sadly, this hotel has gone down hill. They only service rooms every other day. Also there is no longer a concierge. In the past the concierge at this hotel was fantastic. No more. Combine that with the fact that the staff at the front desk is not helpful except for checking in and out. They seem to know very little about the area. Also, the front desk staff had very poor English skills so communication was difficult. We will be staying elsewhere on our next visit.

Our first time in Kyoto and this location was perfect. Super close to many subway lines, shops and so many great restaurants. Our room was like a suite and spacious. Room coffee needs improvement as it's very watery but other than that the beds are super comfortable, shower and tub amazing and they clean your room every other day unless you ask which was perfect for us. I liked that our windows over looked the main street and we could watch early morning activities of city people while getting ready to get out.

This was a lovely modern hotel. Initially we were disappointed with our room as it was very small and not really suitable for two people as there was very little wardrobe space or luggage storage. I brought this to reception’s attention and we were offered a different room which was more suitable for a couple.
Breakfast was delicious however the hotel seemed busy some mornings and it was necessary to provide your name and return to your bedroom to await a table.
All the staff were very helpful. The hotel was in a great location for exploring Kyoto and it was an easy walk to a variety of restaurants, station and shops. The onsen was lovely and relaxing to visit

The riverside location of the hotel is ideal. It’s close to many of the tourist sites of Kyoto and also super handy for transport, yet it is quiet.
We had a basement garden view room. While it was slightly darker it had a lot of Japanese atmosphere. The bathroom was large and very clean, with a view of the outdoor garden. The bed was comfortable that we had no issue sleeping despite the time difference after long journey.
Breakfast was served in the main restaurant. A good choices of Japanese/Western options were available plus a live egg cooking station. There is a male/female onsen on the basement, few washing machines (one for male and two for female, which I found odd).
Service was very consistent and friendly. Would come back to this nice hotel again.

This aside, the staff goes above and beyond. I got very sick and needed a doctor. They made an appointment for me, called a cab, wrote out the information for me to show the driver. When we got there an hour early, I showed the lady the paper and they took me in immediately. The next morning, they called a cab and our next hotel telling them I was sick and coming early. We got a very early check in.
Not everyone spoke perfect English, but these folks were exceptional.
As far as Expedia goes

Could be better - as it seems with every hotel in Japan, they seem to love uncomfortable pillows. I don’t get it, but it must be the thing! If you prefer not resting your head on a bag of solid pick n mix, bring your own pillow!

Claustrophobic room with no natural light in a great location

Our room had one window but it was not possible to open and it was frosted to the extent you could not see outside and almost no light could get in. Good for privacy but a real issue if you have any claustrophobia at all.

Beautiful is not a term I would normally use when reviewing hotels. However it is an appropriate term for this hotel. It is of course spotlessly clean like all Japanese hotels of quality. By Japanese standards our room was spacious and well appointed. What struck me was the interior decoration. Beautiful woodland glade in reception, beautiful colour scheme throughout and very friendly polite staff. It is a smaller hotel of high quality in a superb location only a matter of meters from Potoncho and Gion. So convenient and easy to access the best that beautiful Kyoto has to offer. We stayed for a week and had a grand time. This hotel also has an Onsen (Japanese bath house) in the basement. Great value for money, quiet, comfortable, great staff and the perfect location this hotel ticks all the boxes.

My wife and I LOVED Solaria. First and foremost, because of the exceptional service we received there. In Japan, you will get good service but even in Japan, Solaria is exceptional. We were particularly impressed with Kaoru Sakiyama at the reception who went out of her way to take care of us. The hotel is really beautiful and esthetically pleasing. The rooms are nice and comfortable. The onsen is divine. Public transport is very close by.

As far as Japanese brand hotels, this is one of the best I've stay at. The room is decently sized (not a closet like some other ones I've been) and has great look and feel to it + a separated by gender public bath in the basement. The staff were very welcoming and we appreciate the green initiative that allowed people to get the amenities you need from the lobby to cut down on plastic waste.
It is also conveniently located for people that like to walk as it's just a few minutes from Gion, and a great central place to take a taxi to explore Kyoto or to Kyoto station to explore the Kansai region and beyond.
I would love to stay here again in the future. Five stars.

Good hotel at a nice location
Good hotel close to the subway, river area and shopping/dining areas. The room was not so large, but with a good bed and a great shower. Very good breakfast buffet with a lot of choice. Supportive and friendly staff. Nice place to discover Kyoto

I had a good stay in this hotel. There is a train station nearby & need a bit of walking maybe about 5-7 mins walk. There are a lot of restaurants & pubs near the hotel. I also walked to the shopping areas which are not very far. There is a public hot bath area in the hotel where they separate men & women. So both sexes have to remove their clothes to soak in the hot bath. It was relaxing & they provided all the amenities to clean up before returning to my room. I was fortunate to have a room right next to the hot bath at the basement with garden view. So I no need to walk to far. They also provide robes to wear the hot bath.
The room is a bit small but still cozy. The toilet & the bathroom are separated. I find it interesting for the toilet as they provide a basin to wash the hands. If they put the hand soap there will be more ideal.
They provide 3 different types of pillows in the room from soft, medium to contour type so you can choose the one you are comfortable to sleep on.
They provide sleeping wears in the room so I no need to change to mine. Excellent.
Housekeeping is good & clean but need to leave the room before 12 noon as their housekeeping hours are not whole day & only up to 12 noon. They will do the housekeeping alternate days but you can request daily housekeeping by pressing the housekeeping button in the room.
The breakfast is good as I like the Japanese style but maybe not to the liking for the Europeans or Americans.
There is a car park but it is chargeable on per day rate. As we rented a car so we had to park inside the hotel. It is fully automated so we no need to find our own car park lot.
Overall, the customer service is good & we had a good stay at this hotel.
