This is great hotel that is funky and original in very good way. The staff are exceptionally friendly and we're very helpful. The rooms were wonderful. There is a full bath and shower and private toilet The beds are comfortable and there is an old time record player in the room with LPs. The room even has its own doorbell. There are 3 restaurants - all have a nice sel3ction of food Close ro kyoto station and the Shinkansen. Overall, one of my favorite hotels of the thousands I have stayed in all over the world

Spent 4 nights at the Ace Hotel over the New Year and we had such a great time there. We visited many different Ace properties and the Kyoto one is by far the most impressive: great location, amazing design (an old building completely renovated) and being located inside the small ShinPuhKan mall there’s also an interesting choice of shops and dining options at your doorstep. Our standard king room was on the small side but clean and well appointed, we didn't intend to spend too much time in the room anyway (loved the huge shower, great water pressure). Different restaurants on site with different cousines: from Italian to Mexican to Japanese, there’s something for everyone. And also don’t forget to visit Stumptown for some great coffee. We were on B&B plan and for breakfast they offered different delicious sets. Also the subway station is right under the hotel! Not a cheap stay, but nothing is in this beautiful city with an insane amount of tourists. I would definitely go back.

We spent 3 nights at the Ace Kyoto. The rooms are spacious and stylish and designed with excellent attention to detail. The location is perfect for eating out and shopping, the staff are very efficient and the facilities are 5 star. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

Beautiful hotel with spacious and comfortable rooms. The record players in the rooms were a very nice touch. My wife and I discovered a new artist through the hotels vinyl collection. The location is very walkable and close to great restaurants and coffee shops.

Excellent value, service, and location. Pros: - centrally located - excellent service from the staff. The english speaking staff provided us with a number quality recommendations and even helped us book some reservations. They provided a thoughtful map of the city with recommendations listed across Kyoto. - bikes provided on first come first served basis. - restaurants were decent quality - allowed us to amend our reservation with short notice - our basic room was small but cozy. Well thought out layout for the room to maximize space. Record player in room with records. Cons: - there is no fitted sheet over the dirty mattress pad on the bed. As you move around in the night, you will inevitably find yourself sleeping directly on the dirty mattress pad. Easy fix… use a fitted sheet! Would stay here again and would recommend to others.

Modern Japanese style, very artistic, lovely large room, immaculately clean, great location, good food and terrific staff. Loved the record player and guitar in the room too. Actually we emailed the hotel a week after we left to ask about the Japanese record we played a few times to remind us of our stay. Housekeeping went and found it, and sent us a picture together with its Spotify link. Nice touch.

Our recent stay was the second time visiting Kyoto and staying at ACE Hotel. We discovered this lovely hotel because they were hosting the Noma Kyoto pop up, from 3 Star Michelin Chef René Redzepi, of Noma Copenhagen. The dinner was amazing. For breakfast, we enjoyed Mr. Maurice’s which offered a choice of Japanese or Western breakfast. An option to eat outside was very nice. The rooms are clean and modern and the hotel has an artsy vibe to it. Hospitality is wonderful as each member speaks English and goes out of their way to assist you in every way possible. They really make you feel special and at home. Under the hotel is direct access to the K Line Metro. Also, just a few walking blocks away is Nishiki Market which offers shops filled on multiple streets.

We recently spent three nights at The Ace as we visited Kyoto as a part of our holiday in Japan. It had a really cool vibe, great location next to the subway (intersection of the city’s two subway lines), great outdoor terrace bar/restaurant, the only branch of the US “”Stumptown”coffee chain outside of the US, and super friendly staff. The room was well appointed, beautifully finished and well thought out. I loved the record player and selection of vinyl LPs in the room!. The hotel has a strong local design ethos - looks and feels great. The hotel is set in a modern complex (a former telephone exchange) of shops, restaurants and a beautiful garden. Local amenities (literally over the road) include a great liquor store, a Lawson, and a pharmacy. We ate a few times close to Nishiki market - a 10 min stroll away.

Given all the hype, I was thoroughly looking forward to staying at the Ace Hotel in Kyoto. Sadly any thoughts that this was a top end luxury hotel were immediately dispelled as we arrived in the lobby, which, quite frankly, resembles a student union building. Call me old fashioned, but...

Given all the hype, I was thoroughly looking forward to staying at the Ace Hotel in Kyoto. Sadly any thoughts that this was a top end luxury hotel were immediately dispelled as we arrived in the lobby, which, quite frankly, resembles a student union building. Call me old fashioned, but do you really expect to be met with a mass of people on their laptops, booming music and a montage of clothing that would not be out of place in a charity shop. We ate in their Mexican restaurant one night, which was OK. In fairness, the room was quite comfortable and the hotel is well located for everything that Kyoto has to offer. There is a small high end shopping mall alongside the hotel and having easy access to the Kyoto metro is a bonus. There are plenty of really good eating and drinking options close to the hotel. Would I recommend this hotel, probably yes. But, expectations need to be managed, and if you are happy with a Youth Club vibe then the Ace Hotel will be fine.
