I recently stayed at the Sheraton Portsmouth and had a terrible experience. Upon checking into our room we discovered our AC was not functioning (the fan would not turn on), our shower was dirty and had someone else’s bodily hair (looked like public hair) stuck to the floor, there was a yellow liquid that appeared to be urine in the toilet, and the floors in the room were completely filthy and stained my socks. On top of this our room smelled of cigarette smoke and we did not have a “do not disturb/clean” sign. The sheets and mattresses were stained. The shampoo bottles in the shower were moldy and also had hair stuck to them. This is unacceptable.
I tried to speak with someone at the front desk however both times the line was extremely long and to the front door…there were only two employees working. Unclear if this was part of the recent outages that mariott experienced as my digital key that should have been issued was also not issued. While waiting I overheard a person in line in front of me being told that no more of our room type were available…As we checked in around 4pm and had plans, I was unable to wait around all day to speak with someone. Since it was only one night we chose to deal with it and not use any of the basic amenities in the room including the shower…and chose to sleep on top of the duvet as to not touch the filthy bed.
When I communicated my concerns to mariott they forwarded them to the manager, CJ Shaw. He just spoke with me today and it’s quite unfortunate how he chose to handle the situation. Instead of being accountable for their missteps he chose to double down and blame the customer for not waiting in line and doing more to let management know…bc of course, the point of being on vacation is to spend your time and let hotels know of things they should have caught ahead of time like public hairs and stained sheets in an alleged “clean room”.
Additionally when we saw cleaning staff on our floor they were on their phones and ducking between rooms and the hallway all while on their personal cell phones. It’s clear this hotel cares nothing about cleanliness, accountability or its customers and I strongly urge others to not stay here based on my experience.

The Lobby was nice and spacious bright with an abundance of windows , but after thanking us at check in for being an Elite Bonboy member they assigned a room to us with a direct view of the sand/salt heap across the street and broken seals on both windows ( foggy glass). The foggy glass at least made it difficult to see the ginormous heap. We tried to open the windows thinking this would improve our experience with fresh salt air , however the windows are bolted
Shut.

Very well situated in heart of all the activities. Some nice views overlooking the harbor. Rooms a bit outdated but very clean. The service is top notch from check in to bar, to valet to club lounge to bar staff all very accommodating and friendly. Only drawback is the valet fee of $35, otherwise top notch, parking in town is limited so best to have valet since service is great and you will be walking for most activities. Lyft is around $3-6 for any restaurants as well.

Clean, comfortable and overall fantastic
Stayed in Portsmouth overnight for a concert. Had the nicest stay here. By far the best of any hotel on a while. Room was immaculate, with vinyl flooring instead of carpet. Yes, please! Highly recommend and we've got our go to for Portsmouth!
One of my favorite hotels
Room was excellent freshly upgraded. Breakfast was spot on.
Parking at the hotel is good.
And you’re only steps away from great shops and restaurants. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. We stayed for one night and would have stayed longer if time had permitted.

My wife and I stayed at the Sheraton Harborside this week and we had a great time! Check in was flawless and we met the General Manager, CJ Shaw who was assisting staff with the check in process. Mr Shaw also upgraded our room when he realized it was my wife's birthday. A total class move! Food was fantastic and the bar service was exceptional. We will definitely return to this property, as everything was top shelf!!!

I am writing to contradict the bad reviews of this hotel in the fall. My husband, who is a platinum elite Marriott member, booked the hotel for one night. Everything about our stay was excellent. The room was clean; ,the reception was friendly. The breakfast in " the club" was very nice. I felt compelled to write an honest yet glowing review. We have nothing bad to say. We both agreed to stay here in the future.

4 hour wait to check in, charged $900 for a very basic room

Dont stat at the Sheraton. Where do I begin. As a supposed Platnum Elite member I can tell you it's meaningless. We booked a room at the Sheraton Harborview in Portsmouth. We were told the room was a Delux King, with lounge access, bathroom with bath/tub. We requested a noontime check in, but instead sat in the lobby from noon till 4pm waiting for our room. We wanted cancel but we're told we would be charge the $900 either way. The room was very small and very basic, with no tub. So a 4 hour wait, a check in that wasn't until 4pm and a very over priced $900 room. We stay in Portsmouth regularly. Literally every other hotel is nicer, with larger rooms and 1/3 the price. The manager offer us 2000 points for the inconvenience, that's $18.

Ok very average hotel, not worth the price.
Very average hotel with small rooms. I wouldn’t consider this a upper level Marriott brand at all. This is more on the level of a entry level hotel. The rooms are clean, parking is an extra $30 a night for self park. The location is fine and the check in...

Beautiful spot, very friendly staff, nicely appointed rooms, beautiful, clean lobby and hallways.
Loss of one star due to:
- very noisy A/C
- filthy exhaust fan vent in bathroom
Very good location and very good system of self parking with valet parking available for only $5 more than self.
I've stayed in four Marriott properties so far this year, two of which were Sheratons and this is by far the best one I've been to. It might even been the best hotel we've stayed at in years. It's beautifully remodeled: the hallways are well lit, the bar and dining...
I've stayed in four Marriott properties so far this year, two of which were Sheratons and this is by far the best one I've been to. It might even been the best hotel we've stayed at in years. It's beautifully remodeled: the hallways are well lit, the bar and dining area overlook the harbor and the room, while small, was clean and comfortable. There is infused water in the lobby (and cookies yesterday afternoon) and complimentary coffee near the elevators every morning. Downtown is a five minute walk away. What really made this property outstanding though was the people.
Joe at the front desk was accommodating and fabulous. Inky left us a note which we appreciated and Sue who took care of the Lounge was welcoming and efficient. This service is top notch. Well done. We'll be back.

Nice one night stay. Our room was nice. The view wasn’t great but I think there was a wedding or two happening, so maybe they got the better view rooms . The front desk staff was friendly and efficient, as was the valet. The location of the hotel was perfect!...

Donna checked us in at the front desk when we arrived on St. Patrick's Day. She is very helpful and sweet and an absolute pleasure to talk with! There were cute St. Patrick necklaces and trinkets for guests set up on a table when we came into the lobby that were replaced later in the night with chocolate cupcakes with buttercream, mint frosting.
We walked to all our favorite spots and wound up the night at the hotel bar, with the bartender, Dan. Not only does Dan make a mean martini, but his menu suggestions were on point! Trust and believe that everyone deserves a bowl of rich, chocolate gelato and some blueberry crisp. Both, suggested by Dan, and devoured by two very happy guests.
The room was set up nicely and the bed was so comfortable!
We will be going back this summer.

In addition to the amazing staff, we found the hotel clean, the beds comfortable, and the food and beverages delicious. The location was both picturesque and perfect. We were able to walk to dinner and our show.
If you need accommodations in Portsmouth, we highly recommend this outstanding hotel!
