Very pleasant older hotel in great location

We had a really wonderful stay at the Pine Inn. First, it is one of the only hotels in Carmel that will allow a one-night stay. Second, while the standard rooms are on the smaller side, the price of the room totally makes up for it, and if you book directly, they offer a $25 voucher for breakfast at Il Fornaio downstairs. Next time we will book a king room with an ocean view, which we understand is fabulous and still very reasonable.
I was concerned that the stay might be noisy based on a couple of reviews, but it was very quiet, and we had a room overlooking the main street, which basically shuts down by 9:00pm. The only thing we heard were the waves in the distance.
The queen bed & pillows were super comfortable and there was an ample closet, something that many B&Bs and smaller hotels lack. And we even had a glimpse of the water and sunset. It was like being in a little oasis.
The front desk could not have been more welcoming and friendly. And when we requested ice, it was brought up to our room in record time. We were extremely happy with our entire stay and will definitely be back!

Unfortunately the only breakfast options are in a quite pricey attached restaurant. I am gluten free and there were next to no options! The waiter just shrugged at me when I asked for GF bread.
There is no ac and our bedroom was located next to some sort of heating unit kicking off a lot of heat. Even at night the room was like a sauna!! When you opened the door to leave there was a blast of lovely cool air but obviously you can’t leave the door open!

We booked to stay at the Pine Inn as it is in the perfect location for exploring the stores and restaurants in Carmel. However we were disappointed with the Inn for several reasons. As other reviewers have noted it is badly in need of some "love". The ground floor is olde world elegant - a lot of red velvet and dark wood, evocative of the era it was built - however the "no food and drink" sign is the first thing you see, so not too welcoming as a place to sit and relax with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Once you leave the first floor to go to your room you find yourself on a carpet that is stained and worn and definitely in need of replacing. Our room was on the third floor (there is no elevator so it is a good workout). The door to the room is fairly beaten up and we found out very quickly that the neighbors' doors slam loudly each time they enter or exit. The room itself was elegant, though, and looked as if it had been freshly painted but the bathroom was a different story. The toilet roll holder was becoming detached from the wall and, again, it badly needed painting.
There is no a/c (not really needed in Carmel) but there was a ceiling fan in the room which was on when we arrived. We decided to turn it off and the noise it made was so alarming we did not turn it on again. Instead we opened the window so enjoyed all the local delivery trucks and traffic outside.
The biggest negative, however, is the parking. The Inn does disclose that there is limited parking but it really is quite a problem. There are 19 spaces for over thirty rooms and when there are no spaces left the staff suggest you park on the street or in the neighbourhood. Again, not so easy, so be prepared for long walks to and from the hotel. Would we return - no - instead we would try the Normandy across the road.

perfect location, tight space
Perfect location in a quaint, adorable town. Very walkable, friendly staff. Room was very small (should have booked a larger room but we were only staying one night). Many great restaurant choices, bars, wine tastings and walk to the beach. Enjoyed our stop here on our West Coast travels.
Courteous staff , great location, quiet room. Walk right in to town or take a 15 minute stroll to the beach. They have limited free parking for hotel guest but then again it is Carmel. I am glad they have some parking. Great restaurants, nice beach and a lot to...

Very accommodating staff with my broken foot. I was looking forward to the ocean view room, this 120+ year old hotel didn't have an elevator and I only had one working foot. The staff kindly reminded me daily if the ascent was too much, there was a patio level room waiting for me. But the view was worth my hopping up the stairs. Very comfortable bed and linens, loved being close to Il Fornaio for our morning coffee & pastries. We've stayed at the Pine Inn before & hope to return again soon.

Always friendly and helpful staff. The lobby is charming and the breakfast at il Fornaio attached is great. We were given a room in the "annex" just East and separated from of the main facility, room #41 I believe. 1) it takes three VERY steep stairways to get there and 2) the room is the smallest we've ever stayed in, even in Europe. The queen bed takes up all the space and storage space is very minimal. We are small people but almost claustrophobic in there. Staff was readily available to transport luggage. Albeit it is probably the least expensive room in the hotel, it is really suitable for only one person, and definitely not a senior or physically challenged given the stair situation. It was neat and clean if a bit dated. The shower was really good. There is an ocean view beyond the rooftops. Hotel location is terrific.

We were in room2 which was separate from the main hotel, up a short flight of stairs, overlooking main high street. Small room but huge bathroom with jacuzzi bath.
No complementary tea/coffee in the room but was provided with hot water to make my own.
Reception staff were very helpful with how to make the most of our stay with places to visit.
A map of the area showing points of interest, in the rooms would have been helpful
