GDM Megaron Historical Monument Hotel

GDM Megaron is a grand old European hotel situated in the port area of Heraklion, close to everything. It was built in the 1920's but very tastefully updated. Don't miss the fantastic breakfasts. Friendly staff, nice big rooms, and very quiet. I loved this hotel.

Conveniently located top star hotel with historical feel. Welcoming and very helpful staff from checkin, room service, cafe. Easy parking included and the staff were very knowledgeable on the area and restaurant selection. Clean and room was comfortable and quiet.

I can't say enough about the value of this hotel. Beautiful hotel and rooms, convenient location and service on par with our stays at a Ritz Carlton. The front desk (SO sorry I am forgetting the nice lady's name) recommended a wonderful restaurant for dinner and arranged for transportation. Upon learning that I was celebrating my birthday she thoughtfully had a delicious cake delivered to my room. Breakfasts were above expectations.

And then there are the little touches - like cookies waiting for you in a crystal jar that make this place special.

Clean room (with a view, if you are lucky), fast WiFi, a small but well equipped gym that even has a punching bag, a beautiful rooftop pool And restaurant, good ac, 15 mins from the airport and walking distance to local stores.

This hotel is a fine example of a great place to stay. It is well-located, rooms are clean and spacious, and the breakfast is varied and superb. My wife and I stayed for 7 nights from 26th Sep., 2024. This hotel's greatest asset is their staff, and I mention the breakfast room staff in particular because they deserve acknowledgement. They warmly greeted us every morning, immediately brought us excellent coffee and freshly-squeezed OJ. During our six-week trip these lovely people set the standard against which we compared every other hotel. No-one came close! The selection of breakfast items was large and was varied every day. Most items were prepared in-house and were delicious. Without hesitation, I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Megaron is a 5-star hotel with a perfect view of the Sea of Crete. We had a clean, comfortable, large room on the top floor. The front desk is attentive and courteous. Their housekeeping staff took great care of us everyday during our 4-night stay. The best treat was their amazing, beautifully displayed breakfast buffet. You could stand there and admired all the details and love it took. Everything is prepared in their kitchen Their baked goods and cookies were over the top. A special shoutout to Irene, our server every morning. She is so kind and sweet. We enjoyed chatting with her everyday. She made us feel so welcomed during our stay. She added the 5-star ⭐️ to the Megaron.

We loved everything about the Megaron, aptly named as we learned, the queen's chambers. The staff was extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful. The decor was luxurious and comfortable, the breakfast amazing, the best we had in Greece in a two-week period. The location was so convenient: walking distance to the bus terminal, restaurants, shopping, and the Archeological Museum. The view of the harbor from our balcony was beautiful, as was the view from the rooftop restaurant and pool. If we have the opportunity to visit Crete again, we will definitely stay here.

This five star hotel has free parking in its own lot right out front. Great location and service. we used the steam bath for a 30 euro charge--very nice. Rooms are thoughtfully equipped and large. Breakfast is vast and certainly good, but the dozens of different cookies and other baked goods are not really delicious (sugar, white flour, flavoring), and croissants are not made with butter. So: quantity over quality. But the buffet sure looked stunning!

Warm welcome, excellent Reception service, lovely room with Korres products in bathroom, small but charming rooftop pool and relaxation/bar area, 10 minute walk to Heraklion Museum, bus station for Knossos right outside and airport bus stop 10 mins away, good breakfast. In other words - perfect spot for Cretan capital.

It reminds me of a hotel that I lived in1977 in Rome; that has been updated. Nice new showers. We were facing the water with 2 balconies. Why no chairs outside and a small table? They would easily fit. We loved the breakfast and we thought the staff was fantastic:

Highly recommend this hotel that is located within walking distance of city center and the port. Room was large, comfortable and very clean. The buffet breakfast was amazing and is included! A public bus stop is located right next to the hotel.

One of the best hotels we have ever visited. From reception staff to restaurant staff, the service was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely Irene who cheerfully served us our breakfast every day. The hotel itself was exceptional, very elegant and in a great location. Highly recommended.

One thing to be aware of is that the pool is small. It made us laugh upon our arrival because the picture was so unlike the advertisements. Either way our room was awesome, big and clean. (I would recommend paying extra for sea view because it's pretty view.)

The rooms are very comfortable and the location of the hotel could not be better. You can walk to the port in five minutes to take ferries to other Greek Islands, and it is a 10 minute walk to the city center with all of the sites. Best of all, the staff is fabulous. How grateful we were to meet Effie - who was a joy. She was a great source of information, and always greeting us with a smile and a good word.

The staff is incredible. we forgot our passports in the safe and on the way to the airport, they reached out to the cab driver, which enabled the cab driver to return and let us retrieve it. thank god! certainly the best hotel i have ever stayed at, the breakfast buffet is to die for. stay here, you will never forget the service and memories!

We especially enjoyed the food at the rooftop restaurant and ended up eating there for two of the nights during our stay. The staff was attentive and the breakfast each morning had so many options and variety. The location is also very good - we were able to walk from the ferry and it is 10 minutes from the airport, and very close to the fortress. Highly recommend!!

A beautiful hotel, in a perfect location, with impeccable service and attention. From the moment we arrived we knew we'd made the right choice! The room was excellent with a very comfortable bed and a wonderful balcony with views overlooking the Old Venetian Harbour. The breakfast in the morning was beautiful with so many delicious options and the roof top pool and bar were just perfect after a day of exploring Heraklion. But best of all were the staff - we were greeted with a warm welcome upon our arrival and everyone was happily willing to assist with anything we needed, making our stay at GDM Megaron just perfect.

We had an excellent stay in mid May. Rooms are great. Very good location with easy walking to sites, shopping, and restaurants. The breakfast spread was a feast for the eyes, senses, and stomach. The variety of foods and pastries was staggering. I would stay here again without hesitation.

We picked this hotel for our 2 night stay in Heraklion because of all the reviews. The rooms have high ceilings, a bit dated but comfortable and quiet. I was worried because we overlooked 2 discos (alley facing) but we didn't hear anything. Breakfast is 100% the best part of our stay. The location is very close to the main pedestrian/tourist shops but we found it sketchy to walk there. The adjacent property has been left unkept and it made it difficult to walk to the touristy/restaurant area. We would have to cross the main road to the port side then cross back. Hotel is 10 min walk to Seajet terminal which we took to Santorini. (Beware: don't take catamaran if it is rough weather, the entire ship was sick)
