So, super cute in great location. This is not a 5 star hotel. I don’t say this in a bad way, whatsoever, but more to temper expectation. Here is what it is. Fabulous location. Best eateries everywhere. Walkable to all of old town. Fabulous balcony overlooking marina. A perfect night to 3 location. If big luxury your thing.. no. No gym, pool, nor spa. That’s not the point. This is about perfect location with all that Chania has to offer footsteps away. It’s comfortable and clean. Did jr suite. Liked it. Perfect for what we wanted. Just keep expectation of what it is. Breakfast is “good”, just limited. Really depends on expectation. Perfectly adequate, just not grand. Would we go back? Yep. Location is awesome. View from marina facing suites, stellar. Don’t think you could do better after walking chania old town. So yes, this is a go recommendation. It’s just a don’t expect 5 star. (No intention whatsoever of downplaying its strengths) . It’s a great place to stay. If you want true luxury, stay here for Location and awesome nearby food and nightlife, then go to luxury. 5 star for 2 nights of fun, with proper expectation. That said, would go back for that. The convenience, location, vibe… yep. All good S

Lovely hotel in prime position at the old port. Comfortable room with a stunning sea view from the balcony. Helpful staff. Would highly recommend staying here. Parking places available, walking distance to main town & restaurants steps away!
Room was small but very clean, comfortable and tidy. Great location at the quieter end of the Marina with only a short walk to the main town and tavernas. Lovely to be able to sit outside at breakfast and watch the world go by. Would definitely recommend.

We had the most amazing suite/room. We had a perfect view of the harbor from our 3 (!) balconies. 110 , 210 or 310 are the rooms to choose. Staff members are uniformly polite and eager to help. Good breakfast is included. Nice dinner outside by the boats.
Lovely staff and clean, modern bedrooms in great location.

Our junior suite had a very thoughtful set up with the bedroom area separated from living room with sliding doors into a center divider so if one person wants to be sleeping, he wouldn’t be disturbed by the other who might be reading or watching TV or getting ready for the day. Room was lovely and super comfortable in every regard, and very quiet even though it was facing the harborside. We enjoyed two small balconies with beautiful views. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

This is a very romantic hotel in an excellent location. We spent two lovely nights here. There are wonderful places to walk on the waterfront with many shops and restaurants. It was particularly nice as it was before the high season. My room was small but well appointed with a balcony and a bit of a view of the harbor. The breakfast buffet was one of the better ones we had during our tour of Greece but their cappuccinos were the best. The staff is very attentive and welcoming and they secured a reservation for me at a difficult to get into restaurant in Heraklion.

We've often thought there must be a very good 3* hotel in any city that would suit us rather than having to pay extortionate prices in 5* hotels. Well here in Chania we found one. The Porto Veneziano. We stayed for five nights. The staff without exception are superb. Better yet, the food for breakfast, lunch or dinner is freshly cooked using local producers. We were told that two ladies oversee the kitchen most days and I can only say their food preparation, presentation and flavour was better than in a 5* London hotel we stayed at on our way home. I mean that seriously. Thank you again ladies. It was a pleasure. As regards rooms, if you're travelling solo or just staying for a night, then the entry level rooms will be fine albeit the bathrooms are tiny (a bugbear of mine). For longer stays, if your budget allows, I'd choose a suite. We swapped and were glad we did. So for us : Staff 5* Food 5* Location 5* We'd willingly return, not so much because of Chania itself but simply to enjoy The Porto Veneziano again. Thank you all.

We spent a month in Greece and stayed at the Porto Veneziano Hotel, located in Old Town Harbour Chania, for 4 nights. This hotel was by far the best of the hotels we visited. It was the only hotel where the bathroom had a night light so you don't have to stumble around in the dark looking for your cell phone to find the bathroom at 3AM. The breakfast starts at 7AM and was excellent. Loved their cinnamon tea. If you want eggs they cook them up fresh, not served from a hot tray. Their coffee was better than other hotels too. This is not surprising as they run a sidewalk cafe. The front desk was able to exchange some Canadian dollars for Euro's at a 2% fee which is competitive with Chania's banks. Our room did not face the harbour and with breakfast cost us approximately $175 USD per night In April. Highly recommended.

We love returning to this hotel. On the face of it, it is a business hotel..which indeed it is. But it is so much more than that. The owner manager selects his staff with great care and must have inculcated into them his own standards. First-time vistors have commented to me how friendly the staff are (and that was certainly NOT the case at every place we stayed at in Crete recently). They take a genuine interest and will do their utmost to ensure you enjoy your stay. The hotel's wondrous breakfast has been improved. The main breakfast room has been extensively and, I would guess, expensively, remodelled and it is now a very fine room indeed. The buffet breakfast is the best I have come across. It has everything: from sweet to savoury, from cold to hot. If you would like a cooked item it will be cooked to order - I even enjoyed the rich porridge! The range of drinks, cereals, jams, spreads, breads, cakes, pies, cold delicacies and above all the superlative fresh salads...when can I go back? Breakfast really is excellent. The big gripe about the hotel has always been that the rooms are too small. When the hotel was built in 1974 it was so very much better than the other hotels in Chania ( I speak from experience as I have been visiting Chania since 1964). Its design would, I hope, never be approved if the hotel were being built from scratch today but in the war-ravaged city that was Chania in the years after the Second World War it was an enormous vote of confidence. The rooms are small but the location is brilliant and the staff and food are superb. We ate dinner in the hotel twice while we stayed. The quality of the food was absolutely first class and the presentation and atmosphere perfect. I find it difficult to say anything negative about the whole establishment

Comfortable rooms, best balcony views of any hotel in Chania (sea-facing rooms), helpful, friendly, highly professional staff and wonderful (and huge, if you wish) breakfasts. For the last few years it's had an excellent restaurant too. The rooms are small, but if you're not out and about, shame on you - and you'll probably want to sit on the balcony anyway. A special mention for the cleaning staff who keep the rooms spotless. The location in the Old Town is great for exploring, and just a stroll from numerous cafes and restaurants.

Don’t hesitate. This is a gem. One of the best hotels and location we have ever stayed in.
Our room was amazing, 3 rd floor, sea view, large and luxurious. This is a first class hotel,. It’s on the less busy side of the beautiful downtown Chania bay. The breakfast is great. You can walk to everything. We had an amazing three days there.
Very charming hotel in a perfect location - very central, facing the port, but at the same time in a quiet corner.. The sunset view from the balcony was amazing. Comfortable room, soft bed and easy parking. We left early and couldn't enjoy breakfast, but we got coffee to go.

I’ve travelled to many countries and continents, but had never experienced such unprofessionalism from a hotel. The management of this hotel sent me messages through Booking.com to ask my estimated arrival time so they could ensure the “optimal service that we would expect”. I messaged them back with our EAT. When we turned up on the day, after travelling for more than two hours from Heraklion, reception told us to leave our luggage and come back in 40 minutes as our “very nice room” on the top floor wasn’t ready. We left our luggage and went out for lunch. Upon our return to the hotel an hour and a half later, i.e. after 3:30pm, another woman in reception told us that our room on the 2nd floor (and not on the top floor as the first woman told us) was clean but the bed wasn’t made. We told her we were told that our “nice nice room” was supposed to be on the top floor but she was adamant that our room was on the 2nd floor. She gave us the key and told us the maid was coming to make the bed when we were out later. When we arrived at our room, we found the door left wide open and, when we looked inside the room, we were in shock as it was in a total mess (photos attached). When we were sitting down in disbelief, the phone rang and the woman from reception told us to go downstairs for free drinks to make up for the total disgrace but I answered her with upmost anger. She then offered to come to our room to give apologies and to offer us free drinks again and a free meal, but we sent her away as we needed peace and quiet to come to terms with such an overwhelmingly bad service and a totally chaotic “welcome”.

Stayed during the weekend at the end of May/beginning of June for 3 nights at Porto Veneziano Hotel, Chania. The location of the hotel, in a quiet area overlooking the harbour, was the main attraction for us, but once there we appreciated the facilities and excellent service offered by hotel management and all members of staff. We dined in the Restaurant one evening and enjoyed a superb dinner listening to the pianist who plays on a Saturday evening. We booked a superior sea view suite on the corner of the first floor and were impressed by the size and quality of the suite which enjoyed front and side balconies to enable us to enjoy the view and activities on the harbourside. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer.

The desk manager recommended a wonderful harbor restaurant as soon as we arrived. Breakfast included a great variety of breads, pastries, fruits, cold cuts and yogurt. This was a great find and I heartily recommend staying here.

This is the place to stay in Chania! We traveled to Greece in late April for Easter and stayed 3 nights at the hotel Porto Veneziano. It's the perfect spot! It's nestled into the back of the inlet with a fantastic view of the lighthouse. Right on the water! Most of the foot traffic is from those going the lighthouse. Otherwise, especially at night, the walkway is quiet. Despite being set back from the harbor, from the Veneziano it's an easy stroll to the many shops, restaurants, and tavernas Chania has to offer. Also, the hotel is a great launching point to various day trips. We went to the Elafonisi beach (they loan you beach towels). Port Veneziano itself is just what you would expect from a classy waterfront hotel. The hotel lobby is comfortably clean as are the rooms. If the weather is right they can open the doors to the many outside tables with umbrellas. All this with service, morning til night. On the bar side there is a delightful terrace with tables to enjoy your morning coffee. They have a great dining room. Breakfast is substantial and stays open til 10:30. The restaurant in the evening serves delicious dishes that deserve mentioning. The parking is free and I was never without a space. It's also in the back and side of the hotel with a gate and security cameras monitored by the front desk. The rooms have balconies and I would look for one facing the water. The staff is one of the things that set them apart. Check in was easy with compliments going out to Vasili. The rest of the front desk staff was remarkable as well. Both Angela and Katerina were very helpful. The breakfast staff were attentive and energetic. Our favorite was Mixalis, who looks like he should be playing tight end. Panayiotis, the restaurant manager, is fantastic. He is definitely one to know at the Veneziano. When you stay there, make sure you visit the bar and meet Nektarios. You can't miss him with his broom mustache and friendly smile. This guy is the perfect bartender! He creates the atmosphere at the bar that reminds me of my favorites back home. Enjoy a great conversation with some Raki! My cowboy hat's off to him. Chania is a charming town and the Porto Veneziano is the place to stay. The location, the facility and the especially the staff make this a place I will gladly visit again.
