Going to Cape Town? Check into Derwent House. As we planned our trip the owner of this beautiful ten room boutique was exceptionally helpful in planning dinner, entertainment and sightseeing opportunities during our stay. Upon arrival the staff came to the door and greeted us by name before we said a word to identify ourselves. The service throughout our five night visit was impeccable. Breakfast was available every morning with a wide variety of delicious foods and served at our table inside or poolside by smiling and cheerful staff. The location is fabulous and our room had a patio with a stunning view of Table Mountain and Lions Head. Plenty of restaurants and shopping in walking distance. And the decor was magnificent with comfort and local ambiance as the well achieved goal. Highly recommend this place and if in Cape Town again I’ll be there!!!

Honestly it was fantastic, we stayed between Christmas and New Year so a busy time for the Team but Patience, Luca, Tash Gladice and the whole team were exceptional. The rooms, the atmosphere, the food and the location are all amazing. I genuinely can't tell you what an amazing gem of a hotel this is and I'm not sure hotel is the right word, it feels more like a family house with owners who have amazing taste and really understand their guests. If you don't like staying at Derwent House I think that may say more about you then it does about them lol
So much I could say, but the crux of it, would we go back again, in a heartbeat, would I recommend it, I would recommend it to our Mums :))
Thanks for making the stay what it was

Understandably a Cape Town favourite for so many visitors to this fantastic city.
Derwent House is a stunning, ten bedroom boutique hotel with an eclectic interior with the feel of being a home from home. Each bedroom is individually decorated with everything you need for a very relaxing, comfortable stay.
It is set in the tranquil Garden neighbourhood which offers simply stunning views up towards Table mountain and only a short walk to the wide array of restaurants and bars along Bree Street.
Thank-you to Luca (Manager), Tash and the team for providing such a personal and tailored stay. The team are friendly, welcoming and you’ll quickly find yourself part of the Derwent family.
If you’re looking for recommendations on activities, restaurants or what’s on trend in the city and wider area then just ask Luca, he won’t let you down and always happy to help you get the most from your stay.
Enjoy sampling the complementary cakes and cookies in the afternoon, very tasty! As well as a glass of port or sherry in the evening. Guests can choose from a wide selection of wines, MCC, a Gin bar, beers and nonalcoholic drinks its self serve and note your choices via the honesty bar chit.
We had a wonderful, fun packed stay in Cape Town and Derwent House provided a relaxing haven to rest before the next adventure.
Thank-you for the memories and look forward to returning.

The staff were just brilliant and we genuinely gained the impression that Derwent is a good place to work for.
I think what really impressed us is that they just get all the small things right. The honesty box for purchasing drinks. Placing water in our rooms in the evening for us to come back to. Leaving the bill on our bed the night before so we know what to expect and pay for the following morning. Derwent just really understands thier guests journeys and it allowed us to be independent whilst at the same time open to conversing with the staff at any point. I can't recommend enough and feel super lucky to have stayed here. Thank you to Tash and the wider team for a brilliant stay 🩵

We spent the final five nights of our South African holiday here at the Derwent House Hotel, and it is without doubt one the very best hotels we have EVER stayed at during out c30 years of travelling all over the world.
A great location on a quiet residential street just off the vibrant Kloof Street.
The facilities and amenities offered by the hotel were second to none:
Complementary cookies and cake, iced water, fresh fruit, port, sherry and more!
A well stocked honesty bar.
A great little pool and sun terrace perfect for cooling off after a hot day sightseeing.
An amazing breakfast with changing daily specials.
However perhaps the best thing about the hotel was quality of the staff. All of them friendly, attentive and keen to help out at every opportunity.
We really enjoyed our stay and would thoroughly recommend!

Our final 5 days in South Africa were spent over Christmas at this delightful small hotel. Luca, the manager, is welcoming and extremely helpful. The hotel is in a quiet residential area in an up market area between the city and Table Mountain. From the pool you have stunning views of Table Mountain. The normal rooms are small but comfy with everything you need just don't expect marble and chandeliers. Breakfasts are delicious with plenty of variety and quality ingredients. I was unwell for the last couple of days and Patience (looking after the hotel overnight) was very caring and gave me kind assistance (even booking an appointment with a local doctor). It is when things go wrong, you really know the quality of an establishment and this one responded admirably. Hihgly recommended

The Most Perfect Place in Cape Town! My husband and I spent 2 all too short nights in this amazing boutique hotel, and right from the start, felt completely taken care of in every way. No detail is too small - and most needs were already met before we even thought about them! From the lovely complementary food and drink available anytime, to the staff who are always smiling and eager to help, our biggest problem was in not having time to enjoy the wonderful amenities and goodies. Our room (the suite) was spacious and comfortable, and the living spaces, swimming pool and art work makes this much more like a beautiful home one can enjoy in any number of locations. This is our second stay, and it is just as wonderful as the first time. Thank you to the amazing hosts and staff! If we could give Derwent House 10 stars, we would! We can't wait to come again!

We stayed at Derwent House for two nights before the start of a Backroads cycling and safari trip. It was a perfect location for us. It’s a safe neighborhood and you can walk to restaurants or downtown or to the company gardens. The staff was exceptional. We were greeted with cold drinks and freshly baked cookies. Tash and Oliver stood out for helping us with planning our expeditions and making sure we had dinner reservations. When I left my credit card at the hotel, Tash was instrumental in coordinating with our trip leader to get it back to me. One of the most caring staffs anywhere.

This was the first property we stayed at during our visit to Cape Town and it was purely based on reviews. We understand why! The property is more quaint than a big hotel but still offers everything you need in a more comfortable setting. It is located in a cute, quiet neighborhood off Kloof St. The property is gated which makes it feel really private and the outside is deceiving! Once you step in, you are surrounded by beautiful, colorful furnishings and art. Tash greeted us and brought us to a little table overlooking the pool. She chatted enthusiastically about her favorite things in the area and gave us a welcome drink which was really nice. The common areas are really pretty and well thought out. The rooms are all in different parts of the property. Ours was more private in a separate building on the second floor. We had a private balcony and patio along with a separate bedroom, living room and kitchenette. It was such a great room! Again, very colorful with wonderful, traditional touches. The location is great and within walking distance of several restaurants (don't miss Black Sheep). We met Luca the following day who gave us some great recommendations for our first full day there. He also offered to take us on a hike up Lions Head on our second full day (for a reasonable fee) which was really helpful. He talked about the history of the area and the different sections of the city as we hiked. We feel fortunate he had time to spend with us. And the hike was really memorable - great views from the top! The breakfasts every morning were way more than we expected. So good! We were grateful for the staff since we would have missed out on some experiences if we hadn't spoken with them. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a more "local" place to stay without staying on your own. If you book, remember to book directly through the hotel website. It was very easy and it ensures your dollars all go to the property. :-)

The Derwent House is a lovely Cape Town boutique hotel that we highly recommend. Our room was very nice but what really separates Derwent House is the excellent, highly welcoming service from a fantastic staff plus the layout of the complete location – breakfast dining area, pool, etc. Special thanks to Luca and team for proactively offering a late afternoon check-out allowing us to clean up before our departure to the airport following a final touring day. The team also provided great info and communications prior to our arrival. Last, we’re glad we chose the Derwent House in “the Gardens” area which provided a somewhat less touristy, more local experience including nice local restaurants, etc.

From dinner with a night cap waiting and a hot water bottle in our bed. They helped set up a day tour with Roger which was fantastic and also assisted with our wine tram trip. It is a beautiful, relaxing oasis from the stress of traveling. Thanks for making our trip to Cape Town nothing short of amazing. A special shout out to Luca and the delightful woman that helps during the evening. My apologies for not remembering her name.
