- Vail is named for Charles Vail, the engineer who designed the route for US Highway 6 which runs through the Eagle Valley. Highway 6 later became Interstate 70.
- Vail is the second largest ski area in the US with diverse terrain including the seven famous Back Bowls, as well as challenging bump runs, cross country skiing and even several beginner zones.
- Vail is actually several interconnected villages and neighborhoods clustered around the Gore Creek as it winds its way through town. The streets are heated in the winter and closed to cars, which makes them perfect for strolling, shopping and bar-hopping late into the night.
