  • Vail is named for Charles Vail, the engineer who designed the route for US Highway 6 which runs through the Eagle Valley. Highway 6 later became Interstate 70.
  • Vail is the second largest ski area in the US with diverse terrain including the seven famous Back Bowls, as well as challenging bump runs, cross country skiing and even several beginner zones.

  • Go Car-free: Once you get there, you can park your car and walk around the pedestrians-only villages or use the free public transportation that connects the villages to each other and the ski lifts.

  • Visit a Museum: The Colorado Snowsports Museum tells the story of the town of Vail as well as the 10th Mountain Division, which trained in the area during World War II. The Vail Ski Resort was founded by a veteran from the 10th Mountain Division. The Museum is also home to the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame.
