VR Rotorua Lake Resort

The rooms are tired. The food was excellent The pool was ice cold & uninviting Restaurant/bar service good, reception staff uninterested. I would be cautious to return as unless investment is made this place will only become more shabby. Disappointed

Just don't it's dirty outdated dusty mouldy would give this place less than one star if I could. This place should be looked into and be shut done or made to update there facilities.. how wrong to be charging this amount of money for a ruggerd old let down resort

Had one night here I must sat Meals we had were very good indeed one Steak and one Pork really top draw. The Hotel is quite dated and well used but the reason I only gave Three stars was that the Bathroom is only separated from the Bedroom by wooden slatted shutters from waist high. I have never seen this before and it means there is no privacy when the bathroom is in use, very odd indeed

Away from the hustle and bustle of the town area. The hotel is about 15 to 20 minutes out of Rotorua and can be reached from either side of the lake, although one road is quite winding so check your map first.

My parents stayed here for a birthday. I wanted to organise some wine and dinner for them. The hotel made it all incredibly easy, adding in a complimentary dessert with birthday candle, and taking photos for me. Really kind and helpful service. Thank you !

Great stay.. good rooms got to commend Nikhil Kumar for his awesome service!! Will recommend others. First person with always smile and great gesture. Through out our stay he helpd us alot Rooms are great and cleaning is good. Restaurant food was great. Would love to stay again with friends.

This hotel is in a nice location 15 minutes outside Rotorua, seemingly ideal if you want to get away from the resort-town bustle. Employees were pleasant and helpful. But this property really shows a lack of commitment to ongoing maintenance. For example: the carpet in our room was worn, with a number of loose threads; the walls had numerous chips, dings, old screw holes, and smudges; the end of one curtain hung loose and uncloseable because hooks were missing; the screen between the bedroom and bathroom was off its track and jammed; the paint on the porch railing was peeling. The shelf space in the bathroom was limited to a 6-inch fringe around the sink, even though a floating shelf could easily have been installed on the adjacent wall; a light over the sink was burned out. Nothing that a good handyman couldn't fix in half a day, but the point is these flaws should be obvious to management, and ACTED UPON. If you think that your notel room should always feel fresh and ship-shape, you will want to look elsewhere.

The location of the motel is beautiful, on the shores of Lake Rotoiti (note, not actually Lake Rotorua but an adjacent lake!). Not surprisingly, one of its draws is that it caters for weddings and similar events. They have a large lawn going down to the water. However, their small swimming pool and spa is tucked away from the open view. We were well looked after by the staff as there were not so many guests when we stayed: they were mostly Indian origin. The evening meal menu didn’t offer a wide selection but the food was good. They do have a bit of a problem with flies and they advise keeping the French windows (which open from every room onto the lawn) closed as much as possible. We were driving an electric vehicle when we visited and the staff kindly let us plug in to an outside power socket (which was also used for their Christmas lights, so we only plugged in at the end of the evening).

This is a very reasonably priced hotel. It is dated in places, but if you are looking for a comfy bed and room with a view, close to the town then this is ideal. The bathroom is huge! The bed is comfy. Lots of appliances. Paint needs touching up in places in the room but now I’m being picky because who looks at the paint when you have a stunning view of the lake like we did! Friendly staff, clean room, just what you need!

The room was very comfortable. The employees were very nice. We enjoyed our stay very much. We visited some nice things to do and see in the surroundings. It was all nearby. Breakfast was included and was complete. We didn't miss anything.

Wonderful night at this hotel. View out over the lake, fluffy towels, excellent staff AND a heated bathroom floor. The bathroom has a full length bath as well as the shower. Being a refurbished old style resort is great. The nearby falls and walks well worth the visit. And Hells...

We stayed for two nights in April 2025 and were quite disappointed. The hotel has potential thanks to its location, but it’s in serious need of refurbishment. Reception was always empty, only reachable via a phone left on the desk. The gym hadn’t been cleaned in ages - the floor...

We stayed for two nights in April 2025 and were quite disappointed. The hotel has potential thanks to its location, but it’s in serious need of refurbishment. Reception was always empty, only reachable via a phone left on the desk. The gym hadn’t been cleaned in ages - the floor hadn’t seen a mop in what looked like years, and half the equipment was broken or teetering on the edge of it. Common areas felt neglected, with stained furniture and a generally run-down feel. Our room had several issues: the plugs didn’t work (who needs electricity anyway, right?), a dirty bathroom (especially the sink), and broken lightbulbs. WiFi was very slow and didn’t reach the room. The only highlight was the breakfast – which was decent. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to make up for the overall experience.
