If my wife and I could give this place a 5+ stars we would! We found this hidden gem the last time we visited and looked it up. We decided to try it because it was so remote and we wanted to unplug. It is the only hotel on the non commercial side of the island. It is run on a generator because there is no power to that side(the east side of the island). Miguel, Omar and Manuel were excellent as well as the rest of the staff that we did not get their names but were very friendly and took care of all our needs. We have stayed in other hotels on the other side and for us this does not even compare. With all that said, if you are looking for a 5 star luxury experience this may not be the place for you. If you are looking for a small quaint place with others that are looking for quiet relaxing atmosphere with staff that become like family then this is the place for you! It is an older facility that could use some touch ups but that would not keep us from coming back and being the only place we will now stay when we come back. The food is “delicioso” and breakfast is included if you book through them. We did not rent a car because we wanted to just stay put and relax and it served us well for getting refueled for going back home. Next time we may rent a car to have more options but for us it was not needed this trip. Just some things to know, the air conditioner is only available from 9 pm to 7 am due to running off a generator. This trip we did not even need to turn it on. We kept the doors open to hear the waves crashing outside our balcony and at night would get down to 70 deg and was perfect temp. The views are amazing, the sunrises out your window to wake up, the stars at night are breathtaking, the staff is hardworking and wonderful and we found a “home away from home” here. Met great people and was overall one of the best vacations we have ever experienced. We highly recommend Ventanas Al Mar!

Our third visit here. Difficult to describe…in a good way. On the quiet, east side of the island. Away from cruise ships and cheap souvenir shops. Perfect place for a romantic getaway, a friends vacation, or a place to relax or decompress. Hotel has a small number of rooms, but not crowded at all. All rooms face the sea and crashing waves of a rock break. But, there’s miles of flat sandy beach attached as well. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. Keep in mind, this is on-the-beach and in a sea salt air climate takes its toll on things. Meals are extremely well thought, prepared and presented. Prices are very reasonable. Service is above and beyond. Everyone is smiling and happy. Looking forward to returning.

Friendly and welcoming staff—Miguel in the mornings to start your day with a smile and fresh fruit and coffee, and Omar at night with 1st class service for the romantic dinner to reminisce on the events of the day.
Rustic and simple yet elegant rooms with constant ocean breeze and crashing waves to set a super chill mood. A/C at night from 9pm-8am only.
Not what everyone is looking for, but Ventanas al Mar is EXACTLY what my husband and I were looking for on our 23rd anniversary vacay.
We are hooked for life! VAM Exceeded all our expectations with its ability to completely reconnect us with each other and to rest our bodies and minds from the American rat race.

A slice of paradise one can only experience on the east side of Cozumel! Truly a unique place to stay, with the sound of the waves all night long. I recommend room #19 which has spectacular ocean views and a long view of the sandy beach. At night, the star gazing is something you can't get in too many places...far from the the crush of the city, the stars seemed 3 dimensional in the sky. Dinner at the restaurant was very good, with some.fresh fish. Breakfast is included and was service to your table from the menu. Dinner for 2 with a glass of wine and a soft dri k was about 65 USD. Very romantic.

We will continue to return for the comfort, tranquility and relaxation. Though we live nearby on the mainland in Playa Del Carmen, we enjoy spending a few days here each year. The staff is always inviting, helpful and professional. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The location is AWESOME! We enjoy the quietness and seclusion away from the populated west side. Days of reading, sunning, walking the beach, cooling off on the pool. Excellent breakfast starts the days. Romantic dinners after sunset. Full bar available all day. If you want a little entertainment, walk next door to Coconuts tourist bar. Open in the afternoons only (closes before dark). Have a cold beer and watch the cruise ship tourist come and go. Remember before arrival: If you taxi out, get the driver’s number and agree on a pick up date and time. There are no passing taxis. WhatsApp the driver the night prior to departure for confirmation. All rooms (except treehouse) face the sea and receive a good breeze. While a little more $, we enjoy the lower rooms (1-8) as they step out to the sandy decks with sun beds. Bring a lot of sunscreen.

Just got home from our 3 night stay and we have nothing but amazing things to say about the property, location and service!
We stayed in room 24 the room was beautifully decorated and very functional. Plenty of storage and both the ceiling fan and ocean breeze helped keep temperatures cool. Unfortunately it was a bright full moon the entire stay so we missed out on seeing a sky full of stars but next time for sure. The daily included breakfast (when booking direct) was a wonderful way to start the day as was the coffee station set up downstairs in the common area by 7am. The menus had a variety and something for everyone. The bed was comfy and filtered water was delivered daily, although we stopped at a store on the way from the airport to pick up a few water bottles and beer. Service was outstanding and grounds were kept well maintained.
While this was our first visit to VAM, this will for sure not be our last.

We love the words used to describe Ventanas, even we’ve tried several times. There aren’t any! We go all the way back to 2005 and the days of Coco and room #1 being a 2-story. Back then we’d spend days all alone. The setting is unmatched anywhere. Ventanasalmar doesn’t compete with it, it compliments it. Its little idiosyncrasies are welcomed. Charm, beauty & patina. We’re amazed how well everything is kept….in such a harsh environment. This go around we divided our 2 weeks between the Tree House and old #1. The Tree House. OH MY!. A complete different perspective of the property/landscape. The room and SHOWER to die for! Access is the spiral stairs (from the days of room #1) genius! Though we could go on & on……..we’ll do it again next year.

My wife and I have stayed at Ventanas al Mar for years now, and we will keep coming back. We love it. It is quiet, rustic, beautiful, and peaceful.
The rooms are all comfortable and have amazing views of the Caribbean blue water (we recommend the lower level rooms so you can step out onto the sand). The staff is long-tenured and have always been so so good to us. The food and drinks are tasty and unpretentious. Some recent upgrades like the mattresses and the interior lighting have really made it perfect.
You will need a car, or just commit to a very relaxing stay at the hotel — it’s about a 20-25 minute drive to the core of downtown. And this place is not for loud partying and drinking — if you’re into that, there are far better places on the island for you. This is for people that appreciate quiet, serenity, and the beauty of Cozumel.
To Miguel, Omar, Nikol, Dalia and all the other people who work so hard to make our stay perfect, gracias and thank you!

I hesitate to write this review because part of me doesn't want anyone to know about Ventanas al Mar so we can keep this place all to ourselves! My husband and I came here for a long weekend. This was a last minute trip and to be honest, Ventanas al Mar was not our first choice, we ended up booking here because the small hotel we were looking at on the west side was full. And I am so glad it was! Otherwise we never would've experienced how wonderful Ventanas al Mar is! We were looking for peaceful, quiet, relaxation and that is exactly what we found. We loved it so much, we are planning on returning next January. If you are looking for a typical Mexico all inclusive type resort, this is NOT your place!
We had a superior room on the first level. It was a spacious room that had a small patio that looked right out to the ocean. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It appears as though the room had recently been updated/decorated, except the bathroom which looked original. The bathroom area was small--single sink, toilet, and small shower. I believe some of the other room types have bigger showers or bathtubs if that is a concern for you. For us, this worked just fine. The only downfall to the room was that there was no mini fridge in the room. Again, I believe there are other room styles that do include a mini fridge, I didn't realize this when booking. It would've been nice to have an area to keep water bottles or other beverages cool. There is only AC available from 8p-8a (which is stated on their website) because the hotel runs on a generator. Even with this, our room was always comfortable because of the breeze off the ocean.
The common areas are beautiful. A small restaurant/bar is right next to a cute pool. There is no fighting over pool or beach loungers here! The beach when we were there was not swimmable because of the waves.
The food was good. The drinks were good. The afternoon margaritas and guac by the pool were the best! They will serve you down by the beach too. Be aware the food/drink prices are higher than what we found in other areas of the island. There is also a bar next door called Coconuts. Everything on the east side of Cozumel closed around 7pm. And it is dark! No street lights. Because of this we had our dinners at the hotel.
The staff! Very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The staff work hard to keep the hotel looking nice and this does not go unnoticed. On our first night, we had an issue with our patio door not locking, but this staff immediately fixed this for us.
Helpful info...book through their own website or call them to book, do not use third party booking sites like Expedia. If you book directly through them, the stay includes complimentary breakfast. We did not know this and had booked through Delta. Make sure to pick up bottled water on your way to the hotel--it will be cheaper. Don't be scared by some of the reviews that state the beach area is full of garbage. The area around the hotel the beach is clean. Further down, you will find washed up plastic and such--but this is not the hotel's fault, blame your fellow humans for this.

This was my second stay at Ventanas al Mar, and it was just as lovely as I remembered. If you're looking to unwind in a peaceful and quiet spot, this is the place to go. It's on the Eastern side of the island, which means it's the only hotel nearby. The hotel itself is set right on the beach, with most rooms perched on a small cliff over the ocean. The views are spectacular! It also means you get the wind coming off the waves, keeping your room cool -- essential since you only have access to AC during the night. The hotel also has a pool and a restaurant on site. We can't wait to return.

This is a very quiet and beautiful hotel! We have always stayed at all inclusives when we go to Mexico, but I’m glad we tried this. We stayed in the “romance” room with the bathtub. Of the 22 rooms they have, make sure you stay in the main drag and not the treehouses. Each of the 16 that face the ocean are the nicest and most luxurious. You can also hear the ocean as you sleep.
The restaurant on site is reasonably priced, but I wouldn’t say the food is exceptional. We stayed over New Year’s Eve and they threw a wonderful party with a live band, dinner and a piñata filled with free stays if you were fast enough to grab it.
The hot water was ample when no one was using it- however during peak times it was impossible to get a hot shower. The wifi was the same way. There is NO SERVICE here and the wifi was spotty at best. When we left this morning, there was no wifi at all. Do not plan to take work calls here- you will have to go into town for that.
There is a great walking path that goes about 20 miles north to south that passes right in front of the hotel. Nikol was very sweet & called a rental company for us to get bikes and ride to some of the shops nearby.
DONT GO to coconuts next door. It’s a huge tourist trap, extremely overpriced food, and just mediocre quality. We paid $70 for a burger, guacamole and beef tacos.
In fact- don’t plan on going to any of the restaurants on the east side. They are ridiculously expensive and not worth it. Plus you get a lot of the cruise traffic.
Definitely rent a car if you can. We rented from Emily Rentals for $45/day. That’s as much as some will charge you for a scooter. The hotel is 30 minutes from the airport and town so if you plan to leave and don’t want to spend a fortune on taxied, plan on renting a car.
Also, because this hotel is on the east side of the island, the wind is always very strong. If you’re a cold natured person like me, plan to bring some long pants and a wind breaker for dinners on the patio.
Otherwise the staff couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. This is not a luxury hotel, but if you’re looking for a relaxing get away from everything, this is the spot.

Overall good food, nice time and polite staff. This place could use some more TLC, with the rooms being updated and hiring a staff member to pick up the plastic garbage right next to the hotel on the sand area. I didn't have a good night sleep for some reason. It just wasn't "comfortable." I also didn't go into the pool. However I did enjoy the location and listening to the waves.

We’ll never stay anywhere else in Cozumel. The service was absolutely outstanding!! Thank you to Miguel, Esteban, and Omar. The view is to die for. This hotel is pretty remote as it is on the "Wild Side" of Cozumel. But, we rented a car so we had transportation. The hotel serves delicious meals! No need to go anywhere else. The hosts Omar and Esteban were absolutely THE BEST!! They were so sweet and helpful . The pool is very quiet (not busy) and well kept with several ledges to sit on and soak up the sun. Our room was large and comfortable. The housekeeping staff was extremely good. The only thing we could say that would make it better would be if they redid the bathroom. It was clean and sufficient, just not very modern. One thing to note - there is no air conditioning from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. That was not a problem while we were there as there was always a steady breeze. We would definitely stay there again and again.

Off the grid and on the uninhabited east side of the island. Small boutique hotel with restaurant, bar, pool and beach. If you want quiet and relaxing. That’s all there is to do here. Aside from Coconuts tourist bar nearby, there’s nothing for a few miles in any direction. Very limited cell and internet service. To conserve electricity, the hotel controls the air conditioners. During our visit, it was only available from 10p-6a. But we had moderate temps and always a breeze. I’m not sure I’d try here in the summers. Rooms and hotel were very clean and comfortable. Service staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Food was excellent with many choices, great portions and prices and great taste. Only open for breakfast and dinner. But, if you need lunch or want to be around a lot of people, Coconuts (closes at dark) is a 75m walk. We’ll definitely be back!

We stayed here for six nights on our first visit to the island and we will definitely return to Ventanas Al Mar. Miguel, Omar, Esteban and the entire staff made us feel so welcome! We stayed in room 21 with a beautiful view is the sunrise every morning and the crashing waves with a sea breeze. We enjoyed the food as well, eating many of our meals here during our stay. There is no television or booming dance music. If you want a relaxing stay on the shores of the Atlantic where you are welcomed like family, look no further.
We had no issues with the wifi here, but we only used it for email, etc. The AC worked well the only two nights we needed it. Filtered water is provided daily in a carafe and bottled water can be purchased.
