Occidental Cozumel

We loved this resort. If you want a place to relax ,a retreat. This is great. The food, service ,dinners, were great. The beach was beautiful. Small but okay. We love decks when we go. Unfortunately no deck to sit out on in the evening, but wouldn’t stop us from coming back. Otherwise this place is beautiful ,quiet. Ocean water is great for swimming. Enjoyed watching the boats and cruise ships going by. The road out of the resort is excellent for walking. We met wonderful people here and will definitely be back .

Reviews on this property were mixed, but it was in our price range for our family so we took a chance. I was impressed with this resort. Very nice property that is well managed and maintained. The rooms were great. Nice size and clean! Buffets were okay to good, but all 3 restaurants were excellent! The pool and beach area was wonderful, although hard to get beach chairs. The best thing about this property were the people! The staff was all so friendly and accommodating! We would definitely stay here again!

Once again a great stay at Occidental. It’s been a little sad to lose some of our favourite Occidental Employees and having some of our favourites moved about has been disappointing but meeting the new ones and getting to know them was fun. Ana and Juan Carlos made our dining experience super enjoyable. The spa treatments with Erika and Lizeth were other worldly. We enjoyed the usual warm welcome from Odalys and Alejandra and they took care of of scheduling our dining for us. I totally recommend this resort

Another great time at Occidental Grand Cozumel in the Royal club. Greeted as returning guests by Jesus, Johnny and Gabriel as we got out of the shuttle upon arrival. Odalys and Alejandra greeted us warmly at Royal concierge and took care of all our needs(check in and dining reservations). The staff at the spa were great for our massages and facials during our stay. From being greeted, to the actual services they were excellent. Thanks to Erika, Lizeth and Yaderi. They are like our family to us. Our restaurant staff at La Carreta were excellent, personable and family to us as well. Thank you to Carlos, Lupe, Armando and Claudia for the laughs. Also to the new captains Anna and Juan Carlos to make our stay special. Also to Sergio, Miguel and Luis at Coral restaurant for our lovely dinners overlooking the ocean. Some of the staff at the resort has changed and while we miss the people who have recently left, we appreciate the new staff for making our stay special. We love the people at this resort and have booked again at this resort for December 2026 and February 2027.

Overall had a great week at this resort. Many of the reviews I have read are correct: - they staff is awesome, particularly at the restaurants, they really try to give you a great experience - the grounds are very nice and well kept - you have only the buffet option for breakfast an lunch (unless you book Royal) - food at the buffet is just okay, very repetitive if you eat there every day, - A la carte restaurants were overall good (Mexican was the best for us, followed by Italian, then seafood). - you must wake up early to get a chair in the shade (7am) - entertainment at the resort is minimal and not good, bring your own fun. - Beach isn't huge but was bigger than the reviews made it seem. Also since you are on the West coast of Cozumel we didn't get any waves (sometimes really bad in Cancun causing some people to be unable to swim). I knew all this going in so we were prepared and had a great time. Very relaxing vacation.

This was our second time at Occidental, but first as a dive getaway. The food continues to be subpar. It’s too bad because that is its only downfall. The grounds are beautiful. The beach is the best on the island (maybe add a few chairs and available umbrellas). Rooms are what is expected. Our dive experience was perfect. A bit overcrowded a few times on the boat, but we do not mind an active boat ride. Guides were cool and well versed on each dive site. Operation ran smoothly. Fun group. If you dive with your own equipment, ask for Ricardo to clean and dry your gear after your final dip. His work is well worth the tip you provide. Highly recommend his service. Stay away from the constant badgering to sit in on their timeshare opportunities, pack a few snacks and you should enjoy the Occidental.

Our second visit to Cozumel was fantastic. The weather showed a lot of rain, but it was usually only 5 minutes then fantastically sunny. There is less Sargasso here than other areas. The nature, birds, fish and Landscape was amazing to see and hear. The snorkeling was pretty acceptable right off the beach, and a short boat trip to spectacular reefs nearby. West facing sunsets over the water, with clear dark night skies made for a lovely setting. Thank you Crisly and Melchior for great food service.

Great stay! We’d be happy to come back again. Highlights include the food (both the buffets and the a la cartes), the beach with super easy access to the water (no rocks!), chill vibe and the luxurious grounds. Give the landscaping team a raise! A few points to clarify from earlier review: 1. Hot water is plentiful, once you realize it’s on an on demand system. So counter intuitively you start on the colder side and let it run for 30 seconds to get to blazing hot. Unfortunately, we believed earlier reviews so for a couple days thought we had no hot water. 2. We were provided with 3 a la carte dinner reservations for a week stay (with WestJet). And we weren’t part of the Royal upgrade. Go to the seafood resto early to catch the sunset - spectacular! 3. House wine is serviceable Spanish (white a Chard/Semillon blend, red a Grenache). You can splash out on others but be sure to leave your credit card deposit at reception in advance to avoid difficulties. Overall, just a great all around stay.

Beautiful small resort, it was our second time there and we will go again. Buffet has a large selection of food, as well as the beach restaurant for lunch. I wasn’t a fan of the Italian restaurant but that’s just me, still a lovely experience. Mexican & Coral restaurants were very good. Sunsets at Coral are breathtaking. Beach is clean and water is beautiful. Staff is very friendly , room was cleaned excellently every day . Fridge was restocked everyday with water, beer and pop.
