The hotel is completely without charm. It is basically a convention center.
We stayed for 8 days as part of our planned tour of Panama.
The hotel is dissapointing in so many ways. some issues:
Several restaurants were permanently closed and other only open on weekends
the restaurants looked more like a preschool cafeteria
The main dining room we were pointet to on arrival suddenly changed without warning. We complained that no advise had been given after which we received a letter daily where to dine- but it was wrong several times.
The cafeteria where we were supposed to dine changed the theme daily - but the food remained the same- very booring food.
The beef tenderloin was cooked so it was bone dry and same with all port. The fish casserole did not look appetising at all.
we lived on saladbar basically for lunch and dinner
Several bars are permanently closed incl. the swim up bar
there is only one bar open in the daytime and it is closed at lunch from 12 noon until 2;30 pm.
There are no cushions on the tanning beds which are very uncomfortable.
We recommend that you stay in Panama City which we did for 5 days and that was great.

We chose the day pass for the resort so this review is specifc to the day pass. First we were advised to book with the hotel directly, which we attempted. It became very difficult walking through the prompts on the automated answering. Finally I decided to just ask for the front desk, and that was helpful.
One good thing about the day pass is that it includes some alcholic drinks, though the bartender said the yellow wristband for the day pass that day did not include everything.
It was nice to have access to the beach and the pools. There were about 5 different pools. One of them had a water aerobics class that looked fun but was a bit loud.
It comes with food and the selection was decent but I would describe it as good/mediocre.

We stayed last year at the Westin and chose to stay here again this year as we were stopping over for almost a week prior to heading to Chile. We arrived very, very early from our incoming flight and were crossing our fingers for a very, very early check-in. I walked in and we had our high floor, ocean view room within minutes!! This was a great start as even though we were tired we literally had a first full day of vacation. We were all settled into our room etc., and were at our pool chairs at 09:00 a.m. This first part of the trip was simply about relaxing - we have seen and did everything we wanted to do last year so we did not even venture off the property.
Last year we came at the same time and the resort was way more busier than compared to this year..........which was great! There were tons of pool chairs available wherever/whenever you wanted them. It was nice and relaxing with very few kids too. As Marriott Plat members we had access to the club lounge which we used everyday for breakfast and evening snacks and drinks! The lounge also did not seem as busy as last year.
We had exemplary service in the evenings from Marilyn. She went over and above for us to make us feel like valued guests! She definitely kept our wine glasses filled.
As an old SPG member and now Marriott member, I know that Marriott has diluted the services in a lot properties but it is nice to see this club lounge still part of the Westin Playa Bonita. It honestly is the only reason we stayed here so they are making money off of us because of the lounge. I do find the point values for any redemptions are also having negative value.
Thanks for the great room and service! If things do not change here the Westin will continue to receive our business.
btw. Weather was fantastic every single day!

Great place! But maybe make dinner reservations off the resort.

We stayed 6 nights here at the end of January to the beginning of February 2025. We really enjoyed our stay. We were promised an ocean view, which we didn't get because apparently they were over booked. I was mildly annoyed about that until I saw the rainforest view from the 11th floor balcony. It was incredible!
The pool area wasn't crowded during the week but filled up on the weekend.
Service around the resort was great. We enjoyed the music in the lobby bar on a couple of evenings.
The food was awesome! We had a la carte meals every night except one. The Asian (sushi!) and steak house were both very, very good! We had lunch a la carte as well and breakfast most days at the Starfish Grill. It was usually quiet there and quite fast.
The room was large and clean and the beds were so, so comfortable!
The beach was interesting to me. You could swim in the ocean but not until late afternoon because the tide was out in the morning. I've never seen so many shells on a beach, either. When the tide was out you could walk a long way down from the resort and so we did a couple of times. All day long you can see ships lined up, waiting to cross the canal. That in itself makes the view from this resort unique. You can't see that everywhere!
I would recommend this resort for anyone who wants a clean, relaxing and enjoyable place to stay.

Having never been to Panama previously, I am sorry that I picked this hotel for my first visit.
Firstly I would not consider it all-inclusive. We were not allowed in most restaurants and fed hot dogs and hamburgers every day for lunch.
After returning home, I learned through much questioning that there is a 2-tier all-inclusive system and that we could have upgraded but we were NEVER provided that option.
The pools didn't ever seem to be cleaned. Most of the restaurants are closed and are used for Conference people only.
There is a Swim-up bar however it is only open Friday - Sunday. The pool staff are phenomenal. And the lovely woman that greeted us for breakfast every day was delightful!
The rest of the staff was questionable. Most were not overly friendly.
The store in the hotel is hit and miss, we were never quite sure when it would close.
You are not supplied water or pop in your room, you have to ask for it at the bar if you would like some.
Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. However, trying to get fresh towels seemed to be a bit a problem.
Overall I would not stay here again, which is sad because I usually like the Westin brand.

Very very good. Beautiful location food was excellent. Room was clean and comfortable. Panama City was easy to get to using UBER. We did have an issue with a tour we booked through sunwing, But they rectified it. Highly recommend. Hotel was relatively quiet. There was never an issue getting an a la carte. Do know that there is a large tide. The ocean is swimmable in the afternoon. if you are looking for a party beach vacation this isn't it. If you want a beautiful hotel with easy access to Panama City and surrounding things to see it's perfect.

The hotel, rated five stars, does not truly meet expectations; at best, it deserves a four-star rating.
The location is good, situated right on the beach. However, cleanliness is a concern: plastic caps, cans, and other trash are scattered around, indicating the beach is not cleaned regularly. The swimming pool also appeared dirty due to debris brought in from the patchy grassy areas surrounding it.
The all-inclusive option does not cover all restaurants. At the coffee shop, we were told on the first day that only coffee and ice cream were included—not pastries. Two days later, ice cream was no longer included, and on the third day, we were informed that the coffee shop wasn’t part of the all-inclusive package at all. This inconsistent information was both confusing and frustrating.
At the Starfish Grill à la carte restaurant, we reserved a table for dinner, but the manager insisted we had to pay. The front desk confirmed that the restaurant was included in our package, but we got the impression the manager was trying to take advantage of us. It’s hard to believe he didn’t know the restaurant was part of the all-inclusive plan.
The TV in our room didn’t work, and we repeatedly asked the front desk to have it fixed over six days. Initially, they neglected to mention that we needed to be present when maintenance came. Even when we stayed in the room waiting, no one showed up.
The bathroom sink was another issue; it took four days of daily complaints before maintenance finally resolved the problem.

we had a good and relaxing time. overall very happy with our stay - the All Inclusive plan is definitely to be recommended. the only reason I do not give 5*, is that the hotel is a bit dated (lights in the room blinking, toilet running constantly) and some of the staff members need a bit better training (e.g. housekeeping needed a reminder every other day to replenish coffee pods, and a few staff members were outright rude... Edilsa at the front desk was directly impolite, didn't even bother to look at me when I spoke to her on two separate days).
