within minutes walk. The room was also well equipped, the highlight being the Aesop toiletries and a very comfy bed. However, the rooms are not double glazed and ours looked onto the neighbouring church whose bells chimed every quarted hour ! I think they stopped during the night thankfully. Also there was no hot water until 8am, whih when leaving for early pick ups for excursions was not good. The pool beds were always soakin wet and not enough of them. However the main reason for not returning or recommending was the complete apathy of the staff. The desk staff were fine, but it took us over an hour to achieve a very simple breakfast in the dining room. Again, when trying o get out for an excusrion this is hopeless. When it eventualy arrived the food was good though.

Beautiful, traditional hotel in the center of the Casco Viejo. Unbeatable location. Walking distance to everything. Attentive staff. Amazing views from our top floor room. Comfortable bed, soft sheets. I do have to mention that we had an issue with the hot water temperature in the shower. It was boiling hot, but maintenance came and took care of it right away. And, I would be remiss if I didn't mention being woken up every thirty minutes starting at 6am (possibly earlier) by the tolling of the bells of all the churches that surround the property, so if you want to sleep in, maybe consider staying somewhere else.

Great location in walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Staff very friendly, unfortunately I do not remember the name of the nice maintenance man who helped my husband with his bag. Rooms are comfortable but bathroom towel rack was broken. Beds very comfortable and sheets were luxurious. Our room was on the 1st floor, faced lovely view of church and colonial buildings with beautiful bougainvilleas. Yes the church bell ringing sound in the morning did not bother us since we are early risers. We had cocktails at the bar and breakfast in restaurant both did not disappoint. We liked the small hotel feel and personal attention we received.

While staying in Casco Viejo, we stopped in The American Trade Hotel for lunch. We ordered The Burrata cheese/ arugula/blueberry salad, the potato soup with croutons and the shrimp tacos. There were only a few other guests there.
It took 45 minutes to get our lunch.
The potato soup was lukewarm, the croutons were mushy and the soup had sat so long it had a film over it.
The salad didn’t have any blueberries and the cheese wasn’t burrata , it was mozzarella. The shrimp tacos were awful. The tortilla couldn’t decide if it was crisp or soft. It was just stale and couldn’t be bitten. The shrimp was so overcooked it was rubbery.
All in all, a terrible experience. We will not return.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel while taking a stop over in Panama City. We wanted to stay in Casco Viejo and the location of this hotel can't be beat! It's situated in a central square in Casco Viejo with all the sights within easy walking distance. There are lots of restaurants, cafes, etc scattered everywhere. The front desk staff was very helpful and gave us recommendations for restaurants and answered all our questions about visiting the canal, etc. Our room had a small balcony with a beautiful view of the square and beyond. The restaurants around can get a little noisy at night, but they didn't interfere with our sleep. Bed was extremely comfortable and size of the room was adequate too. We had breakfast included in our rate, which was a set menu, with some choices. Plenty to eat! Staff was very good in the restaurant too. My only slight suggestion for the management would be to not have the lobby and restaurant area not so cold. The air-conditioning was a little excessive, but not a big problem. We would love to return to this hotel!

This is world class luxury at a very affordable price! Things I loved:
Aesop products in the bathroom
Concierge and bellhop services
Classy library
Hotel bar reminds me of old school class
Small pool but it does the trick on a hot sunny day. Charge your pool drinks to your room.
Casco viejo is the only neighborhood to stay in! All the restaurants and bars we wanted to go to were a five minute walk away.
Housekeeping every day
Robes
Excellent hotel sheets and snug comforter
Firm mattress
High ceilings
Beautiful decor
Minor downsides:
Water temperature in the shower was finicky. One day, it was scalding hot and wouldn’t get cool again. Another day it was only lukewarm. But the other two days it was perfect.
The rooftop bar across the plaza can get quite loud on Friday nights. Music was bumping til 2am making it hard to sleep.
I would come back and stay here again in a heartbeat!

Staff were outstanding -every staff member including Estetania, Aldahir, Genesis, Mavis and many other. Arturo the doorman was great (please watch the movie with Goldie Hawn Overboard) The pool location and temperature were just right. The hotel was right on the main square and 300 feet away was our Starbucks where we loved all the staff. Our vacation would not have been excellent had it not be for the amazing service and facilities at this hotel. Steve n Mike Toronto

The service at the restaurant in American Trade Hotel was both professional and welcoming. I opted for Eggs Benedict with a twist, substituting the usual bread toast for Panamanian yuca toast, and it was absolutely amazing! They accommodated my request graciously, which was greatly appreciated. The ambiance of the restaurant is stunning, evident even in the provided pictures.
Our main reason for visiting was the promise of a Flat White on the menu. However, the coffee fell short of expectations; it leaned more towards a latte, and the flavor was somewhat marred by a hint of burnt taste, surprising for Panama, renowned for its exceptional coffee plantations.
Despite this minor setback, the experience overall was well worth it.

We were in Panama City and stayed here 5 days and 4 nights. This hotel was just beautiful and in the literal best location in Casco Viejo. Within steps of everything you want to tour, visit, eat, etc. The interior design, beds, shower (including water pressure!), and the food were all 5-star level. The pool was warm and well appointed. Everyone was extremely hospitable and warm. One thing to note, it’s a relaxed culture, so the staff gives space to do your thing. But when we needed anything, all we needed was to ask and they were all over it. We will be staying here on our next visit.

During my visit to the American Trade Hotel, I had breakfast at its cafeteria.
The ambiance of the place was quite inviting, but the overall dining experience fell short of my expectations.
The service was notably lackluster, appearing understaffed or poorly managed, which affected our experience. Not to mention the attitude the waiter had…very unappealing.
The food quality didn't help either. We received insufficient butter for our toast, and the bread itself was of poor quality. Furthermore, the coffee was surprisingly basic for such an establishment, where one might expect options like an espresso machine.
I hope this feedback encourages improvements in both service and culinary offerings or for you to choose another place where to go.
Also: they are NOT gay friendly
