But this hotel has serious issues with communication, housekeeping and maintenance.
Four emails to different recipients prior to arrival remained unanswered a phone call to reservations with a request for a certain room location was not granted due to missing communication within the hotel.
The cottage itself was in a condition unacceptable for a hotel in the 600$ league. A closet door that did not close, filthy old carpet in bedroom, the fireplace glass so stained that we could feel the heat but barely see a flame and a bathroom so dirty that we asked to have
additional thorough cleaning.
After this additional cleaning the sticky light switch, the mirror and the floor were cleaned but limescale on shower door , brownish shower tub discoloration and toothpaste and/or soap stains on cabinets remained for three days.
I had higher expectations in this hotel brand but have the feeling that quite a few of the Marriott chain properties are heading this way.

We arrived here as a large group to attend a family wedding in a Winery nearby. Between the ten of us, we booked five rooms. Two couples got their room in the main building, the other two got theirs in the building across from the parking lot, and we had our larger cottage in the back part, behind the swimming pool.
We did not see the other people’s rooms, but our room was fairly large with a King Bed, a cozy sitting area, a fireplace, a little open balcony outside and a huge spacious Bathroom that contained some really nice, spa-quality amenities, plus soft bath robes in the closet. We were on the second floor, and it was quiet and peaceful there.
Our statuses gave us food credits at Benicia’s Kitchen for all the rooms, but given our busy schedule, we were only able to use those for Breakfast on the first morning. We left before they opened on the other days. We had dinner on our first night at Wit and Wisdom which was very nice.
We received exemplary service from all the staff members. The Bellman was especially helpful to us holding the door open while we were lugging items for the wedding, brought us a cart as we were unloading, and greeted us pleasantly every time we crossed paths. The Vintage VW painted Van outside was lovely.
The Grounds were immaculately maintained. Along the walking path, we saw roses and other flowers, pretty wisteria, berry bushes and tons of flowers outside. So pretty…
We loved our three-day stay here, and will definitely return on our next visit to Sonoma.

This property is a perfect get away. I went with just my husband but there are plenty of families here enjoying the resort. Its peaceful.
The property is well maintained and has everything from restaurants, Spa, Pool, daily happy hour, friendly staff.
We are staying in the cottages which are very comfortable in size with a patio, fireplace & everything you might need for your stay.
Benicia’s kitchen is open and has a decent menu with healthy options.
It’s just a mile from the Square & a quick drive to wineries in Napa and Sonoma. The hotel has complimentary transit to and from the Square and bikes available to their guests. Its definitely walkable.
If you are a fan of Marriott properties, I highly recommend. Note: only drawback is the Wit and Wisdom restaurant not open Monday-Wednesday. I’m not sure if that is the case year round.

Wit & Wisdom, on property, was excellent, and enjoyed the breakfast room as well.

I'm saddened to see many of the same complaints from others that I have today. This "Upscale" Marriott property just simply does not rise to the standards and expectations we've known Marriott properties to have. The staff is a huge reason why! Unprofessional attire by most - would expect uniforms or required colors to be worn so guests could identify staff more easily. As the wedding couple, we were not given the room upgrade we requested bc we were told "it wasn't available" yet one of our guests got upgraded to the room we requested. Strange yet attention to detail lacked across the board.
From using the property's event coordinator to paying our final bill A MONTH AFTER THE EVENT, our stay was absolutely subpar. Overcharging, not charging for items, staff arguing about the wine machine having wine in the bottles when the bottle was clearly empty or not dispensing, daily wine tasting - vendors ran out 3 of the 4 days we were in attendance, slow service in hotel restaurant, overpriced drinks and food.
Room lacked storage for clothing - we had to use the bedside table drawers for our things. There is plenty of room for a dresser in all the rooms we saw so hopefully this can be a quick fix for this property.
Again, the staff really disappointed us at this property. I asked for a room to put some flowers together in vases with a couple girlfriends for my wedding and was told "they were all being used and there was no area except for outside to do this." Mind you, it was 86 degrees outside and I was putting together fresh floral arrangements for the next day. They never would have lasted had we been outside. AND, like so many other reviews said, the hotel was not packed nor were all the conference rooms booked. The effort to go above and beyond for a bride to be having her wedding on property was non-existent. The staff had no idea a wedding was even taking place or a wedding party was coming in from out of state to attend. I'll spare more minor details.
Marriott, please take a deeper look into this property and the management of it. It's only as "great" as the people running it.

This is a nice place in so many respects and I might even go back. They do all the big things right. Helpful and friendly staff, cottages are cozy- almost. The furniture and carpet need to be updated and mold in shower, gross. Stains on furniture, fingernails in the carpet in a far corner. I love the autograph collection and normally they do things to the nines. I enjoyed the peace and serenity of property. For the most part everything was clean but some mold and finger nails completely grossed me out. Also they have no towel racks or hooks in the bathroom which I found odd.

Little details say big things
Use the resort fee to get some new pool cushions. Rooms are fine. Staff is great. Little details really do say big things. It is not that hard to refresh the pool cushions when they are literally ripped though and have zero cushion left. Cheers

We spent one night in this hotel. The majority of the rooms are cottages with outside entrances but we stayed in the main building. We were upgraded to a very spacious 1-bedroom suite with a large, separate living room, a fireplace, and a small balcony. One thing the room lacked was blackout curtains or shades of any kind; the only window covering was some white mini blinds, which made for a lot of light in the morning. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was large and very modern.
Dining options are good. We had dinner at Wit & Wisdom, whose menu is curated by chef Michael Mina. It offered elevated comfort food and an extensive wine list. We had breakfast at Benicia's, the on-site bistro, and it was delicious and hearty.
The location is a longish walk from the Sonoma town square, and a little removed from wineries.

Just returned from a very lovely 2 nights at the Sonoma Lodge in a Cottage Suite. Super nice hotel with cottages and rooms spread out like small residences. The entire property is well maintained with beautiful roses and landscaping. We loved the small, private patio area with the sofa and rocker just outside of our room. The pool area is well done, although a few of the loungers had split seams. This was surprising as so many other things were immaculate and well maintained. But overall, nice pool area with plenty of loungers.
The lobby area is gorgeous and my husband enjoyed hanging out there having coffee and catching up on his work emails.
I liked the checkin staff. Very welcoming.
Our room was a little on the darker side - natural light wise, (room 1712), but it was quiet and private so that worked well for us. Bathrooms are big and well appointed.
You have to check out the beautiful 400 yr old oak tree. It’s quite something.
The hotel also has some nice complimentary activities such as yoga and use of bikes that are conveniently parked outside your room! We loved this! We biked all over Sonoma (which has great little bike paths).
We’d return in a heartbeat.
Oh and the spa is nice too. Great massages. Very sweet staff. Whole stay was wonderful.

We enjoyed our stay. We had a junior suite with a fireplace in the room and an outdoor fireplace on the patio (room 512). We loved the outdoor seating area as we had great weather. Did not use the one in the room. There was good space in the room but no dresser per se. The two night stands had drawers but not great for unpacking. The closet was large as was the bathroom. The faucets at the sink were trendy, “x” shaped and the water was super hot, we could never seem to regulate the temperature. Same with the thermostat. It was generally freezing in the room. Even when we put the thermostat to 75, the cold air poured out and kept the room around 68.
Housekeeping always got our room cleaned while we were out - much appreciated.
We loved the property and location - very convenient to wineries in both Sonoma and Napa, lovely Sonoma town center with lots of shops and restaurants. The property is well landscaped and the cottages afford a lot of privacy.
We had our first meal there at Wit & Wisdom, their fine dining offering. It was good, but not outstanding. Service was attentive.
Breakfast was not consistent. We had vouchers due to Marriott status so we ate there most mornings. Benicia’s is the restaurant and it is kind of hidden. No one is at podium to greet and seat so mostly people wander in not sure it if is self seating or not. Breakfast staff needs more training. Sat and waited for water and coffee too long. No one checked on our meals when they were delivered and never offered to refill water or coffees. The second day service was better. I am gluten free and my order was almost always wrong. Avocado toast on gf bread was brought on regular bread. Next day ordered eggs with no potatoes, got potatoes. Sent gf bread back to be re-toasted - they came back with new, barely toasted bread again. In the end a lot of food went to waste which could have been avoided with more attention given. Enjoyed the steel cut oats.
We had our last meal at Benicia’s again, this time dinner. We had an excellent meal of Iberico Pork. Great attentive staff (Sara) and excellent food.
In all, we woukd return to The Lodge at Sonoma and can recommend it.

The rooms are decent size, but the balconies are tiny. Since the doors open out, we had to rearrange the furniture to get it closed again. It is nice to have a daily maid service, especially since they only give you a minimal amount of towels.
The restaurant is pretty good, but table service is just okay. The bar oddly closes at 8:00 PM.
Sleep quality is a bit above average. The hotel is reasonably quiet.
Location is good.

Great choice for a hotel if you are exploring Sonoma!
This hotel is the perfect balance between being active and being completely relaxed. As guests we had access to bikes so we road into Sonoma Plaza to try some wine tastings. The restaurant, Benecia's Kitchen, is outstanding. We even had our own private patio to enjoy.
Noisy and lacking the privacy the website shows
The website makes it look like the backyards are private and quiet. They are not private and they are not quiet. The hedges do not go all the way around so you can see your neighbors, and you can hear people talking in their yards and in the units upstairs....
The website makes it look like the backyards are private and quiet. They are not private and they are not quiet. The hedges do not go all the way around so you can see your neighbors, and you can hear people talking in their yards and in the units upstairs. We could hear sneezing and conversation in the unit upstairs. And we were woken by our upstairs, neighbor’s alarm clock in the morning. We were really seeking peace and quiet in between the noise in the unit units and the noise from the pool, it was not peaceful.
