Nestled within six acres of pristine gardens and fine architecture is where your dreamlike MacArthur Place honeymoon will reveal itself. The hotel was established as a family estate and vineyard more than a century ago, and those family touches are still evident in the farmhouse décor, though luxury is now paramount. Lush canopies and ancient oaks from adjacent Nathanson Creek Preserve create an oasis-like atmosphere that MacArthur Place’s attentive staff work diligently to maintain.
After arriving at the six-acres estate and strolling through the AERENA Sculpture Garden, you’ll be ready to dine at one of the hotel’s three delectable options. Organic ingredients and handcrafted cocktails are specialties, and you’ll be able to enjoy it all in stylish dining rooms, out at the mid-century pool, or in the comfort of your room.
MacArthur Place’s passion for wellness extends far beyond its organic food options, with the hotel having the fully-equipped Spa at MacArthur on site. Couples will notice that the plants being used in the complex treatments are sourced from the facility’s very own garden for an unrivaled ecocentric experience. Signature treatments include the Wildflower Field of Dreams, Healing Stones and Garden Mud, and a Mineral Bath with Essential Oil Massage. There’s no better way to unwind after a wedding than with a fully-pampered spa experience at the sophisticated spa.
A farmhouse style ensures that each one of MacArthur Place’s 64 guestrooms and suites has a peaceful atmosphere where love seems effortless. Rooms feature a plush king-size bed, a European walk-in shower, and a variety of luxury amenities. But the luxury suites and private luxury cottages are where the hotel really embraces tasteful extravagance. From the Victorian-themed fireplace for evening snuggling to the private patio with an outdoor fire pit for enjoying the beautiful Sonoma weather, romance is always in the air. And that’s before considering the outdoor shower; simply an enchanting experience that ignites the senses. I stayed at MacArthur Place for my 40th birthday. I’ve always wanted to go to California wine country, and this place exceeded my expectations. The property is beautiful, and the rooms were great too. From check-in to check-out, the service was amazing. Housekeeping went above and beyond when they cleaned our room when we were out wine tasting. We ate at restaurants all over, and Layla on the property was amazing as everything else in the area. If you are not sure about where to stay, I actually prefer Sonoma to Napa if your plans are still open. It has much more of a small town feel. I definitely hope to go back.

We were greeted at the front desk with a glass of wine by Michael who told us our room was ready. Each guest in our room finds a robe and slippers there. Our floor was on the second floor. If you don’t like steps, be sure to mention this when you book. If you do like to walk, you can walk to Sonoma Plaza. Just know that the streets are not well lit, so return before nightfall. We walked back only once in the dark and drove the other time we were to return in the dark. The sidewalks are not all even.
The physical grounds of the Macarthur have lovely art works scattered around as they have a visiting artist program. There are even works of art in the main building where the Lounge and Layla’s are located.
Michael, at the front desk, was very helpful with suggestions regarding food. One place we went to, Boon Fly Café, was closed due to a rolling blackout due to the red flag warnings. Maybe next time. We did have lunch at a pizza place suggested by Michael called Jacob’s Restaurant. It was good.
Debra, the concierge at MacArthur was also very helpful. We corresponded by email a few months before I got there. She suggested a few places to have dinner which allowed me to make reservations in them before they booked up.
On one day we returned to our room after 3:00pm so that we could get ready for a couples massage. The spa is located by the outdoor pool. We had dinner in their bar area as on that day they have Burgers and Bordeaux. We liked the wine they served so much; we went the next day to the winery that made it.
On the last night there we had a great meal at Layla’s, and we took the complimentary smores kits they offer. We used one of their fire pits. It was a great outdoor experience.
The only down part of the hotel stay was the room had high tech switches. The heat kept going off at night because of some sensor issue. We called Maintenance, but they could not fix it. We just bundled up our last night there.

This was our 1st trip to the beautiful Sonoma. We stayed at Macarthur Hotel and Spa, this a stunning resort style accomodation. The rooms are a generous with a lovely bathroom, we also had an outdoor shower and bath. Amenities in the bathroom are a generous size and great quality. The gardens are immaculate, it feels like you on a resort away from the rest of the world. Has a gorgeous heated pool with enough lounge chairs, a hot spa, towels, sunblock and ice water. They have a spa and restaurant onsite. We did try and get a massage but unfortunately they were booked. If you do stay here, I would recommend booking in advance. Our rate included breakfast which was very convenient for us. The concierge recommended great dinner restaurants. We did dine at Layla one evening. We felt the vegetarian pasta could have been better. Overall it was one of the prettiest accomodation we have stayed at.
