Reviews of The Buenaventura Golf & Beach Resort Panama
Paradise resort. Loved every minute of it. Hubby loved the golf course while I relaxed at one of the many pools or calm and peaceful beach. Room with gorgeous view was amazing. Service is great. Only thing I would suggest is to have some nightly music and dancing.
A little paradise 90 minutes drive from Panama City
Loved it. But stating just that makes little sense for the reader and certainly does not qualify as a review. This place is a little paradise in so many ways. The hotel itself is in perfect shape - rarely seen a resort in a tropical climate kept that well. We...
Loved it. But stating just that makes little sense for the reader and certainly does not qualify as a review. This place is a little paradise in so many ways. The hotel itself is in perfect shape - rarely seen a resort in a tropical climate kept that well. We used our SNAs and got a Buenaventura Suite overlooking the resort with its ponds and pools from the 3rd floor (top floor) - very nice view indeed and you could see the ocean on the horizon. The suite itself was very spacious and extended onto a nice size balcony in one of the two rooms. Very nice and spacious bathroom including jacuzzi tub, walk-in shower and two wash basins. Bedding - great quality. Appliances all worked. WLAN signal strong and relialbe most of the time. The the soft factors: very professional housekeeping - they defently outperform many of their peers. Breakfast: besides the great quality of produce, very attentive staff that also kept our outside table reserved as of our 2nd day (out of 8). Always friendly, always efficient. Pool bar: good team as well - all of them and every day. The Tai Kai - on-site Japanese restaurant - probably the best Teppanyaki experience outside of Japan we ever had. Pool and pool deck - well maintained and regularly cleaned by staff (several times per day). Reception: effective and friendly even when havign to deal with our room not being ready for check-in yet at 3pm - offered a drink at the bar and the customer is happy. About the surroundings: we rented a car (in Panama City and also drove there) and used it to go for a dinner a few times and did some shopping as we wanted to take home some local specialities. Whislt the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle within the premise (that we did not use), I would recommend a small rental car to simply be flexible and explore a bit more than just the Buenventura gated premise. Also, last but not least, great that the warm water problem was fixed swiftly after two days of cold and sometimes luke-warm water only. We plan on returning for another week of beach vacation sometimes next year.

There was initially a problem with our first room, but Daniel apologized profusely and upgraded our room! I shared with folks that I discussed this trip with, that, this is how a resort should handle issues.
I'm looking forward to staying here again when I return to the area later this year.

I know Marriott is trying to expand their footprint, but buy quality hotels rather than trying to be in every market in the world. Locally this may be a good hotel, but to Marriott worldwide standard this is a bottom level Select level hotel by service standards. The Buenaventura suite is disappointing to the pictures. Large in size but the furnishings are basic. The bed is lot a typical luxury grade at this level and transfers motion for people who toss & turn. Bathroom is large, but shower nozzles are clogged and not fully functional. Maintenance on the room has been lacking and the heavy curtains hung on a regular rod are too heavy to slide and keep falling off. Thermostat resets when you leave the room to a warmer temperature. But that offsets the lack of warm water for showers. It's nice in the afternoon after being in the sun, but annoying when waking up.
Room service and housekeeping are also lacking. Just to get a bucket of ice too over an hour in the off season. Housekeeping at a luxury resort is only done if you call the desk to request it for a 6 day stay. And things were lightly cleaned. For the ice requested we also had to ask for the dirty smudged drinking glasses to be replaced. This caused an issue with the maid and we just got more dirty glasses. There's a small market on grounds that is well stocked and we suggest getting any food or drink ware for the room from there.
About the resort itself you will find it is a very family oriented facility with loud young kids throughout the areas and all pools. The grounds are nice and well maintained. Except for some trash floating in the ponds. The pools are nice if you go early or late to avoid the families.
The majority of the restaurants are average food. We had breakfasts, lunches, and dinners there. Screaming kids are a theme again at breakfast. The staff is slow, but eventual, to get you a coffee or a cocktail at the pool. It's a buffet so you can get what you want. The Criollo is boring average food, Tagua was good tapas and a solid bartender, Cacao bartender didn't know what an Old Fashioned was, Palapa bar had good attentive staff, Tai Kai Sushi was also very good with attentive staff. We ate at the beach pool and the food that came from El Faro was just ok. We had dinner reservations one night and they cancelled them 5 hours before dinner with no reason. It motivated us to go into Panama City to Makoto lucky for us. We stayed at the Sortis in the city for a couple nights even thought we already paid for the disappointing Buenaventura.
Our advice is if you want beach, go to another of the resorts at one of the larger beach destinations in Panama.

When you live in Panama City, sometimes you just need a break in a excellent hotel with a nice beach. This hotel offers you all the comfort you need in a beautiful setting. Don't miss the Teppanyaki restaurant, horseback riding on the beach at sunset, the amazing breakfast buffet in the morning or some relaxation at the SPA.
In addition, we were blessed with the exceptional service of all the staff, but I must highlight the kindness and professionalism of the receptionist, Ms. Viamca Alema. Thank you!

Absolutely Magnificent! Pools upon pools upon pools, all leading to the Pacific Ocean with a lovely beach. Luxurious rooms, friendly, accommodating staff. Enjoyed our first golf lesson. Especially loved the 100+ year old tree that stands in the courtyard of the complex. We went during low season, so it was nearly empty, and very relaxing. There were some children of all ages who seemed to be enjoying themselves but not disturbing the tranquility of the place.
