My husband and I have thought about staying here for a few years, but always stayed on the beach. We finally did it this year and Tensing Pen did not disappoint!! We loved everything about it. All the staff were wonderful and some were even entertaining! Razor and Damien, the bartenders, were a major reason we stayed here as we had been to the bar over the years. Their service and drinks are the best we have had! We had family drinks and dinner at their bar and restaurant the week before we stayed, and Damien was a highlight for all. We had been to the bar previously and met Razor. He was one of the reasons we booked here. Paul, the lifeguard, is also a great part of Tensing Pen. He is so kind and will take you on a snorkeling tour. The atmosphere was exactly what we needed after spending time on a family trip with our adult children. The quiet and beautiful environment was perfect. We are definitely planning to return next year!

Without question, I believe the best option available, from arrival to departure you are surrounded by a staff that only cares about your happiness, accommodations are fabulous and the atmosphere cannot be beat !!!!!

At first glance, I wanst sure about Tensing Pen. It is unassuming and not fancy at all. By the afternoon, I was totally in love, at home and enjoying every second of our trip. The staff are like family, the rooms, even though old school in decor are so cozy and large. I loved the Jamaican coffee and real coffee pot and really anything we needed was brought straight to us. The resort has a vibe..it's hard to explain, but you truly never want to leave. I think it is one of the most relaxing trips I have ever had and we cannot wait to go back. It's surrounds are stunning and we loved the dogs that came and sunbathed next to us. It really is a magical place. Don't go if you are a workout freak as there is no place to exercise other than swimming in the sea or paddling a kayak. I loved the casual vibe here. It was just what we needed to rejuvenate in the middle of winter. The massages were to die for and being in the open spa looking at the water and feeling the breezes was heavenly. Thank you to Paul and Racin who took care of us at the pool, thank you to all the wonderful servers in The Lodge, especially Splinter and Caileen, Razor, Sophia & Randall. We will see you next year!

We stayed for a week over Christmas 2024 and absolutely loved this place. I should point out that I did a LOT of research beforehand, as it's not always easy to find the type of thing that we prefer: Off the beaten track, a bit of luxury but in a natural way, great food but not an all-inclusive / all you can eat and drink approach, opportunity to try local food outside of the hotel, privacy with peace and quiet... so Tensing Pen could have been planned with us in mind! It certainly lived up to our hopes and it was great to meet with Sam and Anne-Marie, the owners, who were staying there over Christmas with their family. They were so welcoming and friendly, as were all the staff - even if an older British couple were a rarity there (the guests are pretty much all American, especially over Christmas). We chose Rock Cottage 2 and it didn't disappoint - the views are beautiful and we loved having an evening drink on the patio area, watching the sunset (once the bulk of the sunset cruise and booze boats, with their competing sound systems, had been and gone from Rick's cafe! There are a LOT of these, but fun to watch from a distance). We would echo all of the compliments in previous reviews, so rather than repeat them, would just add a couple of notes on things we particularly enjoyed whilst staying here. 1) The sunrise cruise on the Negril river: Stunning. For any other UK or European visitors, the early start time (4.30 am!) isn't a problem when you get there, due to the 6 hour time difference, and would recommend this. We went with Tiki Pon Da Sea and we were the only guests on the boat, which made it extra special. 2) Barney's Hummingbird garden, within walking distance of Tensing Pen. Barney is a quirky character and again, we were not only lucky enough to be the only ones there, but also saw many hummingbirds and even managed to feed some with bottled nectar! As long as you don't go along expecting to see the hummingbirds as a right ( they don't appear on demand!), it's a great place to visit. We came across mockingbirds, goats and some great local people on the walks there and back. 3) Snorkelling trip to 7 mile beach with Famous Vincent. Yet again, we were lucky to be the only ones on the trip. Whilst the snorkelling itself was pretty average (we scuba dived for many years, so we know we have high expectations), we loved the trip - Vincent picked us up from the jetty at Tensing Pen, gave us a great close up view of 7 Mile Beach at Negril and guided us around some nice coral on our snorkelling trip - lovely guy. As always, the music is all part of the trip! 4) We loved eating at both of the great little jerk shacks, just across the road from Tensing Pen. Watching the Negril West End world go by, whilst eating some of the best (and hottest!) pepper shrimp with rice, beans and pineapple slaw, washed down with a Red Stripe , was perfect. The reception team at Tensing were great in organising any of our trips and, as with all of the team, so helpful and friendly. Thank you for some very special memories and giving us the chance to experience exactly the type of Jamaica we were hoping for!

Wonderful resort! Staff is attentive, rooms are spacious and comfortable with amazing views. Great location with nearby bars and restaurants. Overall we had a great time and look forward to going back.

Returned to Tensing for our 5th visit in so many years. Stayed in the cozy cove cottage with a beautiful view of the inlet and ocean. The staff is so welcoming and being on the cliffs of Negril brings a completely different vibe than on the bays. The Lodge restaurant...

Returned to Tensing for our 5th visit in so many years. Stayed in the cozy cove cottage with a beautiful view of the inlet and ocean. The staff is so welcoming and being on the cliffs of Negril brings a completely different vibe than on the bays. The Lodge restaurant was excellent as always but will be reviewed separately. This year we mustered the courage to walk to several eateries off property. We have already booked for next year and can’t wait to return!

We recently stayed at Tensing Pen for a few nights. STAFF All the staff made us feel extremely welcome and were always on hand to help. Big respect and mention to Caleen, Sofia Damien and Razor 🙏🏼 . The life guards Paul, Nickoy were genuinely attentive and also very helpful....

We recently stayed at Tensing Pen for a few nights. STAFF All the staff made us feel extremely welcome and were always on hand to help. Big respect and mention to Caleen, Sofia Damien and Razor 🙏🏼 . The life guards Paul, Nickoy were genuinely attentive and also very helpful. FOOD and Drink Food was outstanding and the homemade bread rolls melted in your mouth. We had the complimentary breakfast most mornings which was more than adequate with fresh fruit, banana bread, cereal and outstanding coffee! We had poached eggs one morning and again we can’t fault the food quality. Coffee was available at the restaurant 24/7 but we did miss being able to make a coffee in our room. Loved, LOVED the reggae music all day in the restaurant!!!! ACTIVITIES Unfortunately, the weather was quite choppy when we were there so didn’t get to snorkel as we had hoped. However, we thoroughly enjoyed watching the catamarans as they passed by on their way to Ricks. ROOM We stayed in Rock Cottage 2 which had a great view and a beautiful verandah to enjoy the peace and quiet. The bed was very comfortable, AC great and a fridge to put chilled drinks in. Bathroom was more than adequate however the shower was a little fiddly to turn on with an adequate water pressure-. Towels were changed every day. Again it would have been nice to have water and coffee nearer to hand. We did struggle with the sun loungers and found them very uncomfortable after 30mins. Even though I’m allergic to dogs, the dogs are extremely well behaved and only approach if you encourage them. SUMMARY So why only 4/5 ? It did meet our expectations but didn’t exceed them, this is a great place for being private and embracing your surroundings; we enjoyed visiting the local bars nearby but probably could have done more .. the view from our cottage was very hypnotic, but the quietness just wasn’t our vibe. We are so blessed and glad we got to experience this amazing place, it was our first on the cliffs and we look forward to returning to the bar and the restaurant which are definitely a 5/5 for us!

Enjoyed the stay at the Tensing Pen. It was very relaxed and we enjoyed the Professionalism of the staff on site. Everyone that we interacted with daily was very kind and felt like family to me. The food was very good with a variety of choices. The overall vibe of the property was what was needed. In addition, the views were beautiful and the property is in a decent proximity to local shops and restaurants. This definitely one location that I will visit again. Thank You Tensing Pen Team Respect Every Time!

Anniversary dinner at The Lodge. Exceptional food, atmosphere, and great service from Sophia and Daimon! The views are spectacular. On our future trips to Jamaica I will be sure to stay at this location.

This was my fourth visit to Negril and first time staying at Tensing Pen. I won’t look anywhere else in the future. It was the perfect stay. A beautiful property and great staff. The property is nicely spread out with plenty of seating by the ocean. The bar/drinks were fantastic as was the food. It was really hard to leave the property sometimes, but we wanted to explore a little bit. Stayed here with 2 other couples for my girlfriend’s birthday and I could not recommend staying here enough. You will read comments about the boats going to Rick’s being a big disturbance - they really are not and pass by very briefly. I actually find them quite entertaining.

Tensing Pen never disappoints. Beautiful property, super friendly and accommodating staff, and a great newly expanded bar and restaurant. The rooms are uniquely decorated with local flair and the beds are super comfy! Been there many times and look forward to our next visit! 🇯🇲

Negril, Jamaica, and Tensing Pen have changed over the last 5 years. First, let me say the hotel is beautiful, clean, very well maintained, the rooms are spacious and lovely, the staff is extremely welcoming and accommodating. Georgia gave me 2 excellent massages! But what used to be a quiet, more adult oriented resort has now become a loud, party boat highway every afternoon with catamarans full of tourist and very loud music going past to deposit people at Rick's Bar nearby. Then all hours of the night and early in the morning there were the sweet, friendly but barking Rhodesian ridgebacks that wander the property. Add families with small, screaming children by the pool several days during our stay made our visit unpleasant. My partner Todd has been going to Tensing Pen for over 20 years, this was the last time he will go there. We were there 5 years ago and loved it, but Tensing Pen and Negril have changed since our last stay. The traffic on the road has increased and is also very noisy. We realize of course that Tensing Pen has no control over the loud party boats and traffic noise...but we won't go back.

We love Tensing Pen! The property, the staff, the views and of course the dogs is what keeps us coming back time and time again. This year we opted to try one of their garden rooms and it did not disappointment. We loved our little patio and how close it was to sun loungers away from where everyone seemed to hang out around the water. It’s always fun to cross the bridge and we definitely did alot of that instead of walking the path. We ate at the restaurant most meals and we were pleased with everything we had. Lunch was probably my favourite meal. I love all the hand helds they have. Breakfast has some tasty options as well if you want something more than the continental breakfast. Unfortunately my toast kept getting served cold so it just wasn’t enjoyable. The only other negative thing I have to say is the reoccurring cockroaches we’ve had in the rooms. Out of the four times we’ve stayed here we have had them appear 3 times, all in different cottages. I don’t buy that because we are in a tropical climate, this should be expected. I’ve stayed in more jungle like places than Tensing Pen and I’ve never experienced this. It was very unsettling the first few nights and caused restless nights. We finally had to complain and ask something to be done. The staff did address it but every time I went into the bathroom I was on guard. It is now in the back of my mind every time I think about rebooking. It’s just not a good feeling turning on lights watching things scurrying.

Then check in to your accommodation, ours was Pine Pillar; climbing up the stairs and into a treetop suite with windows all around; loved everything about it especially sitting on the porch watching the fishermen; walk down the stairs to the outdoor shower. You can sit by the pool, jump off the cliffs (shout out to Paul the amazing life guard (also Rasine) who got my husband out of a sticky situation!) The restaurant was excellent! Sit at the bar and talk to Razor the bartender or sit at a table with amazing service by Calene and all the staff! Oh and one more thing - the dogs who are the stars of the show!! We loved it all - it's our second visit and we'll be back Love, Respect, Every Time!!
