Big hotel in a good location. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was top notch. Heads above other hotel breakfasts. We didn’t have a whole lot of interaction with staff but they were friendly when we did. Pier 39 is a short walk away. There is an overpriced 7/11 and good IHOP nearby. The fireplaces outside are a nice touch and used by many guests. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

We stayed here in late February. The hotel staff were friendly, room was pretty clean when we checked in (minor hair in the shower) and the bed and pillows were so comfortable - even my partner complimented the bed and that is a rare occurrence!
The staff was extremely friendly, and we got a free upgrade during check in. They offer a breakfast buffet with options for everyone.
Location is within walking distance of some of the big touristy areas in downtown, including fisherman’s wharf and Pier 33 (Alcatraz landing location). Lots of restaurants nearby, walking distance to Ghiradelli square, cable cars etc.
They have nice fire pits out front where you can sit on cooler evenings as well. The bathrooms are a little small (toilet and shower in a room with a door, sink on the outside), but pretty minor overall.
There are daily resort fees, and parking is a bit steep ($60 USD which is almost what we paid for the car in CDN!) but it is underground and a relatively safe option. We were informed of the fees prior to check in which was great.
All in all a great hotel and we would definitely stay again!

To be honest great location for fisherman’s wharf and pier 39 but on arrival my husband was speaking to a lady on reception who was not a very pleasant person she looked like she does not like her job .to be honest if I owned a hotel she is one person I would NOT have front of house but thankfully a lovely pleasant young man on reception helped us. One of the nights there was a group of students in the reception area spitting in the bins in this area close to the reception in full view of the staff on reception.the staff completely ignored them not nice to be sitting having a drink and this going on beside you .but in saying this two people stood out and made the stay at the hotel a good experience, one was the amazing Jean in the grab and go such a wonderful lady , pleasant ,welcoming and hard working and the next person was Oscar behind the bar who was great for a chat and very professional and hard working .only for these two members of staff the stay would not have been as good as it was

The hotel has a great location, situated right next to Pier 39, which made exploring the area really convenient. The room itself was spacious, offering plenty of comfort after a long day of sightseeing. I was pleasantly surprised by the buffet breakfast, which had a wide variety of options, including gluten-free bread, gluten-free cereal, and both soya and lactose-free milk—something that's not always easy to find. The hotel bar was also a nice spot to unwind at the end of a busy day, offering a good place to relax and enjoy a drink. The concierge staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed during our stay.
However, the reception staff were quite slow at checking people in, which created a bit of a frustrating wait when we arrived. Another downside was the noise from the bus depot right behind our room. It was especially loud in the early hours of the morning, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep.

V busy hotel, great location on mason and Bay St with tram and bus stop nearby. Nice ambience and staff are obliging and helpful. We'd normally stay in Marriott or Accor hotels but we'd a great stay at Hotel Riu Plaza España, Edificio España on Madrid’s Gran Vía May 2024, so we tried here. It did not disappoint. Not quite as grand as Madrid but equally charming. We had a ground floor room with a patio (which was on the shade side of the terrace/pool area in the evening). The room had a few wrinkles but everything worked (albeit with some tweaking).
The breakfasts are to die for (they serve salmon alternate or 2/5 days). This is a great favourite. They have a snacks shop on the ground floor near the bar. The hotel is in walking distance of all the fisherman's wharf and tourist transport hubs. Trader joes 2 blocks away and good Thai a block away. Hyde and Powell able cars close by.

Great choice of hotel for our 4 night stay as part of my husbands 60th Birthday trip.
Quick, friendly check-in staff - nice clean/comfy room. Very nice smoking area with seating and firepits (a rarity in San Francisco). Bar drinks were a little expensive ($10 a pint) but that is to be expected so no issue (their cocktails were very good value i thought $12-15) and the bar staff gave excellent service. Without doubt one of the best things here was the buffet breakfast - a huge range of food, something for everyone - and consistently being refreshed by the hard working staff here. The location for sightseeing was excellent - a short walk to Fishermans Wharf/Pier39/Ghiradelli square and very handy for the Big bus Tour which took us to to a number of sights throughout the city. It took us about 10 mins to walk to pier 33 for the Alcatraz boat tour. All in all a great choice.

This hotel checked all the boxes!
Location-just blocks from the waterfront and all the touristy stuff in all the directios. (Also super close to Trader Joe's)
Side note-My husband uses CPAP machine and we didn't find any distilled water except 2 days into our trip at the nearest 7-11 and it was $5 so it might be worth it if you find it early. But wasn't for him. I honestky don't understand why hotels haven't cashed in on carrying even the small bottles of distilled water. They over charge for everything else (this is all hotels-not exclusively this one)in their "general store".
Bed/pillow-was perfect. I know these can be subjective but I'm this close to trying to see WHAT brand pillow and mattress they use because the pillows were amazing! As was the mattress. Seriously. Perfect lush firm heaven. That's all.
Shower/water pressure - perfect. Good pressure makes showers go faster IMHO. They had it! Not the kind that will jet spray the moles off either. The shower faucet wasn't weird either. And there was a metal shelf that can hold all your personal showering accoutrements. The tub itself is very narrow which I found odd. But not a deal breaker.
The toilet flushing was annoying. Again not a deal breaker.
Finally a hotel that didn't put the sink IN the bathroom. That is why the room with the toilet and tub are so small (let's say sardine can) because it allows for a more spacious layout as you enter the room. So where the traditional bathroom is was the sink and closet. (Galley style 🤷) It worked. Toilet and tub are in its own room with a door. Very tight space.
Which leads me to the rest of the room. There wasn't some lame hard as a rock sitting chair. No. There was a quite comfortable small scale "L " shaped sofa. We had a King size bed. There was still room to walk around. The dresser that had the big TV above it had a lower spot to set your luggage as well as housed your mini-fridge and their coffee machine. There was a desk to the right of it. Not massive waste of space. But room to maneuver. Space to relax after a long day out.
Plugs- there was a regular USB with 2 regular outlets on the might tables. I found that the regular plugs were quite loose so even my small charger wouldn't stay in the wall. But I still had the reg USB. There was not a lack of sockets. All were reachable and not awkward. So I shall forgive the loose sockets. 🤪 The bathroom sockets worked as expected. (I've had some hotels that didn't even work and it wasn't a tripped circuit issue either)
Then there's the lovely breakfast spread. HOLY MOLY! Yeah they have the usual mass quantity institutional eggs, bacon and sausage as well as a bagel toaster, wonderful oatmeal. BUT they also had a lovely spread of ripe flavorful fruit for yogurt, various sliced cold cuts, cheese, etc. the usual mass produced pastries. You know what? I'm glad they have rules stating no food be taken outside the breakfast room. Because I normally stay in hotels that do and it's just messy and people are gross and inconsiderate. So Kudos to this hotel for standing firm with this rule. It's not a secret people. There's signs everywhere.
THE COFFEE WAS ACTUALLY drinkable!!! (Sorry to yell) I always try the hotel coffee but rarely is it more than brown weak watered down swill. Whoever or whatever they brew is actually drinkable. Is it Peets? Is it?!!!! 🤪
Staff- very friendly and helpful. We didn't stay long enough to need any service. So can't vouch for housekeeping. Except our room was clean up on arrival.
Odd note- the elevators are smooth and fast and didn't make me sick. It's definitely NOT and Embassy Suites. 🤪😂😂
Bottom line. I would definitely come back. I would highly recommend this place.
They even have outdoor gas fire pit seating. Unfortunately you have to walk right by them to exit in one direction and it always reaks of smoke regardless of where the smoking or non smoking section is. I can't fault the hotel for entitled selfish people. But do expect that people will be smoking right outside the door or where ever they please. Not just cigarettes. It's not that I care and yes I know pot is now legal. I come from a state where it's legal. I still don't want to be subjected to the reak of either the second I come out the door.
Despite the discourtesy of the other patrons it's not a deal breaker and I would definitely come back.

I went down to the included breakfast buffet & was blown away as to how massive the buffet was. When we were last in Malta we experienced a similar spectacular buffet. This buffet was unbelievable. I arrived at 6.20AM for the opening for 6:30 AM. There were 30 people already in line.
6:30 AM to 10:00 AM. The place was completely packed they needed to open upseAting across the hall. A tremendous amount of international guests who eat much differently that we americans do. There were multiple cold cuts, cheeses, fish items etc…

We chose this hotel for our 4-night trip to San Francisco with the help of reviews and recommendations. The location is perfect with just a short walk to Pier 39, the Alcatraz terminal, Ghiradelli Square, and public transportation. Rui Plaza is very clean with very friendly staff. The included breakfast buffet is absolutely incredible with so many choices! It gets crowded but the very efficient staff keeps things moving and we never had to wait to be seated. There is a nice bar area and outside seating with fire elements as well. We didn't use the pool as it wasn't very warm out but it looked very nice.
The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is the check-process. There should be a way for the hotel to text you when your room is ready instead of telling us to come back at a particular time - especially since check-in lines get very long, there are not enough stations for this. After coming back the 3rd time, it was well after 3:00 and the king room we paid for still was not available unless we took the ground floor - a RUI agent on the phone when booking had specifically requested an upper floor for us. If check-in time is 3:00, rooms should be clean and ready by 3:00. Instead we settled for a 2 queen room on the 4th floor. It was nice and comfortable, but this experience was still very disappointing.

I would give the hotel 3.5 stars but unfortunately can’t. The hotel was very good value for money with the included breakfast but we found the room quite dated. The air conditioning panel on the wall did not work and were advised by the maintenance man to use the controls on the actual unit itself after calling up to let them know it was not working. The door handle to the balcony outside fell off in my husband’s hand. The bathroom was very small as mentioned by previous reviewers. The room would seem much brighter if it was painted lighter and had no dark furniture in it. The bed was comfortable and the hotel very convenient for cruise ship passengers and also to Fisherman’s Wharf. Breakfast was good but very chaotic due to the hotel being full occupancy.
We did ask for early check in prior to arriving at hotel as were arriving on a cruise ship as we had noticed that early check in may be available for an extra $50. Email advised that would not know until closer to the stay. When we arrived at 11am, we were told nothing currently available but to try again at 12pm, so we sat in the lobby for the hour. Asked again at 12pm and was told a little curtly that there was nothing available and would not be until closer to 2pm. We did leave our bags with the bell hop and went out for some sightseeing and lunch. Would have been nice if advised this as soon as we arrived. Another couple checking in had a similar issue but they were apparently told they would be able to get a room prior to arriving at hotel.
Overall the hotel was in a great location but there are many others in close proximity so would try another if we stayed in this area again.
