We are very regular guests in this hotel. Before 5 stars, now 3. Why? Some things might look unimportant, and first world problems. Of course they are, but this is five stars, and not cheapest of the island.
1. Restaurant and housekeeping staff: 6 out of 5
They deserve a 6. These people are so friendly here, we rarely find this. They make this hotel. It feels like coming home. Manolo, German, Valentin, Cristian, Joanna and so many others: they are wonderful and make this hotel great.
The food is very good, but not the same quality as it used to be (never seen lobsters anymore for example, before yes).
2. Rooms: 3 out of 5
The rooms in the garden were very good. They still are, but maintenance is really needed now. In our room (more or less same issues last year in another room): one sink stopper is not properly working, terrace tiles and joints are worn, toilet button not working as it should, towel rack on terrace loose, terrace furniture is worn, moisture on ceiling in the toilet with paint parts dropping, shower door not closing properly, … and so on. Maintenance is badly needed. Before there was always some fruit in the room when arriving. That gesture disappeared as well.
3. Reception and organisation: 1 out of 5
This could be so much better. Reception staff is polite, but distant. They probably call it efficiency. We have had the same “house” for many years. We requested now 2 rooms in that house, because we love the location and love in the meantime the cleaning lady (Veronica). We got “promoted” to Riu Gold, so no problem, it means that you can choose your room. We requested two rooms twice by e mail. They politely replied that they would do their best, subject to availability. Asking for more information because Riu Gold permits the choice, they sent a reply meaning more or less that there can always be a problem with the room. Of course, there can be a technical problems and one year we had cockroaches in the room (not the hotel’s fault), and you will not give such a room. After asking when checking in, the guy said we got another house as all previous years. We complained, and could change 3 days later. No thanks, we come for a quiet holiday. This Riu Gold is by the way a complete joke for us. We always got the same building, now you get promoted and it is not possible anymore because other people are staying in it (there was absolutely no problem in those rooms). We got a RIU Gold towel, left it in the room, it is useless for us, it was the only advantage of our “gold” status, a joke.
Communication by reception staff is not proactive at all. When checking in, I had to request myself which room we got. They send you for a glass of cava, as if that is the most important, but they do not proactively communicate with you if they cannot fulfil your request. We have stayed in many hotels where this kind of organisation was so much better.
In all 3 out of 5, thanks to wonderful staff in restaurant and housekeeping. and w elove the location and the houses in the garden. We will come back because we feel at home and some people feel like friends. Otherwise, we would definitely look elsewhere.

We recently stayed at RIU Palace Meloneras in February, and while the hotel was probably not our usual crowd (mostly older guests), it was exactly what we were looking for—a relaxing vacation in the sun.
From the moment we arrived, the experience was excellent. Check-in was smooth and friendly, thanks to Domingo, who made us feel welcome right away. Our room was beautiful, and housekeeping was impeccable throughout our stay. The staff in general were extremely kind and attentive, with a special mention to Abdel, the bellman, who was always helpful.
The food was another highlight. Breakfast was amazing with plenty of variety, and we especially enjoyed dinner at the Spanish restaurant. However, we would love to see more healthy options at the buffet. We found that many dishes had more condiments and sugar than necessary. A bit more focus on simple/healthy flavors options would be a great improvement!
The hotel’s location is fantastic. The oceanfront pool offers breathtaking sunset views every evening, and there’s a beautiful path along the coast for walking or simply soaking in the sun. Plus, it’s conveniently close to small shops and supermarkets if you need anything.
This was our first time at a RIU hotel, and we would return in a heartbeat. Everything about our stay was enjoyable, making it the perfect getaway for relaxation and sunshine. Highly recommended!

A place to unwind and relax. The pools were amazing and heated to a good temperature so going for a swim was a pleasure. I have been to other hotels in March in the Canaries and they have had wonderful pools but absolutely freezing so can’t go in them. Very important to me as I like to have a morning swim before breakfast. I would return to the hotel just for the pools. Everything else was very good, the food, service, cleanliness. Good size rooms with a very comfortable bed and lots of storage space. Lovely balcony with good views. We were on the 3rd floor with a side sea view room. The hotel has a feeling of grandeur especially in the reception area.
My one gripe is that we got the RIU transfer to the hotel which took about an hour which was acceptable but going to the airport they transfer was going to pick us up 5 hours before our flight. We did not want to hang about the airport for that length of time so got the hotel transfer which cost us 55 euro.

This was our 7th Holiday at the Riu Palace Meloneras in the last 10 years. as always, we booked the Superior Room with Sea View thru the hotels webside, as mentioned in the past, the rooms are a good standard size, modern, clean, and equipped with a nice bathroom (large shower) and a well-functioning air conditioning system. Housekeeping was very good and always on time, the rooms were kept nice and tidy.
I can definitely recommend private Shuttle for 50,00€ each way
The restaurant has a high standard, and the buffet food selection was varied and excellent about 90% of the time. The management should look into the situation with the following problems: Bread sometimes old and very good vegan service for people with allergies
In the last couple of years, all 5 pools had their sunbeds reserved before breakfast, although it states not to reserve sunbeds. We asked the pool boy what we could do, and his answer was we are looking into this
The new rule on the day of departure: the hotel management wanted €19 for staying in the room for 1 hour longer, which is really not acceptable when the room costs over €3500.00 for 6 nights. Both our mattresses in our room were quite old and not too comfortable.
But all in all, the staff was very friendly, the main restaurant was good, the gardens & Pools were spotlessly clean, and the sunbeds were good. The rooms as said are acceptable for such an hotel that is over 20 years old and we have booked again for 8 time in November 2025

I booked this hotel via a Black Friday deal. The choice was between this and the Lopesan next door but I chose the Riu as it included free transport to and from the airport.
The clientele was mostly older people and is very suitable for those with mobility problems. There are plenty of lifts and walkways throughout the grounds were smooth. Ramps were everywhere and the pools had slopes with handrails as well as ladders or Roman steps for access. The shower in the room was huge. Bath robes were supplied. There were two queen sized beds in our room.
The only noise in the hotel during the day comes from the bar by the boardwalk where soft music is playing. There is no music at all around the pool areas and so is very relaxing. We had no trouble at all finding sun loungers later in the mornings.
The food choice was amazing. Something for everyone. At breakfast we counted 11 types of juice as well as hot drinks and water coolers.
There is a book exchange area in the TUI room off reception which is open 24/7.
The only free drinking water available was at the gym. Apart from at breakfast, you do have to pay for drinks throughout the hotel (excluding the tea and coffee sachets provided in the room). There is no milk supplied in the rooms but there are several shops nearby which sell milk and snacks.
The gym was only open until 7pm and the equipment was disappointingly old.
Off the gym changing room area there are hot and cold jacuzzis which were a lovely way to finish the day. Again, only open until 7pm.
The pools were all warm enough to swim in when we were there in May.
On Friday evenings there is a Neon party at the Riu Gran Canaria hotel next door. This is a free event for Riu guests and coaches brought guests from other Riu hotels. You can have neon make up applied. Drinks are free. Dancers entertained on a stage. A good atmosphere but we felt 80s music would have made the event more appealing to all.

We have just returned from a wonderful 2-week stay at the Riu Palace Meloneras.
We booked this hotel after reading all the reviews on this site, and also after becoming frustrated with our usual go-to hotel in Italy, which has sold its soul to wedding parties.
On arrival, we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who took our cases from the coach to the impressive mirrored reception. We checked in and were told there would be a short wait for the room, and a complimentary drink would be served in the bar. Nice touch and creates a good first impression.
Walking from there to the bar and seeing the boardwalk view for the first time definitely has the "wow" factor.
We had booked a partial sea view room and were given one in the main building on the 4th floor with a full sea view, which we were more than happy with.
The room was spacious, with 2 queen-size beds pushed together and a comfortable settee next to the patio doors. The bathroom had 2 sinks and a large walk-in shower, with shampoo/conditioners/bodywash provided.
There is a safe in the room which cost about 50 euros for the 2 weeks, which, in my opinion, should be free in a 5* hotel.
The pool area is definitely a selling point. There are 5 pools, 2 of which are infinity pools, but you have to be up early to get a bed at one of those! The "towels on the sunbed" situation is a bit ridiculous. I went to the pool at about 0815 every morning to swim a few lengths and found I was the only one there, yet most of the beds had towels on them and stayed that way until mid-morning! There are plenty of beds, but this definitely needs addressing.
The food at this hotel is outstanding. The choice of meats, fish, vegetables, and salad is never-ending, and all was cooked to perfection. The serving staff (special mention to Manolo) were extremely attentive and made each meal seem very special.
The staff at this hotel are extremely hard working and keep the hotel and grounds spotlessly clean.
We loved our stay here, and we have already booked again for next year.

This hotel was amazing, it was a trip booked for my 50 th birthday. First as a couple in 20 years , everything was lovely, large room with lovely view , amazing bathroom with plenty of space to put everything, quiet after 11 when entertainment finished, live music every night, top class waiting staff , and amazing buffet food. It was very clean and definitely 5*
Sunbeds with thick cushions, plenty of them in sun and shade, amazing pools , warm enough for swimming although chilly to get in
Lovely location along a promenade, for regular walks to shops bars restaurants,
Went with TUI and this was good experience too rep very helpful on all areas
Minor detail was check in , we had to queue and then were told to go have a drink and come back , Even though 5.30 pm , slightly impatient reception staff during check in , we just wanted in after 12 hours of travel.
Went back to desk after 5 mins and got keycard , so not sure what that was all for.
Would definitely recommend the hotel .

Our second visit and first class yet again.
Staff, setting ,rooms and food exceptional.
Ideal for anyone who likes a high quality , quiet retreat but not child friendly.
I would have scored 5 star but the entertainment let the hotel down- in 10 days we only had two quality acts and many of the acts were on at 20.00, while most people were enjoying their evening meal- not sure about the logic behind this. One would have thought that the hotel would want its clients to remain in the hotel and spend money.
However, we will be returning and enjoying the service asap, as there are plenty alternative sources of entertainment close at hand.
