Hacienda Belen is a very busy place and was filled with mostly North American travelers and travel groups during our 3 night stay. The rooms are spacious and very clean. They are well lit. The building is colonial style and was built in the 1980's. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I do not drink coffee and requested an electric kettle for tea and it was provided.
The large restaurant downstairs has a beautiful patio. The breakfast buffet is massive. There is also a lunch buffet. We ordered off the menu and the food was excellent. The laundry service was also excellent.

While I wouldn’t categorize this as a destination property on its own, it’s an excellent starting or stopping point for a Costa Rican adventure.

Expectations from a Marriott are always high and, in our case, only partially met.
We stayed one night at the beginning of our Costa Rica holiday, and another night at the end. My husband also has a Gold Elite status.
The first night after our flight I think the hotel was relatively empty. Check in was fast and we were given an upgrade. The room was nice and clean, we slept well but only after turning off a way too loud AC. Breakfast is absolutely fantastic and the grounds around the property fantastic.
We were therefore optimistic our second stay would be good as well, but were proven wrong. Check in took almost 20min as we arrived after a large group and not all check-in stations were manned. We were told the hotel was fully booked, which is of course not a problem. What is a problem, is that the rooms have no sound insulation at all, meaning we could hear everything our neighbours were saying, the clacking of shoes in the corridors, etc… needless to say we slept very poorly. Upon checking in we also asked whether we could check out at 14 instead 12. We were told 13 was the max they could give us, which was not ideal but I understand. Come 8am (EIGHT!!) next morning, and the cleaning staff is aggressively knocking at our door - there went our hopes of sleeping in until later to be rested for the long flight that awaited us. The valet organization is also quite chaotic and feels somewhat pushy.

A great Marriott close to San Jose airport. We used this as a jump off spot to get in and out of the airport and it was perfect. Built on an old coffee plantation, it has private grounds, a pool and excursions to local areas. We enjoyed the Doka Coffee plantation tour with the Poas Volcano and waterfalls hiking, and were very pleased with Swiss Tours. Staff at the Executive Lounge are warm and helpful, making excellent suggestions and personalizing our stay. The staff have mastered the art of calm efficiency - everything is well designed and planned.

Beautiful hotel close to airport
Very nice way to begin our vacation. Arrived late after a long travel day to a beautiful hotel. Great amenities, shower & extremely comfortable bed. Breakfast on the patio & a nice walk on the property before our Sansa flight at 11. Free shuttle back to airport.
Great, practical, feels special
We just wanted a decent stop-over and acclimatization period en-route to a lengthy South American trip. This was way better…admittedly the rooms feel in need of a refurb (spotless, just a behind the decades) but the staff were great, the surroundings are delightful and there’s a real sense of ‘place’...

This was way better…admittedly the rooms feel in need of a refurb (spotless, just a behind the decades) but the staff were great, the surroundings are delightful and there’s a real sense of ‘place’ despite being only 15 minutes from the airport. Big shout out to the Exec Lounge staff….we used it a lot and it had great quality, choice and friendliness.

This is my second time staying at this hotel. Previously visited over 10 years ago and it is even more beautiful. Booked the executive floor to take advantage of the free breakfast and dinner plus free water and snacks. The property is so beautiful. I love sitting on my balcony bird watching and listening to nature. The property is huge and the gym is huge. I definitely recommend and will return again. There is a complimentary airport shuttle. You kind of have to google to find the pick up times as it’s not on their website, however the gentleman at the airport were so wonderful upon arrival in helping us locate the shuttle.
