My wife and I loved our 3-day stay at the Amerikalinjen Hotel, an excellent base for exploring Oslo. It couldn't be more centrally located, directly across from Central Station and the main shopping street, Karl Johan's Gate and an easy walk to the waterfront. It also featured a beautiful interior, comfortable rooms, outstanding breakfast (both the eggs benedict to order and the massive buffet, both of which I tried). Our timing did not work out to experience the Jazz Bar, but the Pier 42 cocktail lounge was fun and reputedly among the best in town -- outstanding cocktails and friendly, knowledgeable bartenders. Highly recommend this place!

Rooms are very snug but nice. And the high ceilings and large windows made the room feel much larger. We were fortunate to have a fantastic view over the city as well. We were unfortunate to stay on an upper floor during a heat wave, but the hotel was very accommodating with fans. There is no air conditioning.
The breakfast buffet was very nice and included one made-to-order dish. However, we thought the buffet was plenty and did not order from the menu.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights at this lovely hotel in the center of Oslo and had a wonderful time. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. It is in a perfect location, just steps from the train station, harbor and walkable to all of Oslo. The (included) breakfast in the morning is delicious! It was the best way to begin our day and offered a huge variety of everything you could want to eat. The staff was kind and super helpful with any questions or recommendations we had during our stay. Our room was lovely and so quiet! We stayed on the top, 7th, floor and we felt like we had the "attic" to ourselves the whole time. The bathroom and amenities were great as well, lovely lotions and soaps for us to use. The bed was very comfortable and watching the snow fall from our balcony was a treat. We also enjoyed having drink in the cozy bar after spending a cold day out enjoying Oslo. Highly recommend staying here if you are in this city, it was a treat to come back to every day.

We enjoyed our stay at the Amerikalinjen and would return. The room was spacious and clean. The Building is beautiful. It was nice to have in-room bluetooth speakers to enjoy our own music. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed breakfast at Atlas (reservations are recommended). Be sure to visit the bar, Pier 42 at least once. The Bartenders are talented & entertaining. The proximity to the train station, restaurant & sights was convenient. Five Stars!

Room was lovely, spotless with all the amenities. Staff were stellar, always friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast is one of the best. Nice selection in addition could order omelet, eggs Benedict, etc off menu. We never did as buffet items plenty. Being celiac, I appreciated the gluten free items available (Christmas bread fantastic!). We would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

The first thing you notice when you step into the hotel is a blast of warm deliciously scented air. The second is the welcoming smile on the face of each staff member that catches your eye. The third is that this is a very, very nice hotel indeed. If you like your hotels high end but relaxed, attentive but informal and immaculate without pretension this is the place for you. Beautiful decor, great gym, delicious food and top service throughout. Soooo good. To prove this is not a paid for review (it's not) the only very minor gripe is that the rooms are fairly small and so storage isn't great - but everything else about the rooms is outstanding. I've rarely felt so at home in a hotel. As an added bonus on our fourth and final night we had an absolute blast in the Jazz club. If Oslo itself wasn't so cool I probably wouldn't have left the Amerikalinjen!

Excellent location. We stayed here for two nights in early November. The hotel is well positioned for many of Oslo’s key attractions as well as the Train Station which has a fast service to and from the airport. There was an excellent selection of food at breakfast. We loved the cocktails in Pier 42 on the first night but when we went back the second night the bar was too busy and we couldn’t get seated so make sure you make the most of the opportunity! We enjoyed the theatre that went with serving the cocktails and can highly recommend The Gatsby and A-ha. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Oslo

Stayed here en route to Penang, situated centrally very close to the railway station. The hotel is beautiful both inside and out, classically decorated in all the public areas. The rooms are very stylish and comfortable. We visited the bar before dinner in the evening for a glass of wine but there were plenty of cocktails to choose from!
We walked from the hotel to eat at Vulcan Fisk around 20 minutes walk but there are plenty of trams throughout the city.
I must mention the breakfast which is probably the best I have ever seen in a hotel, so much choice and beautifully presented, even the fussiest eater would be able to find something! The dining area was also a lovely space and the staff were very welcoming.
Would 100% recommend and most certainly return for longer next time!

I just celebrated my 50th birthday during a 10-day trip in Norway. My birthday happened to fall on one of the 3 days of my visit to Oslo. I was choosing between this one and Hotel Continental during my booking, and ultimately, I chose this hotel due to its proximity to the train station. I am so glad I chose Amerikalinjen! The hotel exceeded all of my expectations and made my birthday very memorable.
Besides the fantastic and unbeatable location (walking distance to Oslo Central Station, and steps away from the main shopping street), I really appreciate the customer service and the amazing breakfast. Peter and Mora at the front desk, Christina at the breakfast front desk, all provided top notch customer service. They really tried to accommodate customers' preferences and requests. One day we couldn't turn on the TV, the front desk quickly sent someone, ( i think his name is sebastian? ) he fixed it quickly and had a great attitude.
The breakfast itself was indeed amazing like everyone said. The ingredients are fresh and you can tell it was prepared with care and love. I have traveled all over the world quite a bit and have stayed in all kinds of hotels, but Amerikalinjen really made a great impression. I hope to be back soon!

My husband and I stayed one night before taking the overnight train to Bergen. We selected Amerikalinjen due to the reputation of being the best in Oslo and proximity from the train station . First and foremost, we were impressed by the incredible service of Amerikalinjen's staff. Kei and her team were very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to treat the guests well. They certainly gave us tons of respects for a couple staying just one night. They gave us a great recommendations and not a hint of hesitation to check and reserve our restaurant.
They accommodated us to on the fourth floor with a view. Lots of buses and light rails (and the drum guy), but all the noise disappeared once we closed the double windows for a comfortable sleep.
As other reviewers mentioned, Amerikalingen is centrally located to most of the Oslo's attractions. While our stay was short, we were able to visit Munch Museum, Opera House, Royal Palace, Fortress, etc.
Overall, we were impressed with all aspects of this Hotel. We wish we stayed longer.

The perfect home away from home!
The best hotell experince in a long while. All over a fantastic experience. Excellent service from all the staff, great rooms with the most comfortable beds and amazing breakfast! Highly reccommend and personally our favorite hotell in all of Norway!

My only regret about my stay at the Amerikalinjen is that I never learnt how to pronounce its name.
One of the hotel’s key advantages is its location, which gives ready access to most of Oslo’s key sights. For those arriving or departing by air, the platform for the airport express train is only a few minutes’ walk away.
On arrival, we quickly made our way to the hotel’s excellent, buzzing cocktail bar. The standard of the drinks and service was high. A breakdown of the ice machine could have left us briefly dry. However, the barman was kind enough to provide us with complimentary wine to tide us over whilst the problem was fixed.
Breakfast time at Amerikalinjen is something to be relished, given the quality and range of food on offer. However, service was rather hit and miss (mostly miss). This was also the case at dinner. We waited an hour for our desert to arrive – all the more puzzling given the preparation merely required the “chef” to slice some cheese and open a packet of biscuits on a quiet night. However, the staff were good enough to take the initiative and deduct the cheese plate from the bill.
Our room was modern, spacious and a pleasure to spend time in. The hotel as a whole strikes a nice balance between preserving its history and offering a modern level of amenity and décor. All of this at a fairly modest cost by Norwegian standards.

This was the perfect place for several days in Oslo. It is across the street from the train station as well as tram and bus stops, and walking distance from almost everything. And yet, the rooms are very quiet. We especially enjoyed the history associated with this hotel as the former headquarters of a Norwegian cruise line. The room had several framed artifacts from cruises, including menus with a very enviable set of wine pairings! We had a weird issue with our room when we first got there, in that the lights, operated by a high-tech touch panel in the room, would not turn off. When the hotel couldn't resolve the issue, they moved us immediately into another room. This hotel, unlike some other Norwegian hotels supplied both wash cloths and facial tissues. Breakfast was quite good, and the front desk incredibly helpful with restaurants and other questions.

We stayed for a long weekend in the hotel and had a very good time. The hotel is located just around the corner from the railway station and the opera house.
We travelled with a small dog which was never a problem (not so common in Norway as we realized that it's actually a very dog unfriendly country).
The room was modern, spacious, quiet and very well equipped and we liked the interior design (especially of the bathroom).
The breakfast buffet was very extensive, in a high quality. The hotel bar offers a very special and creative menu of cocktails.
The staff was overall very friendly.
Nice addon: the Jazz club in the basement. Enjoyed a very nice concert there.
