We always wanted to stay at an Aman resort to see what all the buzz was about - well now we know...The experience -- and that is the word....-- was amazing from beginning to end. Everything is wonderful... we cannot think of a single negative to say only glowing positives. First of all the staff -- everyone is so professional and so focused on "getting it right" for us. Every thing is geared to ensure maximal comfort for the guests. I have to say, it took a bit of time for us to get used to the concept of being shuttled around and pampered.... but we did get used to it and boy did we love it. EVERY part of the experience was amazing... where do I begin. The SPA - what a treat.... the GOLF ... every comfort you can want. Meals - everything we ate was wonderful and all the drinks as well. Yes... this is not an inexpensive excursion but boy is it worth it.... I am sold on the Aman brand...

The chic , open air architecture, the fabulous suites.. the drama of wild windswept ocean all contribute to an amazing sense of place… The staff is congenial and top notch. Lionel the GM is omnipresent. Service outstanding. I love the little gifts they leave in your room when you return from dinner! We love to swim so we would walk to the public beach where the water is less challenging. It’s a lovely daily hike. I love to shop so I wish the gift shop was more varied. There are some Dominican products but mostly the Aman line of clothes and products which are not interesting. Had great massages at the spa!

We came here for our anniversary and it is one of the best decisions we’ve made. We’ve stayed at luxury hotels before but this is its own level- everything is so well thought out, the service was very friendly, the cleanliness spectacular, the food out of this world. We had a complimentary casita upgrade, beach dinner, little gifts and treats every night. We felt like celebrities. It’s worth every penny. I’d like to return here with our kids next time. I’ve no negatives except one that is not in the hotel staff’s control- the beach here is beautiful but kind of violent- full disclosure I can’t swim but even my husband who does- the sound and view of it is spectacular though.

Just be aware that getting to the resort is like a pilgrimage in itself. Unless you have a budget to hire a private jet to the nearest small airport, it will take you 5-6 hours by car one way from Punta Cana, and 2.5-3hours from Santo Domingo. The resort is remote. It's something important to factor in before booking this hotel. Arrange your own transportation to and from the resort since the hotel transfer rates are not competitive. The resort is other-worldly. Unparalleled luxury on par with one of the top 5 star resorts in other remote destinations. Check-in was flawless and perfectly orchestrated from the moment we stepped out of the car. The service mentality and style was nothing short of professional and courteous. The resort only has 25 villas or casitas as they call them and the maximum number of guests they would have at full capacity would be around 56 guests. It is the perfect place for secluded luxury to reconnect, recharge, relax and get pampered. The vistas are speechlessly beautiful. You dont need a TV. We never switched it on, not even once during our stay. The view from the main lobby, at the main restaurant and by the pool were endlessly spectacular. And the resort faces the Atlantic Ocean, so there is no sargassm problems like in the Caribbean during the warmer seasons. Our Casita was very well designed with sliding doors separating the closet, the bathroom, the bedroom and living room. Spacious and immaculately maintained and serviced. I believe at one point the casita was serviced 4-5 times a day to make everything spotless any time of the day every day and even on our last day before our late check out. Attention to detail by the housekeeping team was incredible. The private pool is large and temperature controlled. We found the bed incredibly comfortable despite all the negative reviews about them. It wasn't a soft mattress but the kind that was good for the spine and allowed you to have the best sleep. We loved it. This is not a cheap hotel. Room rates itself are high and expect to spend in addition around 150-200 usd per head for lunch and easily 250-400 usd per person for dinner daily with drinks or wine. Drinks are around 30-40 USD each. They employ a different system where don't sign for anything. There is a certain level of trust you give to every staff and you expect them to be honest and treat you right. You can always check every item in great detail with front desk and they really do keep every single detail on the books and they do not cheat you on anything. You don't need to worry about tipping everyone every time throughout your stay either which is refreshing. And everyone is genuinely friendly and professional, not because they expect something from you. There isn't a lot of 'complimentary' drinks or stuff from this resort, which can feel strange if you are used to such from having a high status for other hotel brands. Pro tip would be to contact the hotel prior to checking in to pre-arrange an itinerary before your arrival. They have an activities list. Prices are on the high side but we felt most were worth the price. The kayak tour was one of the best experiences for us. The wreck dive....not so much. The diving instructor wasn't able to speak English and the dive spot had too many rough currents. Equipments were also not the most modern. The price performance value was not there. The Dominican cooking class was really enjoyable. I'd highly recommend the private rum tasting. You really get to learn and experience some small batch rum from the Dominican curated by Felix, who is apparently the best bartender of the year in the Dominican. The F&B, despite the price and some criticism on tripadvisor, we felt it was fair. Every dish was cooked and presented with sophistication, full of flavour, fresh and the ingredients were good. We did start to get a little bored with the options towards the 5th day but it was totally forgivable. Daily breakfast was flawless. I loved their healthy fresh juice blends with ginger shots in the morning and their cold brew coffee. The cocktails were great. Amanera has their mixing game switched on. The private beach dinner was SUPERB. We did have our doubts in the beginning because of the hefty price tag close to 1k usd for 2 people but boy was it spectacular. Amanera doesn't kid around when they say 'private' and 'customized'. They closed the whole beach and beach club just for us one evening, with a curated seafood dinner, with the best lobster we ever had with fish and prawns as I have specifically requested, with a lounge bed to stare into the stars after dinner and a bonfire just for the two of us. The entire beach club kitchen and staff were there to wait on the two of us until we wanted to call it a night. Insane. It was the most immaculate and spectacular private dinner at the beach we ever have had to date and will be hard to beat. Was worth every penny. If I were to criticize Amanera, there would be some things. One, the welcome bottle at the casita for this price category should be a Champagne. Not a Prosecco. No no no Amanera. You are charging USD 2.3k++ a night. Dont skimp on the welcome bottle with a cheap 20 dollar bottle. Shameful. Second, every restaurant will automatically charge you for water. USD 8 ++ from the get go. Felt a little trivial to be charged for water at every dining opportunity since there are only 2 restaurants in the property and you are essentially stuck there to spend money daily on F&B every day anyway. Why are you charging for water? Third, the gym is in dire need of renovation and some of the equipments replaced. The gym mats smells, the yoga mats need replacing, the kettle bells are rusty and they don't come in pairs and some machines are just outdated and rusty. There are smaller gyms in luxury resorts that utilize the space better nowadays with better machines. Also the gym bathroom is not as regularly maintained and kept clean as the other toilets in the property. The beach is stunning but it isn't safe for swimming with very strong currents and visible rip tides and the sand really sinks in deep with every step making it hard to get out of the water. There are no life guards in the area, the beach was stunning to admire but we never swam inside. Amanera might wish to at least be transparent and vocal about the risks of the tides from the get go rather than just asking you to sign a liability release form during check-in, in case something happens to you in the property. It'a a standard practice but you can also verbally inform or warn your guests to take pre-caution before entering the ocean due to strong tides and almost quicksand like sand. Some might find it more professional. But other than that, perfection. Even the check-out was immaculate and left a lasting impression. I always feel the check-out is almost as important as check-in as it is the last thing a guest remembers. Often you feel so welcomed during check-in and feel so dismissed and no longer loved upon check-out. But Amanera was perfect til the very last centimeter we left the property. Amazing place. We can't wait to come back.

Wild ferocious dogs on other side of beach - very unsafe. Conclusion: Compared to the other similar Luxury High-end hotels we have stayed in, Amanera did not deliver the expected standard of service and experience.

We picked amanera as our honeymoon destination… emailed them in advance to let them know and to inquire if we could have a specific casita. While the property wasn’t even at 50% capacity they didn’t attempt at all. We loved the property and the friendly staff. The food was okay in the main restaurant and much better at the beach club. I am disappointed at the management for not even doing anything special even tho they knew it was a honeymoon and a special celebration. There was no extraordinary welcome or at turndown anything special. What really bothered me is that we did a lot of the excursions and they really nickel and dime you …. A ceviche class gets 18% service fee and the gratuity added to it since it was hosted at the beach club kitchen. I would definitely not recommend doing their excursions as I feel like that’s where they really just stack it on. Also the package included all meals and they also don’t take into consideration the concept of not nickel and dimming there… when guests stay 5 nights have some common sense and definitely don’t make them feel they are okay getting taken advantage of... I would love to see if any of the other Aman resorts are similar or not?

Located in a secluded region of the DR with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean from most of the property! We stayed 5 nights in spacious Casita 17 with floor to ceiling windows that allowed the exotic & lush landscape to become walls of art! Equipped with a separate seating & bath area, outdoor living area with private pool & outdoor shower, you won’t want to leave this magnificent venue where views of the Ocean are seen from the comfort of a luxurious kind size bed! Lighting, air conditioning & room darkening shades are controlled by smart home technology! Amenities included an array of local snacks, flat and sparkling water and each night a special treat highlighting examples of the unique culture as part of the educational offerings. We enjoyed working out with the instructors, learning to paddle-board and hiking through the neighboring jungle, tasting hand-picked fruit along the way! Finally, we cannot say enough about the exceptional staff which included Eric, Joma, Freddy, Leonardo, Maria, Carlos David, Daniel, Jazmin among others who anticipated our every need. Daily we were asked if we had everything we needed, and we even chatted with GM Larry before our departure. Given the elements, the property is in need of some maintenance & repair which was already planned shortly after our departure! We plan on returning, God-willing, very soon, and many times!

Pros: -Absolutely stunning location! Exceeded/met our expectations based on photos and videos we watched prior! The beach was clean (no seaweed/very pretty!), water was pristine, common grounds were clean (with the exception of their beach club which was run down and needed some updates) restaurant/common area/pool/gym…all very clean and very nice! There were no vendors harassing you even though all beaches in DR are public. They had security so that helped:-) The room itself-incredible! - It was so spacious with a living area that had sliding doors you could close off if you wanted 2 separate sleeping areas (ie bring kids) but no tv in the living room so if you did have kids there’s no tv in there, just FYI. -The closet was a walk-in with his/her spaces with tons of room. -They provided us with a cute sun hat and ball cap as well as flip flops to keep in our closet upon arrival. -The bathroom had his/her sinks and a vanity in the middle, again very spacious! The toilet had a semi-opaque door so not totally private if some people might be weird about that. But there’s another 2 doors to enter the bathroom so you could still have privacy. Shower&Tub…and an outdoor shower by the pool as well. -the TV was retractable and allowed for a full view at the foot of the bed of the pool and ocean! -they had automatic room darkening shades which really were room darkening! -there was a mini fridge and Nespresso machine with complimentary: Nespresso pods, water, sparkling water, beer, milk, Coca Cola, and chocolate bars. There were 2 bottles of wine there but for an added cost. -there were 2 AC units and we were very comfortable temperature wise. -Private pool was VERY private! -there’s was a TON of outdoor space. We absolutely loved this! They had just as much sun space as they did shaded so we were both comfortable and could take a break from the sun any time of the day! Seriously-I could not have picked a better room accommodation. It was amazing! -Cons- The ONLY room con would be the bed wasn’t very comfortable. We even packed a foam mattress cover (based on reviews) and our personal pillows and it just wasn’t very comfortable. -Recommendations- -bring your own pillow -bring snacks…there’s no snacks to purchase there and nothing provided in the room for just snacking on besides chocolate bars and some fruit. -bring a pool float and they’ll blow it up for you -bring a milk frother if you don’t like straight up espresso as your morning drink. (Or bring a small travel size Kerug and your own pods for regular coffee) -we used bottled water for our teeth brushing but they said the water was filtered. I didn’t want to risk it:-) The gym: -there were 2 treadmills, 4 bikes, one elliptical, and one Rower. There were plenty of hand weights, foam rollers, and weighted balls, as well as one cable machine. It was clean and very empty every day. The Spa: -The Amanera spa was off site located on the DLC Playa Grande Golf and Ocean Club property. There was an outdoor sanctuary pool there with a lobby/lounge in an open air covered space…all overlooking the ocean. The treatment rooms that we were in had private bathrooms with showers and locker spaces. The one upstairs was our favorite as it had an incredible view overlooking the ocean. They kept the doors open and we could listen to the ocean during the treatment. The massages were the best we’ve ever had (and we’ve had more than we can count and always visit the spa everywhere we travel) -there was no steam room/sauna but this wasn’t important to us. We did see this on the reviews but the spa itself was much nicer than we expected! -the hotel shuttle takes you there/back and it’s only about 3-5 minute drive. -Hotel Lounge/Bar -We didn’t ever see anyone here and we didn’t use it ourselves but it was huge and had glass windows all around with incredible views. Hotel Beach Restaurant: -Pros- it existed and has great potential. -it was open for lunch daily. We never ate there but had pizza delivered from there for room service (for an additional fee) and the pizza was okay. - cons- the food was pretty terrible for dinner and we didn’t know it wasn’t included in our “included meals”. They didn’t share that with us but just said it was available on Wednesday and Saturday for dinner in addition to the main restaurant. So we got an added fee for the two dinners we had at the beach restaurant. The Main Restaurant: -Pros- -The views were again, stunning. - The staff was so nice and accommodating. - The desserts were good! -The package we had included Continental breakfast, 2 course lunch, 3 course dinner. -Cons- -The food consistently was not great. We really look forward to a good meal, especially dinner, and every single meal was pretty bad. Even when we “upgraded” to something not included, it was disappointing. We ended up going to a neighboring club/restaurants and eating some of our meals there, and they were all incredible. So we knew it wasn’t a matter of resources since they were walking distance away with 5star food. Access to this neighboring club isn't available to non-members so staying at Amanera limits your food choices... -The drinks were quite pricey ($~20-30/drink). I would recommend getting wine/booze at the airport upon arrival or packing it if you’re a drinker. So honestly-for 20k and the Aman brand, everything except the food was on par! There was a few aesthetic things that they said were getting a makeover but overall we felt it looked very nice everywhere we turned minus the normal ocean-front wear and tear of things needing painted/repaired. But it wasn’t so bad we would’ve thought twice about it. All Amanera guests have the option to golf at Playa Grande Golf and Ocean Club as long as they’re not having a private event or during peak season and they set it up in advance. The golf fee is pricey. So it’s not for the casual golfer. But-if you love golf, this is the prettiest golf course we’ve ever been on and we highly recommend! This is NOT an adult only resort and there were actually a lot of kids there. The one bedroom casita would be plenty big for a family of 4. One child would sleep on the sofa and they bring a cot for the other. We weren’t expecting to see so many kids, so that was just a surprise. It really only affected us at dinner when a few of the very little ones were crying and being disruptive. When we travel without our own kids, we typically prefer going somewhere adult only. We knew this wasn’t and again, the only time it even mattered was at dinner. The only reason again I would not rate this resort 5 Stars is because of the food. For the price, we had higher expectations and were let down with the limited food choices and lack of food quality. Here's a video of the beautiful room/resort.

We had a fantastic time here. It took about a couple days to calm down and start taking in the peace that surrounds you here but then you start relaxing and taking note of this natural beauty. No crowds. Saw about 10 people max in 4 days total. First night we were quite disappointed with the food. It was really nothing special and we complained about it as one would not expect this at an Aman resort. The next morning with breakfast Larry the GM came to talk to us and assured us we will not have any issues again. He was right. The food thereafter was fantastic and up to par to what one would expect here…amazing beach dinner BBQ, incredible breakfasts, fully customizable menus (oh the Rum is fantastic ) and outstanding service from the staff. Most of them locals. Elvis was exceptional and waited on us most of the time. Friendly, professional and genuine….ask for him when you are there….he is a fantastic server….Santos and Ana and Felix as well gave us such good service! Amazing beach surrounded by a lush tropical forest. It’s beautiful. We went horse riding which was also a nice experience and all was managed very well for us. I highly recommend Amanera. We will be back !

A magical experience thanks to the near perfect service by the staff and the fact that they mostly all are from the local area and genuinely seem happy and proud to be part of Amanera. The casitas’ large size, design and comfort level are exceptional. The beach is beautiful and mostly empty which we loved. The only part which was not quite perfect was the food - it is very good but for foodies not as exceptional as it could be. Don’t let that stop you tasting this slice of paradise.

Spectacular but expensive
Incredible placing, the beach is beautiful, service impeccable.... stunning location, arquitecture in the hotel... 25 ‘casitas’ totally secluded. Very romantic Food is fresh and really good ... not spectacular. Loved it.... but too expensive
