You and the love of your life are getting married. The planning has been hectic, frustrating, rewarding and, at times, downright chaotic. Now you’re planning for your honeymoon trip, and you’ve decided to go to Washington, DC.
Honeymooning in DC is a wonderful experience with the incredible museums, sights, history, food and nightlife. DC is also easy to explore with its extensive and convenient metro system. Choosing a hotel near a metro station is a great way to save on your budget and get around (especially with the insane traffic and impossible parking!) But, picking the perfect hotel can be daunting, especially with the hundreds of options all around DC. It can be hard knowing which hotel and what area would suit you and your significant other the best. Luckily, our guest blogger, Kate, did all the legwork for you, and shared a list of the best honeymoon hotels in DC.
Embassy Row Hotel
Found in the ever-popular and classy Dupont Circle area, Embassy Row Hotel showcases modern, sophisticated rooms and suites. Upgraded suites also offer luxury toiletries, complimentary drinks and a balcony with an incredible view of DC and Dupont Circle. Honeymooners will love the location, surrounded by upscale restaurants and bars and close to both Georgetown and the National Mall. The hotel also offers a seasonal rooftop bar, grill and pool, that’s intimate and fun, especially for couples!
This is our recommended hotel if you’re staying in the Dupont Circle area.
Hilton Garden Inn
The Hilton Garden Inn is an ideal option for newlyweds who want to stay in Old Town Arlington at a moderate price. Hotel rooms are nicely furnished with a modern feel and some rooms offer a panoramic view. The rooftop lounge area is a great location to relax with the love of your life while taking in the sunset or enjoying an afternoon drink. Old Town is well known for its many boutique shops, intimate restaurants, great bars and beautiful riverside parks. The metro station is only a block away, making exploring the Downtown DC area quick and easy.
If you’re looking for a luxurious honeymoon, then Le Meridien is the place for you. Located in Arlington only a mile from downtown Georgetown, honeymooners will find Arlington Cemetery just a short walk away, as well as the Mount Vernon Trails for cyclists and nature walk enthusiasts. Le Meridien evokes style and posh with sleek rooms featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and upscale furnishings. The upgraded rooms offer incredible city views. The suites add an extra level of comfort with separate living areas and a whirlpool tub for a nice soak for two. The hotel also features a spa and an upscale Italian restaurant/bar lounge that overlooks the Potomac River for an intimate dining experience.
Lorien Hotel and Spa
The Lorien Hotel is a honeymoon paradise situated right in the commercial district of Old Town Alexandria. You’ll find plenty of fun restaurants, shopping and bars in the area, as well as easy access to the metro to explore DC. The modern rooms are smartly furnished, and many feature spa-style bathrooms with rain showers or claw-foot tubs. If you don’t mind splurging (it’s okay to splurge for a honeymoon after all), upgrade to a suite for an added living room and furnished terraces with a rooftop view. The hotel also pampers guests with the availability of a spa (couples massage!) and a free evening wine reception. Relax to the fullest with your new spouse and get pampered at Lorien Hotel and Spa.
Mt Vernon Square Bed and Breakfast
If you’re not interested in staying at large hotels, and prefer something more intimate, cozy and affordable, then the Mt Vernon Square Bed and Breakfast is the best option. Situated in Mt Vernon Square right in DC, the area is close and convenient to all of DC’s major attractions, as well as plenty of nightlife and restaurants. The building is a beautiful restored redbrick building and the interior is incredibly spacious and well decorated. This B and B only has four rooms, but each room offers it’s own elegant comfort. The two favorites are the Rooftop Terrace room, with its intimate setting and views of the city, and the Cleopatra room with its two-person deep soak tub. The family style morning breakfast is also fun for sociable couples, and past guests, shy or outgoing, have enjoyed conversations with an incredibly tasty breakfast. Your honeymoon will feel like a home away from home, and you may not want to leave.
Hotel George is a hip and modern hotel right in Capitol Hill. Great for a honeymoon, the location is incredibly close to the US Capitol Building and National Mall. With the Union Station close by, touring the city and the outskirts is incredibly easy and makes this a great choice for honeymooners looking to take advantage of everything DC has to offer. The hotel interior is filled with modern art portraying George Washington (get it? Hotel George) and fits well with the upscale surroundings. The rooms are elegant and updated and the hotel offers in-room spa service (for a fee of course). The best things about Hotel George is the complimentary evening wine reception and the French bistro with an outdoor terrace. The free fitness center is 24 hours and even has steam rooms as an added bonus.
Capitol Hill Hotel
Capitol Hill Hotel is another great option for a honeymoon, especially for those who want to see all of DC’s great sites. The hotel is only a mile from the Capitol Building and only a few blocks from the Capitol South metro station. You and your loved one won’t have to wander far to find a restaurant or bar, either. Hotel rooms are well decorated and larger than most other hotels. The rooms even feature a kitchen or kitchenette and all provide great view. For an added splurge, you can order in-room massages to loosen up those tense muscles after sightseeing.
Hotel Monaco – Chinatown
Hotel Monaco is a sight to behold, repurposing an 1839 post office into a stylish 4 star hotel. Located in Chinatown, near the Verizon Center (for you hockey fans), the area is a hub of activity and nightlife. Chinatown is full of sights, restaurants and specialty museums like the International Spy Museum and National Geographic Museum. Less than half a mile away you’ll find all the free Smithsonian Museums and the monuments. The hotel rooms and suites are stylishly decorated and offer, get ready for it, yoga mats and on-demand pet goldfish. The suites come with extra perks like a separate living room and whirlpool tubs. Couples can also enjoy the free wine reception every evening, and the French/New American brasserie right in the hotel. Fancy!
The Palomar Hotel is another Dupont Circle favorite, and offers the convenience of being close to the metro station and all the upscale restaurants and bars nearby. The hotel rooms and suites are colorful and contemporary, with some even offering exercise machines right in the room (convenient!). You and your loved one can also take advantage of the in-room spa treatments and complimentary evening wine receptions. Palomar Hotel offers guest bikes, for those who want to enjoy a nice ride to the National Mall. The seasonal heated pool is also a big plus, and features a bar with food service. All this and more make the Palomar a fun and convenient option for a honeymoon.
Dupont Circle Hotel
The last of the Dupont Circle suggestions, the Dupont Circle Hotel combines exceptional service and intimate rooms for a great honeymoon stay. Close to plenty of DC’s finest dining and drinking options, the metro is also conveniently nearby. The rooms are modern with updated furniture, and the marble bathrooms are well designed and large. The suites also include romantic perks like a private balcony with a city view, complimentary in-room drinks and access to a private lounge. The hotel has an incredibly delicious farm-to-table restaurant called Café Dupont, as well as a classy hotel bar – Bar Dupont. The café’s patio terrace gives you a great view of the Dupont Circle neighborhood, and Bar Dupont is a popular location for many of DC’s A-list residents. Overall, Dupont Circle Hotel is an intimate and romantic choice for your honeymoon.
