When it comes to safari honeymoons, Africa tends to get a lot of the attention. We understand why...the stunning landscape and incredible ultra-deluxe eco-glamping lodges at major National Parks make for an unforgettable adventure. But there's a whole world of safaris to discover around the globe, if you know where to look. We collected some of our favorites:
India: Hemis National Park
This insane Himalayan park is home to a protected group of snow leopards, and is one of the few places on the planet where you can get a chance to catch a glimpse of these mysterious, beautiful mountain cats. In this park you can find the highest concentration of these leopards anywhere in the world, getting there is an epic adventure all its own. Thjrty Miles from any airport and filled with mountains, arctic grassland, and tundra, the park is also home to curious weasels, Eurasian brown bears, Tibetan sheep, foxes, and golden eagles. That's just to name a few! The only way to stay there is with specialized camping trips or home stay programs, so your honeymoon here will be anything but conventional. For uber-adventurous couples, that's the whole point!
Brazil: The Pantanal Wetlands
Pantanal are the largest tropical wetlands in the world. You can find jungle cats, tropical parrots, fearsome reptiles, and curious capybaras. Indonesia: Gunung Leuser National Park
Gunung Leuser National Park, in Sumatra Indonesia, is probably the best place in the world to catch a glimpse of jungle orangutans and other monkeys. But these rainforests and rivers teem with other rich wildlife as well, like tigers, rhinocerous, and elephants. This delicate and diverse ecosystem is in danger, and responsible tourism activities help fuel efforts to maintain and preserve this incredible region from development, deforestation, poaching, and other ecological dangers.
Peru: The Amazon Jungle
The Amazon River is one of the largest, most mysterious rivers in the world. Winding through thick jungle through many South American countries, the Amazon is full of incredible discoveries. Peru is a great place to tour it. Take a river boat and enter the heart of darkness, experiencing unique wildlife like pink Amazon River dolphins and tropical birds. With almost no light from development at all, you'll also experience incredible stargazing opportunities from the twinkling night sky above the river!
China: Foping and Changqing Panda Reserves
These neighboring Chinese nature preserves are a protected home for China's endangered pandas. There are lots of other animals in these forests as well, including dozens of endangered species. There aren't many places on the globe where you can see Chinese pandas, so any honeymoon to China should definitely include a safari at one of these preserves. It's a once in a lifetime experience!
Poland: Bialowieza National Park
That's right...eastern Europe has incredible wildlife safaris too. Poland's Bialowieza National Park is home to ranges of incredibe, intimidating, beautiful bison. Eastern Europe's forests are fairtale wonderlands that will have you feeling like you've been transported into a Disney movie.
