It's one of the most unique hikes in the area, and it's just about 30 minutes from downtown Vegas. Make sure you bring LOTS of water, and keep in mind the trails are closed during the summer due to incidents of too many hikers not planning ahead and bringing insufficient water -- but it get so hot in the summer months, you wouldn't want to do a desert hike in that weather anyway.
