At age 18, Grace Justice wasn't planning on marrying her boyfriend just yet. But when her dad came out of a coma only to get a devastating blood cancer diagnosis, she and her beau decided to tie the knot right at the hospital, so that her dad could be there for her special day.
Making for perfect timing with Valentine's Day, this wedding made for a joyful moment for a dad in crisis, and a family dealing with an overwhelmingly difficult and emotional time in their lives.
Even though they were total strangers, hospital staff pitched in to throw the wedding: one staffer baked a wedding cake, and another offered to do the makeup and hair for the bride. Another employee of the hospital moonlights as a floral decorator, so she put together a Valentine's Day wedding bouquet of red roses. The officiant was the chaplain at the medical center, who had his own struggles with cancer over a decade earlier. And the photographer? As fate would have it, one of the nurses has a side job as a professional wedding photographer, so she grabbed her camera and jumped into action.
With the hospital's hallway as their aisle, Grace and her father walked to the "altar" to be wed. It was an emotional moment for all, filled with love and compassion. And as for Grace's dad, doctors say his leukemia coud potentially be curable. Our fingers are crossed for him, but whatever happens, he'll never forget the joy this moment brought him.
It may not be every bride's idea of the perfect dream wedding, but the most important part -- the love of family -- was in no short supply at these heartwarming hospital nuptials.
