Remember the Mom Who Acts as a Stand-in at Gay Weddings? Jamie Lee Curtis Bought the Movie Rights

Remember the amazing mom who volunteers her time as a stand-in mom at gay weddings where the biological mothers don't approve? Well, Jamie Lee Curtis bought the rights to her story and is working on the movie version as we speak!

Oklahoma-based Sara Cunningham wrote a memoir entitled How We Sleep at Night, about her experience as a Christian woman raising a gay son in Oklahoma. Later, she made a viral social media post about volunteering her services as a stand-in for missing moms at gay weddings. And none other than Jamie Lee Curtis herself found out about it. She must have loved the book, because she sent Cunningham a Facebook message to see if she'd like to speak.

Gay Wedding MomCunningham was suspicious at first...after all, what are the chances Jamie Lee Curtis sends you a Facebook message? But it really was her, and the two ended up meeting during one of Cunningham's speaking engagements to talk about the movie version of the book.

It just so happens that Jamie Lee Curtis is a dead ringer for Cunningham, so we assume she'll be playing her in the movie. But as for other details, it's too early to tell. What we know for sure is that the rights have been sold, and if Jamie Lee Curtis will be starring and producing, they're probably on the lookout for a director and writer. Or, possibly, the script writing has already begun. If Jamie Lee Curtis is writing it herself, it's a good bet!

Sara is also the head of FreeMomHugs.org, an organization dedicated to providing resources to LGBTQ+ people in need. This movie will probably be the best PR the organization has ever seen! And, in addition to that, one heck of an inspirational and gay-positive story to tell.
