Honeymoon Experience at Tongabezi and Victoria Falls

Just 30 minutes outside of Livingstone, Tongabezi Lodge is a private haven of romantic cottages and honeymoon suites that that line the Zambezi River, all private and unique in their own way. You can even choose to spend a night on their private rustic island, Sindebezi Island. Our cottage had a very "Cape Town" vibe, with ivory and blue textiles and touches of wood, bamboo and shells. Each cottage overlooks the Zambezi River where you can sit on your private patio and watch the hippos playing in the water. You can't help but feel like you're in a treehouse while at Tongabezi. Everything is so open to nature and the abundance of monkeys frolicking around the property certainly may have something to do with it.

The main guest areas include an open dining space, outdoor dining patio, a boathouse {which is more of a place for reading or catching up on emails}, a pool area and a shop. Meals are served on the outdoor dining area and there's entertainment each night. Our entertainment included local village dancers and singers, which was very enjoyable.

Breakfast is a continental selection of fresh fruits, yogurt, muesli, and fresh baked breads with a menu of hot foods to choose from. For lunch, sandwiches, salads and burgers are available. The chickpea burger there was one of the best I have ever had! Dinner changes with a new 3 course meal each night. Following happy hour with the rest of the guests, you are led to your table which is in a new location each night. You can also arrange to have dinner on the Sand Pad where your dinner is delivered by boat. A not-to-be-missed honeymoon experience!

Livingstone Island Victoira Falls 2

Livingstone is the tourist capital of Zambia, so there is certainly no shortage of activities. The tour of Victoria Falls and an afternoon on Livingstone Island is a once in a lifetime experience and a must-do. The trip to Livingstone Island is a private tour with just 15 people each day. You have the opportunity to "live on the edge" and literally sit on the edge of the falls. After the tour, lunch is served on the edge of Victoria Falls! It is truly an unforgettable experience. Tongabezi offers an abundance of activities and will arrange everything from start to finish. Other activities available include canoeing, visiting a local village, visiting the local school,a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls, and much much more.

Final thoughts

While there are so many places to stay in Livingstone, Tongabezi really is the best of both worlds. You can stay on the river, enjoying all the amenities and perks of the river, and then venture to Victoria Falls, just a short drive away,

The staff at Tongabezi really love what they do and care about their guests. We always felt well taken care of. Every person we met at Tongabezi had been there for over 10 years and when we asked why, they said they love their job...and we really felt that in the experience we had.

Internet is only available in the “boathouse," so if you need to stay connected be prepared to spend time in the hammock with your laptop to get work done.

Honeymooners, expect to spoiled with a welcome bottle of champagne, rose petals on your bed, a romantic bubble bath drawn and our favorite, dinner for two on the Sand Pad. Tongabezi is an absolute honeymoon heaven on the Zembezi River.
