Breakfast was amazing. They have clean-plate ethos. Take as much as you want but eat it it!! Fresh fruit, overnight museli was great. Egg station was good. Can't fault the food and staff. Staff were dressed in traditional costume. Stayed in Lanna room (2203) which was immaculately clean but a little dark. Left reluctantly after 4 nights for beach resort in the south.

A great oasis in the middle of the old City, with nearly everything you need on your doorstep. A special mention goes to Elizabeth from reception, who booked us in and explained everything perfectly on our arrival and ensured we were well settled into our room. She also greeted us every evening she saw us on our return to the hotel from either sightseeing or having our evening meal. The hotel is kept in immaculate condition throughout and every member of staff has a cheerful smile and welcome for you regardless of the time of day or night. Breakfast is served around the pool or inside should you prefer and is more than adequate, with both cooked to order and buffet choices available. Afternoon classes were available everyday on local crafts and skills which seem to be taken under the big Tamarind Tree in the courtyard, which we wish we could have taken part in, but had booked other things to do prior to our arrival, but certainly something that we would love to take part in when and if we visit Chiang Mai again. The hotel makes for a great base for exploring Chiang Mai and the wider area, and this is the 4th different hotel we have stayed at in Chiang Mai, and by far the best. Will we return, absolutely.

The hotel is very central. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are quite quirky and you have the option of a Mosquito net I recommend that you use it. Good shower in room and plenty of soap conditioner etc. Sun beds around the pool don’t get much sun and there are not many. Restaurant for breakfast is ok fresh eggs etc made at the chefs station. On Sundays there is a huge market just outside of the entrance. Free tour is informative and worthwhile. Giving only 4 stars as room was a bit small and door hard to lock more like a door I would expect on a summerhouse. The citronella candle was only lite on day one ?

We have just finished our stay at Tamarind Village and it is easily the best hotel either of us have ever stayed at. Despite being located in the very heart of the old town, there was an impressive sense of calm and tranquillity throughout the hotel which made the entire stay incredibly relaxing. The rooms and amenities are beautifully presented and were perfectly maintained throughout our stay. However the most memorable part of our stay was the kindness of all of the staff there who were always on hand to help however they could. This was perfectly exemplified when I told them of my plan to propose at the hotel. The staff went to the effort to decorate the room with candles and flowers which made the experience so much more memorable. I will always look back very fondly at my time at Tamarind Village and would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone who is looking to stay in Chiang Mai.

The Tamerind village hotel is a tiny piece of quiet and zen amongst a busy town, one minute you're walking the streets and the next you are in the middle of nowhere, with an amazing 200+ year old Tamerind tree outside your door it was breath taking, beautiful rooms, plenty of hanging space, bathrooms beautifully sized, decorated to a high finish. All of the staff were an asset to the hotel, very friendly and keen to share knowledge of the local area and traditions. The village temple walk is a MUST (this is put on by the hotel) will painted small parasol umbrellas underneath the ancient tamarind tree one day, a moment of bliss!

I had the pleasure of staying at Tamarind Village during my visit to Chiang Mai, and it was an experience I won’t soon forget. From the moment I entered the property, I was impressed by the serene atmosphere and beautiful traditional Lanna-style architecture. The hotel is tucked away on a quiet street, making it a peaceful oasis, yet it's still conveniently located within walking distance of the city’s main attractions like the Old City and vibrant markets. The rooms are absolutely lovely, combining local charm with modern comfort. My room had a cozy, rustic feel with wooden furnishings, beautiful textiles, and a comfy bed. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor courtyard area, which provided a tranquil escape after a busy day of sightseeing. The staff at Tamarind Village were exceptional—warm, welcoming, and always ready to offer helpful recommendations. The service was personalized, and it felt like a home away from home. Breakfast at the resort was a highlight, with a wide selection of delicious dishes, both Thai and international. I also loved the small but well-maintained pool area, perfect for relaxing after exploring the city. For those looking to immerse themselves in the culture of Chiang Mai while enjoying a peaceful, comfortable retreat, Tamarind Village is the perfect place. I left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and already planning my return.

From the off Tamarind Village felt like a home away from home. We loved the authentic Thai feel, and the warm welcome from the team. We had a ‘basic’ Lanna room, but this was more than adequate and a lovely size. Bed was very comfortable and was serviced very nicely throughout our stay. The pool area is on the small side, but the pool is a great size, lovely for passing a warm afternoon after sightseeing. Breakfast every morning was excellent and all very fresh, and the lunch we had there was delicious too - we didn’t eat in the evening as there were so many places to explore in Chiang Mai! The Sunday night market goes right outside the front door, not that you’d hear it from the hotel! Tamarind offers a great base, and a wonderful experience in the heart of the city.

This is unreservedly a great place if you like a well appointed hotel, Old City location, superb service, beautiful rooms, excellent food, and very old Tamarind trees; we did! We had a four night stay which was extremely comfortable and quiet, so sleep quality is what you want. On Sundays there is a street market that takes over the Old City and it was a joy to be able to step out of the hotel and be right in the heart of the market. We’d return in a heartbeat.

Tamarind Village was the ideal location for staying in Old Town. The room was small, but so beautifully decorated and cozy (and we were only in it to get ready for the day and when we came back to sleep at night). The included breakfast was delicious and the restaurant on property was great for dinner or a drink before heading back to the room! The pool was also a nice addition. We loved that the hotel felt like you were transported to a tranquil little property even though you were located right in the middle of the city! We were also offered a complimentary traditional thai massage which was a fun surprise as part of our honeymoon! The staff at the spa (and whole hotel) were friendly, professional, and LGBTQ friendly. Would stay at this hotel anytime I came back to Chiang Mai!

We flew into chiang mei from Bangkok and the transfer only took 15 minutes. You enter view a bamboo lined driveway which is totally hidden. We were greeted by staff who gave us lemon towels to wipe our hands and faces along with a cup of tea. The staff spoke very good English and explained all about breakfast and meals rooms and a few little things the hotel organise (free ones). Our room was very quaint and had a large bed with an optional mosquito net we chose to keep it. The room had a lovely old fashioned feel. It was built about 20 years before but felt much older. We always had fresh fruit and 4 bottles of water in the room. Everything in the room worked perfectly the shower was red hot and the copper sink was strange but I quickly started to like it. I appreciate some comments about the lighting. The rooms were a touch dark even with the lights on but we could read and my wife could put her lippy on. The hotel is absolutely beautiful the well grounds were fantastic and well maintained. There pool is small and directly in front of the restaurant. There are only about 16 sunbeds and 4 small seating pods areas but we always managed to find room on the few occasions we used the pool. The night market on a sunday so make sure you book your stay to take in a sunday. The market is amazing and you can literally walk for miles. There are a few rougher streets with girl type bars nearby if you like that sort of thing but there are numerous restaurants in the area from ultra cheap to ultra expensive. There are many restaurants outside the old city along the river and other markets near the marriot. The breakfast is a buffet and we managed to get decent ceylon tea for us british people. They have a chef to cook any combination of eggs for you. You literally have anything from fruit to cereals. I even tried noodles one morning just to sea what it was like. We ate in the restaurant at night on two occasions and had great meals of very high quality its not that expensive either and the serving staff are brilliant. The hotel have a free walking tour of three local temples we did this on the weds with 'Paula' it took two hours and we took food to the monks who blessed the food and thanked us in a lovely ceremony. It was free wow and we actually learnt a lot about the religion. You must do this its every 2 days it I think. The hotel also has other free things such as hand massages and some flower crafting we didn't get change to do these. We organised a trip to the highest mountain and temple in the country via the hotel. It was amazing brilliant English speaking tour guide local market which was very small but amazing to visit as it was so different he goes all the time and we could taste all sorts of things we had never seen before. The guide purchased lots of food here for his tea. The off into the hills for the tour it was awesome. The driver was a hotel employee who was also lovely. Yes its cheaper to book in the town but this wasd a VIP tour, very special. As special thanks to Pinky & Paula on reception what fantastic staff they are so helpful chatty nothing was ever to much trouble for them. They are a credit to your hotel. I wish I had booked to stay longer here we loved it we simply didnt want to go to our next destination.

We stayed here for 4 nights on our honeymoon and had a lovely time. We received the warmest welcome here during our entire stay in Thailand and the staff were incredibly helpful. The hotel is very central and you can walk anywhere. We arrived on a Sunday and the huge night market was immediately outside the hotel - this is a must visit as the street food is super affordable and tasty. We have also never seen a night market as big as this! Included in our package was a complimentary spa treatment - the spa was amazing and very relaxing. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was lovely - very reasonable prices too. Excursions - we visited sticky waterfalls (very fun), had a private tour of Doi inthanon national park (make sure you do a private tour so you can do more in the park on the day as it is huge, we also got taken to less busy places), a cooking class (this was very fun and around £20 pp including transport to and from the cooking school). Also visit the temples on an organised walk to learn more about Thai culture. The only slightly annoying part of the room was that it was quite dark (even with all lights on), I think this is because of the traditional Thai feel to the hotel so it wasn’t a problem, but it was maybe a little tricky to get ready in the evening. We would love to stay at the Tamarind again. Thank you! Thank you!

Lovely hotel with a 200 year old tamarind tree at its heart. It has a nice tranquil feel and it has character, with very helpful staff. We had a small balcony and were given a clothes rack to dry some small items of clothing which was very helpful. The room and bathroom were good (perhaps a little on the dark side, especially for reading at night). A nice pool but given the layout of the pool, sandwiched between the lobby and the breakfast/dining room, it all felt quite claustrophobic and if you did manage to bag a lounger in the shade, you are so close to the next person, that it's uncomfortable (especially if they choose to eat fried food, are themselves bathed in aftershave and then go on to snore after their meal 🙄). I can't see how else they could arrange the pool area, but it's not the highlight of the stay (although swmiingin in the pool is nice) As you enter the hotel, there is a lovely bamboo canopy that leads to the main entrance

A negative for us was the darkness of the rooms (lack of electric and natural light) and the cost of eating in the restaurant. We ate in the restaurant and a number of surrounding establishments. To be fair there was not a lot of difference in the quality of the food, but the Tamarind Hotel was the more expensive. What appears to be a wider problem in Thailand is their ability to launder washing. At the Tamarind Hotel we sent a small number of items out for cleaning and they shrunk. We had the same problem at another hotel on this trip. However, the stars of the stay were staff. Very friendly and helpful. Even when I reported the matter of our clothing shrinking staff responded quickly and positively. So to conclude…. a nice hotel for a short stay. Look to try other local establishments for evening meals. The staff at the Tamarind Hotel were excellent.

Beautiful calm oasis in the midst of the old city. The hotel is boutique in the old Lanna style and caters for all that you need. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel is lovely and peaceful considering that it is in the heart of a busy city. Breakfast was great with lots of fresh fruit and eggs made to your request. We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening as the vegetarian choices were limited but it did look lovely. The pool was perfect and towels are provided and it is a lovely place to chill after sightseeing. We did the guided village walk provided by the hotel which was great to get our bearings and the guide was very knowledgeable and informative. All the staff are very friendly and helpful but a special thanks to the kind reception staff who sorted out our transfer issue. A beautiful secluded spot with a perfect location and excellent staff. Thanks to all who made our visit so memorable.

Breakfast is lovely lots of choice in nice restaurant overlooking the pool. We stayed for 2 single nights with a night away in between so they looked after our luggage whilst away. Very comfortable stay. Would suggest the sun lounger bed cushions need changing and upgrading as existing ones look very grubby and our a cloth material so get wet from previous occupants very easily

My husband and I were treated to two nights at Tamarind Village by a good friend. We had dined at the hotel before, but never stayed there. It was an unforgettable experience - we were treated like royalty. The room was extremely comfortable and well appointed - we both slept very well. Breakfasts were delicious, and it was particularly notable that the coffee was excellent, both in flavour and temperature - so many Thai establishments serve lukewarm coffee. We had a special dinner there on our second night with a magnificent array of Thai food with exceptional wines. Thank you, Tamarind staff, and particularly Kuhn Jaofa, for making our stay with you a memorable one.

What a wonderful boutique hotel, right in the centre of Chiang Mai old town. Our room, 2106, was lovely, simply furnished but with more than enough storage space. Plenty of hangers, which was great. The food at breakfast was lovely with both buffet and an "egg station" where you could order your choice of eggs, omelettes etc. The staff at the hotel are simply wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. All so smiling and polite. We stayed 4 nights and went on the hotel's organised walking tour to a number of temples and places of interest. The hotel also arranged a trip to an elephant sanctuary, which was wonderful. The location of the Tamarind Village was excellent, with everything in Chiang Mai within easy walking distance. We can highly recommend the hotel if you are visiting Chiang Mai. The hotel really spoilt us and having arrived at our next hotel in Phuket, we wish we were back at Tamarind Village!

The hotel is conveniently located within the old city. I would describe it as rustic and charming rather than smart. We had to break our stay at the hotel ie one night, a break to go to a bush camp and then two further nights. We were booked into a deluxe Lana room but the first nights room was much bigger than the one we were allocated for the second two nights. I did check with reception that the second room was the same category as the one we stayed in at our first night. They explained that rooms do differ due to the layout of the hotel so not much I could do on that basis. The rooms are a bit rough around the edges and quite dark but in part that was its charm. We had breakfast and a dinner by the pool which was so nice. The food is very good eg Bircher muesli, omelettes and pancakes. Our evening meal was very tasty and worth staying in for if you rather not go out. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Chiang Mai is a great base for exploring northern Thailand eg staying at an elephant bush camp and also exploring the national parks and all the various temples.

The breakfasts were great with plenty of choice and the one evening meal we had was lovely. A nice pool area. Our room was very clean and well maintained. It had character but our slight disappointment was that it was a bit small and only had one small window for natural daylight. We would definitely stay there again but, perhaps, choose a different room.
