Great location in a heritage building with awesome staff. We couldn't be happier with our choice of hotel. We were originally planning in staying in Richmond and using the sky train to get to the down town/ English bay area but found the Sylvia rates very comparable. View of the bay and close enough to walk to most of the best sites to see.

Love. Love. Love. We will be back! Again. Love the area. Dinner was fabulous! Music was excellent!! And, our dogs got to join. The parking is convenient and you can walk to Stanley Park, stores and restaurants, tea house, beaches, etc.

The Sylvia is always wonderful and we had a great two night stay. Even when it rains, as it did one day, walking in Vancouver is fun and there is so much to see and do. Just walking out the Sylvia’s front door gives you access to the magnificent scenery...

The Sylvia is always wonderful and we had a great two night stay. Even when it rains, as it did one day, walking in Vancouver is fun and there is so much to see and do. Just walking out the Sylvia’s front door gives you access to the magnificent scenery of English Bay and dozens of restaurants. The breakfast in the Sylvia is generous and tasty and the service is terrific.

The location is the highlight of this beautiful old building. Do wish you had a small gym! The walks around this area are lovely, Stanley park has been a favourite of mine since I was a child. Ordered seafood chowder thru room service and it was delicious and hot!

Highly recommend the Sylvia to all. the chance to walk along English bay in the morning was just an added bonus.

The hotel is ideally situated on the beach for walking along the path. Great for people watching and the view is spectacular. Restaurant was very busy but worth a short wait for the food. Our room was very clean a good size and peak-a boo views.

We have stayed at the Sylvia many times. It is always our first choice for a city vacation (we live in the suburbs of Metro Vancouver). Excellent location, charming hotel with great staff. Very nice bistro and lounge and the food is always good.

I love the Sylvia and have always had a great stay at the hotel. But I have to say that this last visit was a bit less enjoyable for the notable amount of canine guests. I understand that dogs are welcome at the hotel and I’m sure it must be a desirable location to bring a dog, being so close to the beach, but it really seemed a bit much this time. The Sylvia has a quaint and charming lobby, which quickly seemed very small with a few large dogs in it. I don’t think we ever had a trip in the elevator without the presence (and/or odour) of a dog. The noise of dogs coming and going in the hallways was noticeable. And as we were taking the stairs down to the exit on our last day (to avoid the elevator) we had to step over dog 💩 that had been tracked in and smeared all over those beautiful marble stairs. I know traveling with pets is quite common these days, and the hotel does a perfect job of cleaning the rooms so there is no evidence of pets for new guests, but perhaps there could be a limit on how many dogs can stay in the hotel at any given time. Like I said, it was just bit much. And I like dogs!

I had a few people over for dinner at your restaurant to celebrate my boyfriend’s 70th. The good was excellent, service superb and the atmosphere fantastic. We stayed over for one night. Your rooms are spacious, and very well appointed. It was the perfect way to celebrate a big birthday....

We had such an amazing time! It was a last minute booking, as we wanted to get out of the house to celebrate Valentines Day away from home. :) We loved our time there and we will definitely go back again!

All good. Note it was for an anniversary and they noted it and gave use window table. Great bar and lounge without loud music. You could really enjoy a drink with a view. Prices reasonable considering todays comparatives.

We love the Sylvia. Old fashioned non generic hotel that is actually part of the surrounding community. The beds are comfortable, the rooms spacious relative to other hotels especially at that price. Reliable, comfortable, friendly and affordable for us!

We always stay at The Sylvia when we are in Vancouver. The location at English Bay and the great surrounding restaurants, the charm of the historical building, the amazing service from booking to checking out, and the price make it our first choice.

I booked our stay for my wife’s birthday. She was greeted by name with “Happy Birthday” on arrival. The bonus $150.00 Mastercard was used to pay for part of our stay, making it an exceptional deal. We had a great prime rib dinner that night. On Tuesday it was breakfast followed by checking out. We had noticed the brunch menu had prime rib hash. Even though it was Tuesday, when we asked the server if it would be possible for the kitchen to prepare it. She checked: it was, and so we each ordered it. This is service and food worthy of a 5 star rating! The old-world charm of the Sylvia is outstanding, and the location and views are stunning.
