Not 5 star with a horrible attitude to pricing!
This was the “relax” leg of our Malaysia to Hong Kong tour and in that respect we got what we were looking for… but… There is no way this is a 5 star resort, it’s very much in need of a refresh and a upgrade on the services, food, rooms...
This was the “relax” leg of our Malaysia to Hong Kong tour and in that respect we got what we were looking for… but…
There is no way this is a 5 star resort, it’s very much in need of a refresh and a upgrade on the services, food, rooms etc..
The pools are warm but the loungers have no padding and the floors of the pools need re-surfacing.
The beach area is small and inviting, but is a no go zone due to jellyfish, sharp corral etc… warnings, we never saw anyone (including us) go in the water.
We ate at the resort once and after a 40 minute wait we were served store bought pizza… this was removed from our bill when we complained.
Finally the pricing they want to charge you for drinks and food is ridiculous to the point it’s a distraction, on our 2nd day we took a grab to the nearest 7-Eleven (5mins away) and stocked up on essentials at a 5th of the price.
The hotel clearly thinks it can extract what it wants for substandard food and drink in the belief you will put up with it, we didn’t!
The only value we encountered was the 7-9pm happy hour at the beach bar, other than that it was a rip off.
The sunsets are breathtaking but that’s not enough to give this hotel anything more than a two!

Beautiful lobby area with seating and bar area.
Check in was handled smoothly and staff were helpful and polite.
The pool area is large with an adult only pool available.
This is a large hotel and when full it is very busy. Breakfast is incredibly busy but we did not have to queue to be seated.
Rooms were large and comfortable with a balcony and very effective air-conditioning.

The resort is beautiful, on a peninsula with sea on all sides. The pool area is excellent and with an adults only section. Kids are catered with a large pool with slides and waterfalls.
The rooms are comfortable and well appointed.
The only draw back is this is a very large resort and is very busy, many families stay here so expect kids running amok.
Breakfast is an experience to behold, what can only be described as a human feeding frenzy !

Check In Was Okay
Hotel Is Very Nice With All The Christmas Decorations And Everyone Was Friendly.
However The Heater Temperature Was Inconsistent During Our Second Night And Was Switch To Another Room.
But To Our Horror The Second Room Was Full Of Defect And Supect That No One Have Stay In That Room Recently.
Bathtub Got Hair, Fingerprint Found On Glass Panel, Hair Was Found Underneath The Drawers And No Hangers.
Paid For A Hefy Price To Experience Such A Experience And As For The Horizen Lounge Doesn't Worth The Price Compare To Other Lounge In Sabah Hotel.
Variety Of Food In Lounge Is Less And Service Only Small Cakes In Between And Staff There Are Not Very Attentive
Overall Wouldn't Recommend To Stay.
As There Are Better Good Hotel In Sabah.
Service In Cafe Tatu Is Highly Appreciate.
Very Good And Fast Service Despite A Very Huge Crowd And Efficient.

This is a family hotel. For a couple, it’s not enough attention to the kind of experience that we would care about. To me, it’s the details that differentiates the hotels I would return to and those I wouldn’t go back to.
Pros: the room was ok. Nice view. door guy is great, can really explain things to you well.
Cons: little details are left out; no bathmat, pillows are not good, etc. the reception was filled with screaming children and probably the biggest ‘no’ for me was having to wait 20 mins to get into the breakfast area.
Like I said, it’s a hotel for families with children who are up early, take a long time at breakfast, have pool facilities where their kids can be kids, etc.
For us who are a couple who have the luxury of waking up later — and therefore have to wait in line for breakfast — choose another place.
I also don’t appreciate hotels building new wings when their breakfast area clearly cannot accommodate the increase in guests. It’s just a money move and clearly lacks the thoughtfulness around the guest experience

We have just spent a week at this resort. What a fabulous hotel!
The hotel is large yet it still feel personal. It is spotless and every member of staff from front desk to the lifeguards at the pools were so very friendly and couldn1t do enough for you
The hotel is quite isolated and you cannot walk into the main town. However you can get a Grab taxi to get into town which are very cheap and it only takes approx
10/ 15minutes where you can find some great restaurants
Rooms are fabulous, large and spacious. We were lucky to be in room 9715 which had a view of the sunset from our balcony to die for!
The bed was large and soo comfortable
Room facilities were excellent; safe, iron, coffee machine, kettle, fridge,
Balcony was a good size with amazing views
Bathroom was a good size with both a walk in shower and a fantastic large bath and enough towels to arm a small army. Every evening approx 6pm, staff came to the room to ensure that we had enough clean towels, coffee etc. Excellent service
Facilities in the resort are excellent.
An adult only pool as well as a childs pool with slides with sunbeds and pool towels always available
Spa
Lounge Bar as well as a Beach Bar and Sunset bar
A number of restaurants including a Chinese restaurant and buffet
Hotel own jetty to get you to outlying islands( chargeable)
Breakfast was excellent but very very busy!!!
Our only complaint was that as fast as food was being brought out people were like locusts and taking plates full which I appreciate that the hotel cannot be responsible for guests behaviour but there were times where we had to wait and wait for food. The food itself was good with great choices when you got it!
This was the same experience at the International Buffet evening and show. My husband and I got to the restaurant as it opened at 6pm but it was a shambles on the night we went. Again it was other guests being greedy taking 5/6 lobsters/ crabs and steaks at a time, really no need to do this!
We paid a lot of money for very little as we could not see the show either as people were crowding round the artists. Very disappointed!
There needs to be a better system to stop people being greedy. Fine if people eat the food that they take but we saw loads of food just being left which was so frustrating. There should be a limit on the number of lobsters/ steaks that people take so everyone can enjoy what is on offer
I did make complaint along with a few other people who felt the same as we did but we got no feedback which was disappointing.
However , overall this is an excellent place to stay and we would not hesitate to return. Just feel that the buffet breakfast and dinners need some attention so everyone can enjoy it

The clientele is overwhelmingly Chinese and intermediate. I have to admit that I don't understand the very high price of this resort and I wonder whether the fairly rare Western clientele doesn't pay a much higher price. The rain was very frequent and overall the stay was disappointing.
One strong point: the calm and pleasant executive club with a very efficient service desk and problem solving, for example with your plane ticket.

We stayed here for three nights after touring Borneo (Sepilok, Sandakan, Kinabatangan river and Danum Valley). We wanted a low stress convenient place to rest for a few days before heading for Singapore. This hotel really delivered. It is very close to the airport (10 minutes) so low hassle for transfer. However, apart from occasionally noticing a plane coming into land, we were not conscious that the airportwas so near. It felt very tranquil. Despite this, being described as an older resort hotel, it was excellent. Spacious rooms, meticulously clean and a very high-level of customer service in terms of number of staff and attitude. We would particularly commend Rohani for simply brilliant service at breakfast. Also the Taiji / tai chi instructor Wong Shin Fah. He was excellent and this hotel is the only one offering Taiji. The food offer is goodand locations such as the Sunset Bar offer a sophisticated service. Very popular with selfie taking young people!! Only shame was we were unable to swim at the small beach due to jelly fish, but the pools were an ok substitute. All in all a good experience and would recommend to anyone seeking a few days of rest with low travel hassle.

Just arrived at this hotel, no one to help our bags from the car, breakfast was carnage, lots of tables with half eaten food and left for birds to peck at, the food was not the best but does have variety. The pool area is tired with paint peeling from the pool base, general maintenance up keep is poor in my opinion. Drinks are not that affordable if you like alcohol, £12 a pint😟. We went into town to a places called waterside, there are lots of places to eat and drink at very reasonable prices. (Used Grab app) Location setting is very beautiful looking out over the Sea, islands and mountain range.

A lovely week break away in a superbly relaxing hotel with amazing customer service.
Visited the Rasa Ria as well.
Poop clean, room spotless and staff very helpful.
Food was superb and the ambience was relaxed and inviting.
We would love to come back some day to visit for longer.

A couple of nights at Shangri La Tanjung Aru before heading to eastern Borneo were an excellent choice.
This property is quite dated for sure, but has aged gracefully.
Just don’t expect any state of the art amenities and you will then enjoy gorgeous sea views, huge swimming pools and a nice 9 holes pitch and putt.
Our Tanjung Wing Executive suite was large, nicely appointed and well kept.
Two full bathrooms were in perfect conditions and the large private terrace a real pleasure.
We were greeted by a much appreciated bottle of sparkling wine, a generous bowl of fresh fruits and a handwritten welcome note, courtesy of the management. Really nice touches, thanks!
As extremely nice were all the staff members we had the pleasure to deal with.
A cherry on the cake: the Horizon club lounge offers impeccable hospitality, with free drinks and canapés; breakfast in this area was perfect as well, either in terms of of service and food options.
This resort-style hotel probably caters mainly to families with kids but can be enjoyed, for a short stay, by adults too.
We would gladly return.
