Exceptional pools and services, Staff is very friendly and helpful. First I was disappointed with saunas not been available 24 hours like on previous occasions we visited. We stayed in the new fancy pod nice and clean with air conditioning unit, Unfortunately with the dusk we start hearing pronounce rats scratching under the floor for the rest of the night. It was not very nice and for some people maybe horrifying experience, We had a chat with other pods occupants and they had rats to. We notified staff and hope they will take it on board.

This lovely resort is perfectly situated to break up a journey to or from the West Coast. Nice little arrangement of hot pools in a natural setting, and options for saunas... if that is your thing. Daytime bathing will be accompanied by clouds of sand flies - as daytime anything is in that part of the world. Hotel rooms are spacious and well appointed, and the beds comfortable. We opted for a package with a "gourmet dinner", and the quote marks are there for a reason. Uninspiring and rather bland fare, from a vegetable soup that cried out for seasoning, to a main of grey lamb - sadly below expectations. A 45 minute wait between main and dessert was inexplicable, but might have related to being served by three different people over the evening. Breakfast was much better - prompt, healthy, good portion sizes, but even here they managed to leave a slightly sour note by charging extra for tea or coffee - wringing a bit more out of those coffee addicts. Surely a better impression could be made by just including coffee with breakfast - even a simple plunger pot. I'd perhaps go back for the pools some day, but having only the resort restaurant as a dinner option will make me think twice.

Not good Value at $515 for one night Escape package for two.
Shabby accordion and general lack of maintenance. Very uncomfortable lumpy mattress. Dinner was very nice but the breakfast very poor due to the the poached eggs which has not been sufficiently drained resulting in soggy toast. We were also shocked to learn a drink of any kind was not included in our breakfast but charged as an extra!!
The steam room was so hot it was actually unbearable. There are no health and safety notices regarding the danger of immersing ones head under the water due to the type of bacteria in the pools. This was pointed out by the reception staff but should also be in writing.
Wi-Fi is free for only 15 minutes then be becomes a chargeable extra.
We were also surprised to find the lounge closes at 9-30 pm.

The massage was very well done and the lunch extraordinarily good but nevertheless this didn't at all justify the price.

Stayed at Maruia Hot Springs for my wife’s birthday, and it was an exceptional experience! The property and mountain view rooms are fantastic, but the staff truly stood out more. Despite a busy dinner service, the restaurant team greeted every guest with a smile, and the way the staff professionally handled an unruly guest near the pool was commendable. As someone who travels extensively across the North and South Islands, I can confidently say the service here is outstanding. Highly recommended!

They are still renovating but the Staff were still smiling and making us feel we were special. We will be back once reno are completed.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. My husband and I booked the 'Camp & Indulge' package for $344 after a taxing 4-day tramp, expecting a relaxing stay. The website and booking confirmation clearly stated it included a 'camping spot for two.' What they failed to mention was that this 'camping spot' is nothing more than a gravel parking lot for campervans, which we couldn't use since we only had a tent. We were left with a tiny patch of grass already overcrowded with two other tents.
When we approached the staff, they were dismissive, and after speaking to the manager, we were offered a refund and told to find somewhere else to stay. Given the location in the middle of nowhere, this was an incredible inconvenience. I asked if this issue of inadequate space for tents had come up before, and they confirmed it had—multiple times. Shockingly, they said upper management had been notified but never bothered to fix it. They didn't even update their website or booking confirmation to warn customers of the lack of space for tents.
To make matters worse, when I asked to use their Wi-Fi to find alternate accommodation, I was offered a measly 15 minutes of free Wi-Fi after which I would have to pay for a Wi-Fi ticket. This place is a complete letdown and they don't seem to care about their customers, I would not recommend them to anyone.

We were passing through the area so thought some hot springs time would be fun. We called the day before to confirm the package we wanted because the website was not clear. It was a Twilight package and the person we talked to explained it and said we could just walk in the next day and pay. We arrived just before 5:30...and could not find anyone to check in with. Waited about 10 minutes at front desk..knocked on office..nobody. server setting up tables for dinner was not interested in helping us. So we went looking for somebody and seeing the spa. Found nobody and started to get bad vibes about the spa....so we left. Given the feeling we started to get about the spa we will not try again another time.

The location and room were lovely but that’s about it. I was quite shocked how a “4-star” hotel could be such a disappointment. Issues include the food, unwelcoming reception staff, the lack of a relaxation lounge due to construction works (and no alternative offered), the “private spa” session and the high cost. This place really isn’t worth the money if you are staying overnight.
The food price would be fine if they delivered on the quality - unfortunately this is not the case. When you stay in a room, then lovely coffee and tea is provided, yet if you want it with your overpriced breakfast in the restaurant then you are charged high prices for this. Some of the food came late and was undercooked.
The private pool session wasn’t that nice as they felt dingy and the main pools themselves are much nicer.
They need to focus on improving their food, particularly if they are charging these prices, and providing alternative relaxation areas if some areas are noisy due to construction works.
Addition bonus’s would be to provide stretching areas for after pool/sauna use and/or additional seating to read a book.
We had been staying in a tent up to this point and this was planned as a treat. We were massively disappointed and wished we had never stayed here.

Guided classes are available, in the book it says these are 30mins, although the sauna was unavailable for almost 2 hours. When feedback was given on this staff were dismissive and initially rude. You pay for the facilities so when the facilities are not available as expected it does not seem unreasonable to feed this back.
Food is presented as fine dining but lacks the delivery. Everything seems to have salad with it, even what seemed to be a conventional breakfast. The salad seems to have replaced carbs, even if the meal on the menu is listed with carbs. Perhaps this is fine if you weigh 50kg but meals left me hungry and you pay well for that privilege.

My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon at Maruia Hot Springs, and it was everything we hoped for—and more. This place is such a peaceful escape!
The hot spring pools were amazing, and having 24/7 access was great, and evening soaks were the best. The sauna and steam room were great too, and we loved that there were extended hours to use them. The complimentary fitness, wellness, and sauna/cold plunge classes were a fantastic bonus—Andrew’s sauna and scrub session was a real highlight for us! Nadia, the wellness manager, was so lovely and made sure everything went smoothly.
We also treated ourselves to spa services, and the NZ body scrubs were incredible—our skin felt ridiculously smooth afterward.
The food here? Delicious! Every meal was fresh and full of flavor.
There’s a nature walk that starts and ends right at the hotel, which was perfect for us. It’s more like a mellow hike that takes you down to the river and a historic old gold panner’s cabin. It was such a cool touch to learn a bit of the area’s history while enjoying the scenery.
We stayed in one of the rooms, but they’ve also got camping and glamping options. The whole place feels cozy and well-thought-out, and knowing it’s an off-grid hotel powered by a hydrogenerator just makes it even cooler.
We left feeling completely refreshed and rejuvenated. Maruia Hot Springs is such a unique spot—highly recommend it to anyone looking for a mix of relaxation, adventure, and a little history.

My wife selected this place. Great choice. The food was a fine dining experience considering the remote location. Nearby trails to walk. We stayed in a pod. Cozy. The bed was heavenly. Walking distance to the potty. The spa was very relaxing with the various pools. There is a cold plunge pool. We both had booked a message. Mine was great. I had some spots well worked on my left calf and back. The red Beech forest is beautiful.

Absolutely refreshing and beautiful experience. We loved it. We wished we stayed longer.
Highlights
+ Room comforts with everything you need including bug spray (heaven) and soft robes and towels.
+ the tea selection was incredible, we had the sleepy tea mix and had a wonderful sleep.
+ the hot springs and outdoor areas are free to use all hours which is wonderful. We tried it all (sauna, steam room, plunge, hot and cold showers, and hot springs). It was misty rain and nighttime but still very relaxing and enjoyable.
+ there is insect repellent on tap which smells amazing and is handy for outdoor.
+ we explored the nature trails and got close to the river which was awesome, decent amount of sandflies so cover up if need.
+ the meals were great with fresh ingredients and very nutritious.
+ I bought many of my gifts to take home from here, such a wonderful friendly vibe.

It was an amazing and revitalising stay at Maruia hot springs. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in a classic room package that included a private bath. The room was clean with everything we needed for our stay. The hot pools and sauna were great with stunning views.
Things we loved: the wellness activities (Nadia is a star), private lounge space with a lovely view. We sat there for a few hours reading and devouring our plant power platter. The hot pools (suggest to place a sign of water temp by each pool so people can distinguish and stay in the pool with a temp they prefer). We had dinner service once during our stay. They had a nice vegan option and enjoyed our meal (suggest to possibly add more food options in case people are going to have dinner here more than once). We love the friendliness of the staff. Each one of them should get a raise for doing a variety of jobs, being flexible and accomodating at the same time. Overall, it was a lovely stay and will recommend to my whanau.

We stayed in the campground and found that the toilets were clean and close by. However, showers were a bit further away.
The pools were lovely, but make sure to use the provided insect repellent! Sand flies love the pools too.
The food at restaurant is delicious, but I found serving sizes to be quite small.
While you’re there, make sure to partake in the wellness classes offered. I really enjoyed the guided sauna experience!
Unfortunately, our stay was minimally disrupted by ongoing works and despite indoor pools being marked on the map we were provided, they were no longer available.

This was a well worthwhile visit - more of an experience than just somewhere to stay. Its all very well set up, with warm and comfortable rooms, and a range of activities included in the price, as well as open access to the pools. We did the room, dinner and breakfast package, and would recommend this - the food was very good, and it made the whole time there very relaxing. You have use of the pools up to 3pm on the day you leave, and we'd highly recommend staying a while for this, as the pools get quiet and you can really enjoy the place.

We absolutely loved our day at Maruia Hot springs today. We arrived with some trepidation after reading lots of reviews. But I can honestly say it was great. We only had a few hours but are already planning on coming back and staying. We met people that had lunch and dinner and they said the food was amazing. The sauna was too hot for me but lots of people enjoyed it. There was a cold plunge pool, a steam room as well as 3-4 pools and a lounge area, a large restaurant and lots of outdoor seating. It's definitely more natural and relaxing than some other hot pools.
