We used to spend a lot of time in Tortola back in the 1990’s and this was our first time back in 25 years. We chose to stay at Long Bay because we used to rent houses, but we really wanted to be taken care of and have a nice, relaxing break.
It was absolutely terrific. All of the people there, especially Akil and Hani, were super nice. The rooms were great, we stayed in an ocean view suite!! Comfortable, great views, couldn’t have been better.
The food is great. The restaurant and bar definitely work on “island time” so be prepared to sit back and relax while your food comes!!
We are already booking for next year!!!

My wife had a medical emergency and all of the staff at Long Bay Beach Resort helped get her to hospital. Special mention to Akil Anthony and his colleagues they were fantastic & so kind. You are all very special people. A massive thank you from the both of us.
Charming hotel, very kind and attentive staff, and beautiful surrounding beaches!
Would very much recommend. The hotel has a nice gym and a beautiful sunset view.
The breakfast buffet is a nice touch.
And Lalit is the man to take care of things!

Just had 4 terrific days at LBBR. The setting is breath-taking. First-rate amenities - the spa and gym are lovely. We had an ocean view room, amazing beach-facing shower! All of the public spaces to hang out and have a drink or eat were terrific. We ate at the restaurant every night (we were early in season so limited options elsewhere) and had very good meals. Wine selection is terrific. All staff extremely helpful and friendly. Our best afternoon was spent nearby (free transportation from resort) at Smuggler's Cove, secluded with two fantastic beach bars. Only drawback is the need for a car. Resort will arrange taxis, but they tend to be expensive.

We had the pleasure of staying at Long Bay for a week at the end of June. We had a wonderful time. We stayed in an ocean front suite that was lovely. The only downside was the difficult locks to the patio that we could never figure out. The staff is friendly and responsive to any requests. The restaurant is great, however, the menu is the same for the entire stay. We did venture out to Sugar Mill one evening (we stayed there last time) and the restaurant is fabulous. We took the ferry to JVD twice and the ferry to Norman Island twice. It is very easy to do and we preferred the beaches there than the on property beach and Smugglers Cove. We loved coming back to our beautiful room at Long Bay after! We spent several afternoons at the pool and loved Susan behind the bar!!! Bring inter tubes for the pool and beach days. It was so much fun floating the days away. The gym is great with everything we needed and nobody was ever in it! I really wanted to give five stars, but there were several areas for improvement. When you booked a taxi the day before you wanted it, you showed up that day and nobody had a clue you had reserved one. Double check taxi reservations and times. Also the bartender at the restaurant bar spent more time on his phone than connecting with guests. A shame as there is so much potential for this bar to be great. The view and location is spectacular. Also - which is not the hotel's fault - the rooster situation kept me from sleeping the entire week. My husband was not bothered by it, unfortunately, they drove me crazy waking me up at all early hours. Bring ear plugs. You won't regret it. We usually don't stay at the same hotel twice, but I would definitely consider staying at Long Bay again when in Tortola. The BVIs are a special place and Long Bay is a great addition! Many thanks to the employees that made this a relaxing and fun vacation!

My husband and I just got back from 9 days at Long Bay and we had the absolute best stay! Our beach front room was gorgeous, and had everything we needed. The best part of the stay (aside from the gorgeous property) was the staff. Everyone was friendly and went above & beyond to make our experience wonderful. Lalit helped us plan a ton of stuff before we even got to the resort including a beautiful anniversary dinner, which was awesome! Akil greeted us everyday and made us feel like family! He helped us every time we had a question. Stephan was so friendly and gave us great recommendations of things to see and do while we were there. He also made our whole trip so amazing from helping with our anniversary dinner, to making us awesome cocktails at the bar! Clevon at the pool bar was great! All the ladies at the restaurant and cafe were so friendly too! We highly recommend staying at Long Bay and we hope to be back in the near future!
Our food and beverage favorites:

What a wonderful experience. The location was breathtaking, and the rooms were spacious, well-appointed, and sparkling clean. We had dinner on the property and that was quite nice. All of that alone would have made for a memorable trip. But it was the outstanding service levels that set this property apart. There was no such thing as "island time" here. Everything was handled with the utmost efficiency and notably, with a smile. Special shout out to Miguel who went above and beyond to take care of us. I would recommend this location without hesitation.

We absolutely loved our stay at Long Bay, the newly refurbished resort is fabulous, chic yet understated. We had a ground floor room straight out onto the beach, with sunbeds right outside. The sea is quite wild but we didn't mind as it kept the cruising hordes away which meant the beach was very exclusive. There is a great pool, gym and spa so everything you could need. We took yoga classes on the beach twice a week, somehow yoga at home will never be the same! The restaurant and bar were good with a reasonable choice. Service could be a bit ad hoc but generally good and mostly always a smile. Our room was large with amazing showers, as someone else has pointed out though more hanging space is needed. The hotel has a lovely vibe, yes it's Caribbean which means things are a bit laid back, but we are used to that and it's best to arrive with a chilled attitude. Akil deserves top marks for always doing his very best to help with a friendly smile, the guy works his butt off and is always visible. Patrick the manager was very effective when needed, we would have liked to see him more, but he seems to run a pretty good ship. Would we return - without a doubt!

Just got back from 2 fabulous weeks. We had an oceanfront top floor room that couldn’t be better. Clean, modern, relaxed vibe. (Needs more hooks/ hanging spots for damp suits is my one and only complaint about the room). We were not expecting a rocky ocean, but found an area in front of the beach bar to swim. Beach was never crowded and ample beds/seating was always available. The pool was also very quiet and beautiful. Food was excellent. I recommend you try everything! There was always food and different menus available throughout the day. Breakfast favorites: Avocado toast, yogurt bowls, omelettes. Lunch favs: Burger, steak sandwich, salads, baguette sandwiches. Dinner favs: Lamb, filet, lobster, Ramon soup. All of the servers did a great job. Ketica stood out to us! She was pleasant from the start!
Our taxi driver Derek was available to us for the entire 2 weeks. I highly recommend him from the resort. If you’re looking to site see a lot you may want to rent a car but the roads are windy and hilly and narrow.
Akeel (sp?) was very pleasant and helpful throughout especially when we arrived with no luggage and sad faces. You will find him at the front entrance.
To summarize, this is the place to unwind, listen to the ocean and have a truly relaxed vacation.

Wonderful experience wish I had more space to write more about the resort!!
Wonderful experience from the minute we arrived, greeted warmly and with a rum punch by Akil Anthony, concierge, is definitely the glue that holds front of the resort together and keeps all the guests happy. Boat trip with Miguel was another highlight.

We spent four days at Long Bay and were thrilled at how this long time resort has fulfilled its destiny! Over the years, Long Bay has been a bit spotty but now it is a top-notch resort in a stunning location. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, outfitted with everything you need with ocean views. The restaurant is located beach side with delicious food and wine. The beach is one of the prettiest in the Caribbean. Smugglers Cove around the bend (an easy mile walk with a backpack, no car needed imo) is always a delight. Congratulations to the staff and management at Long Bay. What a beautiful and relaxing place for a vacation.

What an amazing stay! Greeted upon arrival with a drink of our choice, friendly check-in and happy energy all around.
We arrived early and our room wasn’t ready just yet, so we enjoy the beach, sat under a cabana and enjoyed our drink.
The pool across the way is nice, service was terribly slow, but it’s island time, so we enjoyed a few drinks while we waited for lunch.
Our room was gorgeous, beach front with a comfortable king size bed and a bathroom with ocean views. We loved everything about it.
The beach bar was fun, had swings, live entertainment and our waiter was awesome!
We highly recommend this hotel on Tortola and it’s 5star, the beach is beautiful and be sure to take a walk in both directions.
Cheers!

LOCATION - about 45-60 minutes from the airport; about $100 for one-way transfer to resort so rented a car...far from airport but the location/beach are amazing
LOBBY/CHECK-In - there is no lobby; it's a small thatched 10 x 10 hut in an open area by the road. There are about 2-4 people who coordinate registration in/out and housekeeping. Depending on arrival time you may need to wait an hour or so till your room is available. But the check-in person offered a punch at the bar while waiting.
ROOM OPTIONS - we chose one of the 800 square feet ocean front suites on the beach. There are a few beachside villas along the beach with these suites. There are about 4 larger ones farther down. Then the hillside options are available; however, the incline is steep. We saw people 20-25 years younger than us struggling to climb the hill.
ROOM - one of the best we have ever had in our 30+ years of traveling, nice and white with tile floors, comfortable bed/pillows; charging stations on both sides of bet, large space armoire with safe, many hangars, four roomy drawers, large ~50" TV controlled by FireStick needing your own Amazon/Netflix to log-in, writing desk by bed, nightstand on other side, live tropical greens in vases, sofa with coffee table in front and a driftwood console table behind the sofa
ROOM AMENITIES - snacks, beverages, and alcohol (for a fee), bottles of water with plenty available and re-stocked daily, tea-coffee-milk-sugar, French press and tea kettle. If you wish to stock your fridge, you can arrange before arrival for the staff to place the fridge items elsewhere. There is a well-stocked C&D grocery store about a 5-minute drive from the resort.
BATHROOM - separate toilet area with door, 2 stone oval sinks on vanity with ample lighting, water pressure is EXCELLENT, hot water is enough for ONE shower then there seems to be a time delay to re-heat the water for another person, rain shower head and wand, shower floor with embedded stones, shower faces patio and ocean with outside door access, window glazing wall-switch for privacy, many towels and 3 big bottles of body wash, conditioner, and shampoo
PATIO - about 50 feet from the water's edge, great relaxing view and sounds! ~200 square feet patio if on first floor with a covered and secluded feel because of walls and low shrubbery, ceiling fan, long 10' cushioned sofa and 2 cushioned chairs and table, palapa with cushions and lounge chair(s) about 20 feet from patio and foot-washing faucet by patio edge
HOUSEKEEPING - again, one of the best services we have experienced in our resort stays. The staff was timely and pleasant. The room was very clean. The wall paint had occasional black spots probably from guests killing these small black flies. No idea where they come from, but we usually had 2 or 3 per day in the room to kill. At least, they didn't bite. Sheets are changed every 3 days.
SPA - The Cure is the name, family-owned and not run by hotel, not chargeable to room, numerous wellness and aesthetic options; we enjoyed several sessions there to relax, rejuvenate, and refresh, located by one of the stores and pool
GYM/YOGA ROOM - side by side; VERY NEW-looking facility and equipment; 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, 2 bikes, 5 to 50 lb barbells, 5 kettles, ab balls, mats, universal station, chest/shoulder station, showers and weekly yoga class (I think on Mondays?)
RESTAURANTS - 1748 restaurant and 1748 sushi bar options. The restaurant is open for 3 meals a day every day of the week. The restaurant has varied delicious choices from breakfast guacamole toast, egg options, pancakes, berries... The lunch and dinners were excellent as well. We enjoyed the waygu burgers, salads, red snapper, and lobster to name a few. Each day has specials, too. The sushi bar upstairs is closed on Mondays and has tasty sushin, sashimi, and maki. Some may say the options are limited, but we ate something different every day for every lunch and dinner for a week; all were good! The staff is always pleasant. Allot about 90 minutes to 2 hours for a meal if you are not there right at the beginning of the meal time. Embrace the concept of PATIENCE-reading-puzzles etc, or you may become frustrated while you wait for a drink, to place an order, to receive the food, or to get the check.
BEACH - lovely stretch to walk in both directions, there is quite a bit of coral for ~90% of the beach, there are two areas where you will not see coral to enter and enjoy the water - one at each end of Long Bay (West). Nice waves for a person who wants to beginner-surf. There are also some paddle boards/equipment. If you have a car, check out Long Bay East over by the airport for a great beach with much less coral and smooth water. If you are a surfer, Josiah's Bay is the best island option.
RETURN? While the room and view were amazing, we will most likely not return to Tortola for a few years. Great relaxation place though! Not really a resort/location for small children and teenagers based on what we experienced and observed.

The service was outstanding. Akil and his staff consider you their personal guests.
From rides to Harbor Market or Smugglers Cove with snorkeling gear in hand; they were ready to make your stay as busy or as peaceful as required. The pomegranate pink gin mojito at Johnny's bar is now my favorite refreshment. Paired with a wagyu burger and fries you may not want to go anywhere else...
The island itself is beautiful, but we didn't explore far beyond our resort and smugglers cove. Nothing could compare with our tranquil view from our private lounge on our deck. With our heated plunge pool in the evening and the 80° ocean waves during the day; there was no need to look father from our sliding glass wall that insulated sound at night and opened up fully to let in the rhythmic unending sound of the ocean waves in the early morning light. Suddenly your shoulders aren't pinned to your ears, the electronic devices have been cast aside and the book you brought to read is open but unread- to pull your eyes away from drinking in the view just feels wrong.
Even the roosters, calling their families to gather around throughout the day add to the relaxed atmosphere. We woke earlier than normal on vacation but were never disappointed- why waste a moment with that view..... and the in room Guatemalan coffee and French press satisfies the need for the perfect cup of coffee.
Simply the best.

My wife and I stayed at the Long Bay Beach Resort in mid June which was a great time to visit because it’s not as crowded and the island seems to slow down a bit. Our stay at LBBR was amazing from the start. Akil made sure everything was perfect or “Coolio!”. We stayed on a bottom floor room which I highly recommend because you literally step right off your deck and on to the beach. The deck is very spacious with plenty of comfortable seating and floor lights at night. The beach has covered daybeds for chillaxing both during the day and at night. We felt completely safe on the beach at night watching the lights from Jost Van Dyke. The views are amazing, from the crystal clear water to the surrounding hills and islands in the distance. The room was very spacious with a huge walk-in shower. The bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in. We looked up the brand of sheets and they’re $600 for a set.
We reserved the private airport transfer which was well worth it. Bill, our driver, was very professional and shared his knowledge and passion of growing up in Tortola. We used the resort’s drivers for all our rides to excursions. It was great because they would be there waiting when you got off the boat. You didn’t have to call and wait for another driver when you got back to the marina. Trust me you’ll want to get back to the resort pool vs waiting 20-30min in a parking lot. Bill, Leo, and Dwayne were all awesome. Big thank you to all of them.
The bar and restaurant at LBBR were exceptional! Every meal had a local touch to it. Make sure to spend some time on the bar swings and order one of the specialty drinks. The new pool and swim up bar was a must for us. We spent a lot of time on boats running to surrounding islands, so when we got back, we were ready to get neck deep in the shade. Nakisha makes a killer Rum runner like no other!
Another recommendation is doing the couple massage and dinner on the beach package. If you add up everything, it’s a great deal for $500. It was a great way to finish our trip. Jareem was our waiter that night and made sure our dinner was spectacular. We ended up hanging out with him at the bar that night trading recipes and family stories. He brought us some Salt Fish and Pork Pates the next morning. So good! TY!
We want to give a HUGE thank you to the entire staff including the front desk, bartenders, servers, drivers and cleaning. It was truly one of the most memorable places we’ve ever stayed and we’ve travelled to almost every island in the Caribbean. You definitely kept everything “Coolio”!
Recommendations:
- 1748 Restaurant (of course)
- Sugar Mill Restaurant
- Da Coal Pot Restaurant
- Bananakeet Restaurant (spectacular views)
- Aristocat for day sails (Bjorn & Lady rock!)
- Kuraloo Two for island hopping and snorkeling (Cape J & Kai rock!) We enjoyed them so much we booked a private trip the next day to see the Baths and North Sound
- New Horizons Ferry to Jost Van Dyke (West End)
- Patricia’s (Smugglers Cove)
Last advice: If you decide to stay somewhere else, just go straight to the jewelry store to buy your partner something nice that says “Honey, I’m sorry we didn’t stay at Long Bay Beach Resort” 😉
Cheer!
Matt & Chelsea
