A very good hotel but I didn’t find myself gushing over it this time. This was our second visit and we stayed for two nights.
We were upgraded to a far bigger room than the one we had booked - the room was lovely and charming but the limited storage and lack of space in the bathroom would have been frustrating if we were staying for longer. Not a complaint as such as we were happy with the upgrade, but if we had paid for this room category we would probably have asked for a different room.
The property is beautiful as is the setting in lovely Deia. There isn’t a lot to do in Deia though, you are coming for the tranquility and scenery (and the hotel!). There are some great walks in the area if that’s your thing.
Service is mostly attentive and professional although at times felt a little wooden. We did even wonder whether staff interactions are scripted after having almost word for word identical interactions with multiple members of staff which felt slightly forced. Perhaps this is to be expected of a hotel owned by a big company looking to offer a consistent level of service across its hotels. This is understandable but to me a drawback when comparing to some of the wonderful independent luxury hotels out there.
We found the food and ambience at Miro to be just ok. There was a guitarist playing on the terrace one evening which we thoroughly enjoyed. We didn’t eat at El Olivo as we ate there last time and didn’t feel the need to repeat it - I remember it being very nice. The breakfast offering is excellent and the setting next to the pool makes for a lovely start to the day. However, we had to wait for a table on both days which is disappointing for a hotel of this standard and price point.
Overall La Residencia is a beautifully serene setting for a relaxing break and we had a very pleasant stay - it was just missing the “magic” I hoped for.

Belmond La Residencia is a gorgeous property in Deia, and though I already knew this when I booked the hotel for 7 nights, we were both wowed upon arrival. The setting in the mountains is stunning and you don't even miss being by the water because of the gorgeous views and pool area. As we checked in, we received welcome drinks and snacks, and a person went over the hotel's amenities and offerings. One of the things that's special about this hotel is all of the activities it offers as part of your stay with no additional fees. We booked a phenomenal sunset boat tour (cost included in the stay-- all we did was tip), and also signed up for cava tasting on site (very informative), cocktails in the garden, and yoga in the morning (for myself only).
Amenities, 11/10: In addition to the awesome main pool area, there in an upper adult pool, a hot tub, an indoor pool, a sauna, a yoga area with a view, and a fitness area (no views but decent equipment a couple treadmills). In addition, there are all the activities I mentioned above. I should also note that every night, we discovered a new little gift from the hotel at our room. It varied from local sea salt to a beautiful glasses/sunglasses cloth wipe with a Mallorca/hotel theme to a key chain to other items.
Service, 12/10: The managers at this hotel seem to really care about your experience. After I booked, the concierge reached out to book dinners for us since some of them (El Olivo) book up quite early. When we got to our room, we found a nice card welcoming us, a beautiful flower arrangement to mark our special occasion, and fresh fruit and biscuits. At the cocktails in the garden activity, a Belmond guest experience leader who visit several hotels chatted with us for 45 minutes and seemed genuinely interested in our thoughts about the property and our questions about other Belmond hotels. We had a very early departure time before breakfast opened, and our checkout was the best we've ever experienced. A person was waiting to check us out in person and gave us some lovely olive tea to take home. They also provided freshly-baked, unbelievably delicious ensaïmadas for us to take on our trip to the airport and coffee cups to go.
Food, 8/10: This is only place that could use a couple minor tweaks. We ordered a lot of drinks by the pool and they were good but not amazing-- and they cost about 20-25 euros each. When I ordered a Caipirinha, I received a glass full of small, pebbly ice, and such a small amount of caipirinha poured over the top that it felt like I was being served shaved ice! A Caipirinha is one of my favorite drinks, so I brought it back to the bar area so it could be fixed and the young bartender argued with me, telling me that that was how a Caipirinha was made. He googled it on his phone and eventually, after I pushed, made me a new one which had just slightly more liquid in the glass. My husband ordered many different drinks at the pool and was not impressed, and he has had some great drinks during international travels for work. It made me wonder if the pool bartender and bar staff were new and still needed training.
We ate at every restaurant on the property and I would say El Olivo is far and away the best. It's a special restaurant with a magnificent view and ambience, and we booked a time so we could see the sunset. It's such a magical setting that a young man chose to propose to his girlfriend next to us-- it was lovely! The other restaurants are good, but I probably would not eat at them more than once. If I were to stay here again-- and I would-- I would simply book dinners at other restaurants in the area. But I would still book my last night (and maybe my first night, too!) at El Olivo. It's worth it.
Breakfast was included in our booking and we enjoyed it every morning. There was a lot of choice-- from pastries to fruit to meats and cheeses-- and you could also order items off the menu (those were still included in breakfast without an extra charge).
Location, 10/10: The setting of this hotel is grand and beautiful. It's also convenient. You can easily walk down to the restaurants in town (at the bottom of the drive) and also take the short hike down to Cala Deia and Ca's Patró March (which has great ambience right next to/on top of the water and is a lovely, simple seafood experience. Book ahead online). I also walked through town and up the hill that faces the hotel for a beautiful view of La Residencia from Mirador de l’Església. I'm one of those people who sometimes get the itch to go 'do' stuff and explore when I'm staying at a hotel and the location offered several things to go see and do within walking distance. The pool setting is so gorgeous that I also felt content just lounging there with the view, listening to an audiobook.
SUMMARY: This hotel is special, and we would absolutely stay there again. I stayed here last year but could not indicate that on the TripAdvisor drop-down menu to write this review, so it's possible the pool drinks service issue has already been solved. But I believe their commitment to customer service is such that it will make the hotel even better in the future.

La Residencia is an art museum carved into the hillside of Deia! Absolutely gorgeous views, stunning architecture and design, and the friendliest staff we have ever experienced.
We were greeted with a welcome drink on the patio followed by an upgrade to a room with a beautiful view and a bottle of champagne waiting for us! It was such a nice gesture to start our honeymoon, something we will never forget.
Every touch was above and beyond. The art throughout the halls, the fresh breakfast in the morning, drinks on the patio, dinner at El Olivo. We fed the donkeys and relaxed by the pool. I couldn't have asked for a better stay and I can't wait come back and indulge in the luxury of La Residencia again.
Thank you so very much!

The Miro Restaurant is also a beautiful location with views of the mountains. The drinks menu is extensive and delicious and they made a bespoke drink for me as I wasn't drinking alcohol.
The only gripe was the restaurant and food - the lady serving us was quite sarcastic and a little grumpy, and my squid ink rice dish was very lacking in flavour. The anchovy starter was nice though, but not worth the cost.

Just returned from four fantastic days at La Residencia. This was our fourth visit in the past five years, and we have already decided to return next year.
I've been fortunate enough to visit a wide range of the world's most exclusive hotels and resorts over the past 20 years, and La Residencia stands out as one of the very best. The property is unique in itself, and when you add the beautiful and special location, you get a combination that is almost unbeatable. And the people who work here are the icing on the cake, - they are committed to making your day truly special.
Since we first visited the hotel, the property has become somewhat more private. The gates are now generally locked, and you use a key card to enter the property. Even though the hotel is mostly full, it still feels private and peaceful. There's never a problem finding a pleasant spot at the bar, or by the pool for that matter.
Strolling around the property or the surrounding area, with views of the mountains in one direction, the sea in the other, and the authentic stone houses in Deia, makes the stay truly unique. This time we traveled as a couple, but we also loved the place, travelling with our kids a couple of years ago. The hotel has a separate pool just for adults.
I've asked myself whether Belmond La Residencia and Deia might just be one of the most beautiful places on this earth. Already looking forward to our next visit.

this is a special place! i cannot speak highly enough about it. my husband and i stayed here for our 30th anniversary. we haver travelled a fair amount and stayed at luxurious hotels around the world. this is one of the top that we have ever experienced. it is a special spot in the mountains of mallorca in deia. we were a little skeptical upon our arrival after traveling for almost 18 hours in the rain. however, the skies cleared and so did our outlook! my one warning for older folks or those with limited mobility, there are stairs everywhere! if you cannot climb stairs, do not come here.
we stayed in a deluxe double room in the main building. there was a winding staircase to get up to our room and then a huge step down at the front door. the room was spacious with a sitting area separate from the bedroom. the bed was comfortable, but very high, almost causing us to have to jump into bed. the bathroom was nice, but only one sink. the room was fairly dark, we only had 2 windows on either side, so there was not a lot of natural light. that being said, it grew on us and we ended up loving it. it was cozy and super comfortable. every night at turndown we got little gifts in our room along with fresh fruit and water in the mornings.
the facilities are wonderful. the poet's walk, the roaming donkeys and sheep, the hiking trails, tennis courts, ping pong, lawn bowling, herb gardens and multiple types of fruit trees, world famous art, the spa and restaurants were all fabulous! the town of deia is just feet from the resort so you can walk into town for dinner or shopping. there is also a wonderful trail to walk down to the "beach" cala deia.
the service here was wonderful without being overwhelming. they could not do enough for you, but they werent suffocating you. the breakfast was delicious with a fresh juice of the day, along with a cold buffet and a menu where you could order hot food. the dinners at both miro and tramuntana were spectacular. local cuisine emphasized at both. we took 2 tennis lessons with the pros who were spectacular. shout out to peter and juan! we had massages that were supreme! there is so much to do here or you can just do nothing!
we just loved this place and cant wait to return!

Friendly and efficient greeting and check in for our (lateish) arrival.
Booked a room one up from the entry level which was furnished in traditional style and with a surprisingly good collection of modern art prints. Excellent bathroom (large fluffy towels and robes, Dyson hair drier). Very comfortable accommodation and, while not cheap, good value for money.
Excellent breakfast on the terrace overlooking the main pool. All you could want from the buffet plus a range of hot food to order.
Public areas not crowded when we stayed (we had the adult-only pool to ourselves!) though probably more crowded in high season.
Bar Miro nice for a drink on the terrace at sundown before going for dinner in the village.
Didn’t eat at Olivo this time. The former cafe by the pool has been turned into a grill in the evenings but the food in the village restaurants takes a lot of beating.
Hard to define the character of the hotel. It has changed a lot since it was owned by Richard Branson. It’s bigger and much more expensive (possibly why average stay is now less than 3 days) but that money seems to have been invested in the facilities, the staff and the fabric of the buildings, which are very high spec throughout and immaculately maintained.
They have also retained a lot of their staff who we’ve seen on previous stays, who all seem genuinely happy and keen to serve. They are also uncannily good at remembering (and using) your name, which is rare outside Asian hotels.
The other noticeable difference is the guest base which, possibly due to the introduction of direct flights from the USA, is much more (and maybe a majority) American.
Corporate guests are more in evidence too: we had Tory Burch, (which was one up on the Budget Blinds folk we encountered in Cannes).
The Residencia is facing increased competition but I think its unpretentious test stylish luxury and, most important, personal touch, is hard to equal let alone beat.
