Reviews of Ko`a Kea Resort On Poipu Beach
Beautiful resort right on the water and close to one of the best public beaches in the country. Amazing staff, comfortable beds and a great pool bar. Sunsets are amazing. Saw seals, turtles, and whales every day. On quiet days we were able to snorkel right off the beach.
Excellent location, staff, rooms. Highly recommend
Fantastic place! Staff were very friendly and helpful; they’ve thought of everything to make your stay as seamless as possible. Smallish hotel, which we liked, very well maintained. Rooms were in great condition. Location was perfect. Food was just ok.

We chose to stay at this hotel based on all the wonderful reviews regardless the price of $1880 total for 2 nights thinking our vacation would be fantastic. NO, it started with a security entrance door which needed the room key to unlock before going into the room hallway it made loud noises closing and opening, I felt like I was in a very unsafe motel. I booked a garden view room but my room had only parking lot view. Our hallway neighbors started waking up around 5:00am opening and closing the security entry door which was by our room, it was so loud with people talking and waking us up every time when guests opening & closing that door. Then we went to get coffee to-go at restaurant it was $8 each with added 20% of ROOM SERVICE CHARGE (we walked to get the coffee not delivered to the room) plus the bill suggested a minimum 18% of gratuities, the coffee was not drinkable at all. Finally we moved to another room, but the door was poorly insulated we could hear all our neighbors every movement when they came out from their room.

3.5 star hotel - not a luxury

Pros:
- nice staff
- clean rooms
- great views
Cons:
- outdated rooms including bed
- not sound proof roofs + super loud AC
- having to valet every time you need your car (and you will need your car) is not convenient especially when you are 5 steps away from your car
Overall:
Not worth the high nightly price. Also while we were they were having photo shoots for their social media advertising which took away from relaxation since they were all over the common areas throughout the day with drones and multiple photographers etc. They only let us know of this the day before so we couldn’t change our reservation and had to leave for those couple days during the day since it wasn’t a relaxing environment with full production going on.

The room was lovely and spotless. The bed was super comfortable. Housekeeping did a great job. Valets had our car to us immediately. Every staff member from the valets to the front desk to the servers was 5/5. Everyone was committed to showing guests a great time.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will come back and recommend it to others.
Thanks to the staff of the Ko'a Kea resort for a relaxing and memorable trip.

Amazing experience, amazing customer service
Kiamana and all the valet were so so kind and generous with their warm energy, customer service and great recommendations! They greeted us each time with an aloha and a smile, and they made Ko’a kea feel like home. We loved our whole experience!
We were pretty underwhelmed with our stay at Ko'a Kea. It bills itself as a “luxury boutique hotel,” but in reality, it felt more like a dressed-up, older motel. The rooms and overall property just didn’t live up to the price point or the way it’s marketed. Service and food...
We were pretty underwhelmed with our stay at Ko'a Kea. It bills itself as a “luxury boutique hotel,” but in reality, it felt more like a dressed-up, older motel. The rooms and overall property just didn’t live up to the price point or the way it’s marketed.
Service and food were both fine—nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. There also weren’t nearly enough beach chairs, which meant competing for space every morning. For a place that emphasizes its beachfront experience, that felt like a miss.
We spent the other part of our trip at the 1 Hotel in Hanalei Bay, which was a completely different experience—yes, it’s more expensive, but the quality, service, and atmosphere were on a whole different level. If you have the option, I’d recommend staying there the entire time.
All in all, Ko'a Kea wasn’t terrible, but we definitely felt oversold on the “boutique” experience and left feeling like it just didn’t deliver.

Staff were so attentive, friendly and professional. We loved Jessa, Jamieson, Becca and many more! The resort was beautiful and quiet, right on the beach. Red Salt Restaurant was superb. We can't wait to stay there again! Mahalo and aloha!
Beautiful and peaceful resort. We enjoyed the pool bar, pool, ocean view, access to the beach, and the Red Salt restaurant. I really appreciated access to a Peloton bike in the fitness center. We were well taken care of by all staff, especially Mana the valet!
Bait and Switch on Prices- Check Hidden Fees
Buyer beware! There is a lot of bait and switch on the rates here. Both when we booked directly with the hotel and also on Hotels.com there are high hidden fees, resort fees, taxes, mandatory valet parking which adds about $150per day to the charges which really adds up! Also,...

Also, this is not what we would consider a resort. It’s a pretty standard hotel with pool and ocean front.
The prices for food were really high. $60 hamburgers. We ate off property mostly, but the meal we had here was good.
That said, the staff was excellent. Especially the valets, they were very prompt and helpful. Kaimana was just great, they all were kind and offered great advice.
We had a lovely ocean view from our room that made the vacation really nice. You can watch surfers from the patio. The pool clean and nice with bar and food service. The rooms are basic. No microwave. There is small fridge and coffee machines.
Safer to walk down to another nearby beach where there is a lifeguard if you want to go in the ocean.
We feel the price was misrepresented to us twice, and it left us feeling cheated. We brought it up to the staff and they would do nothing about it. It’s against the law, get your price quote in writing and ask for all fees ahead of time.

My husband and I enjoyed nine days of pure bliss there. If you’re a Catholic, this property even offers Mass on-site every morning. Fabulous find!

The location and staff at this resort are absolutely 5 stars. We also loved that it had character and did not look a big box hotel. It was right on the coast and walking distance to Poipu beach where the turtles come to sun every day. The room itself is spacious, comfortable and well decorated. Every room has a balcony which is really lovely in Hawaii. We turned off the AC and opened the screen door every night to get some of that amazing Kauai air. The beds are super comfortable and the closets are spacious enough for all your belongings! Possibly my favorite part of our room was the shower which is huge, marble clad and had amazing water pressure! They replenish water and coffee each day and provide full cleaning service. Outside, things were very thoughtful with showers to clean off after a beach day, water stations and lots of places to sit. The pool and hottub were great and I used the hottub more than expected given that we were in the tropics! People here love to sit by the pool and the one day we were there, the same people sat in the same chairs all day! If you don’t get a pool chair by 9 am, you’re out of luck. But we were mostly out so this wasn’t an issue. The only reason I took one star off was that the resort charges for things like overnight parking and beach chairs which feels a little like nickel and diming at this price point. But honestly this was small issue and I still highly recommend this place particularly to those who want luxury but not a large hotel chain.

Ko’a Kea is rated as one of the top luxury resorts in the world by several travel publications and because it’s a Meritage Property, it means you’re getting comfortable ocean front accommodations and amenities, far less children, and far less noise than other more family-friendly resorts. The downside, it’s one of the more expensive properties to stay at. I recommend the oceanfront balcony room (though pricier, the view was totally worth it).

This was the best hotel/resort experience we have ever had. The resort is intimate and quiet and really has that Kauai ambiance and vibes. When we arrived, Kasey was there to greet us with open arms. He was very attentive, explained the accommodations and showed us to our room. He even ordered us late night snacks.
The food was incredible. We had room service two nights, the tuna and lobster gnocchi. We will definitely be returning.
