We have just spent a week in this hotel RHU MONICA. We are in our 50s, the average was 75 plus. The older lady on reception is so rude and dismissive. Her name I think was Maria.
.The room all be it large was outdated. The food was terrible, mainly cold, and a very poor selection. The same thing churned out every night. We were so dissapointed as this was our anniversary holiday. And this hotel is way over priced for what you get. Oh and at check out you dont even get as much as did you enjoy your holiday. Far to busy talking to each other ! Apalling customer service. Forget the evening entertainment ! Dire. Avoid this place at all cost ! Worst hotel, there are plenty in Nerja, where we have been many times. We went here as a treat after years of caring for elderly parents. This place is just like a nursing home for the elderly !

Stay from 2nd - 9th March. Just home yesterday. Despite the inclement weather, which is out of everyones control we had a lovely time at the Hotel Riu Monica. Our welcome on arrival from Ana in reception was absolutely fantastic. We have travelled extensively and I can honestly say she is the best front of house I've encountered! She was so friendly and welcoming and funny too, well done Ana you deserve the recognition. We also had a lovely glass of cold cava and check in was over in minutes. We were offered a room upgrade and stayed on the 6th floor in a sea facing room, the view was exceptional. The room was large and very clean. It had plenty of storage, drawers and a large wardrobe including a room safe. The bathroom was well equipped and the shower powerful and hot. There was also a mini fridge. The view from our room was looking down at the small beach where families and children played happily every day.
Wifi quality was very good.
The restaurant was very well run, the food was plentiful and of good quality and nice and hot too. There was a large choice of salad, soups, mains & desserts every night. The waiting staff were very efficient and the drinks including wine were very reasonably priced. Breakfast was excellent too, with lots of choice and a jug of coffee delivered to your table. You get one visit to the a la carte restaurant during your stay and it was a nice experience, something different during the week to break things up a bit.
There was entertainment in the lounge bar every night which mainly was to a good standard. The bar & waiting staff in the lounge work very hard, they are quick and the drinks are always presented well. All of the staff in the hotel are a credit to you, they are attentive, cheerful and greet all guests with a nice welcome. You can sign for all drinks purchased and pay your account at the end of your stay. We also used the sunbed area when the weather allowed, and had lunch in the pool bar, which was very good too.
The very pretty town of Nerja is a ten minute walk away, it has an old town vibe with narrow streets with shops and lots of bars and ice cream shops. The balcon de Europa is on the seafront and is worth a visit with buskers and live music on a daily basis.
There are lots of restaurants and bars in the area of the hotel and in the town, you will be spoilt for choice.
I would not hesitate to return to the Hotel Monica, thank you all for a lovely holiday. already looking at booking our next stay!

This was our first visit to this hotel and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice.
As all previous reviews say there really isn’t anything negative to mention.
Its prime location right on the beach is a bonus, hearing the waves as you sit around the pool is beautiful, seeing the beautiful sunrise and sunsets morning and evening too.
Hotel is spotless, the staff are all friendly and work very hard to make your stay enjoyable.
Evening entertainment during our week was all very good.
Couldn’t fault the restaurant it had everything you could possibly eat, although we like to eat out at local restaurants as well, these are only a 10min walk away or even across the road, where you find bars, cafes and a supermarket shop.
A 10min walk takes you to the centre of town which is filled with shops, plenty of bars and restaurants, plus the amazing Balcon De Europa.
We got the bus to Frigilana which is absolutely stunning. Lots of steps and climbing but well worth the views. There is a little train that gives a tour if the steps are too much with all the history of the village.
This place is definitely worth a visit.
We also got the little train outside the hotel to the caves, it took about half an hour, a bit bumpy but a good way to go. We got there early and had the caves to ourselves almost, after a couple of hours the coaches started to arrive and it got very busy, can only imagine what this would be like in the summer months.
So a good tip get there as early as you can.
The caves are spectacular, definitely the best we’ve ever seen. Magical.
We would love to come back one day and explore a bit more of what Nerja has to offer and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the RIU Monica again.
Thank you for making our first stay memorable.

Tui reps were there for quite long hours. And don't miss out on a lunchtime snack at Ruskins - just across the road.

Had an amazing time at the Rui Monica this is our second time in 3 months and also stayed many years ago. The staff in every department are amazing and always willing to help it’s them that make you want to keep coming back which we will be later on the year. The room was spotless the ladies did a great job cleaning them. The food in the restaurant was very tasty and plentiful and we was greeted every time with a smiling member of staff. The reception and bar area also was immaculate and once again the reception staff were always there to help.
Only been home less than a week and already missing the Monica next time we will stay longer so thank you until next time

Last visited this hotel in 2019 and delighted to say, still an exceptionally well run hotel - all staff friendly and most efficient - doing their absolute best to ensure service (reception, housekeeping and restaurant) is excellent.
Positive since last visit is there is now a kettle in bedroom; sadly the towels are still tiny and rough (and no conditioner) … bed very comfortable. Ate at onsite Spanish themed restaurant (bookable at reception) one evening - very disappointing as food really was not, in our opinion, authentic and buffet starters were poor. Much better food choices in main restaurant with plenty of selection and very reasonably priced drinks.
Hotel location is excellent - walk to town about 15 mins and level terrain. Pool faces sea and is peaceful (adults only hotel) . Indoor pool a lovely bonus.
Would we return (again)? Absolutely - Rui consistently seem to run hotels well and it is comforting knowing holiday will be a great one. Well done team.

All areas really well cleaned, food was good with a nice selection of dishes , sometimes buffet food can be a little cool but there is a microwave near the bread and toast machines(2) for those that like some dishes hotter. Table service very efficient, hotel busy but no problem finding a table at meal times .entertainment mostly good cheerful bubbly artists .Sunbeds always available in march 2 to 9 but weather poor not much sun but much to do in the town very pleasant 10 minute walk Overall a good hotel well worth a visit. Just an upgrade in rooms would be nice
