We had a wonderful stay at this resort Staff was friendly and accommodating. The property is beautiful, clean and relaxing. Small resort so not overcrowded. Three couples traveling together reserved the package deal which included 1 lunch, 2 dinners, a bottle of wine, a nighttime guided walk on the property, a guided hike to the Rio Celeste waterfall in Tenorio national park, and a couples massage. Two people were celebrating birthdays and the staff made them feel special. Live music in the main restaurant. Breakfast was delicious. We loved how the staff put papaya out in the morning outside of the restaurant to bring some of the animals and birds for the guests to see which was a great show!. The only somewhat disappointing aspect was the guests who booked the “package” were given a different pared down version of the menu for dinner which did not offer as many choices, the food was OK , somewhat underwhelming. The sushi in the Asian style restaurant was very good. Nelson the manager allowed us to eat in the new Asian restaurant even though it technically was not part of the package, which was very nice. There are happy hour drink specials each evening in the bar. Our guides were great on the tours, Byron for the night time walk, and Justin for the national park tour. Justin deserved an extra shout out for his knowledge and a tour that lasted 4 hours of walking on an injured foot. After the tour they provided a delicious platter of amazing pineapple, watermelon and mango. Highly recommend this resort.

The restaurant has a great buffet breakfast, and the dinner service offers a nice range of menu options, although the wine list is very limited. Service was excellent. There is a great bird feeder station visible from the dining room.

This was our second trip to the Rio, Celeste Hideaway, and we can’t say enough good things about it. The staff is top-notch. The grounds are amazing and the rooms are so beautiful. We strongly recommend staying in a forest view King. The complementary breakfast every morning is wonderful and the restaurants are very good in the resort also. We love all of the tours you can take surrounding the resort and we love how they feed the birds every morning during breakfast. Definitely 10 stars.

If you enjoy wildlife watching, we recommend bringing binoculars to the pool and looking up at the canopy - we were able to see several toucans, other birds, and spider monkeys!
Coordinating excursions through Hideway was so easy, and all the staff involved with the excursions were incredible (check out our tubing adventure review for Rio Celeste Nature...)!
Highly recommend this resort, and we hope to go back soon! (Shout-out to Kenzie for being a wonderful bartender too!)

The Rio Celeste Hideaway is beautiful, relaxing and has a truly intimate feeling. It is also in the perfect location to visit the Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio. I would recommend to everyone to stay at least 2 nights here. I wish we could have stayed longer!

One highlight for us was hiking to the Rio Celeste waterfall with our guide Felix, who provided a vast wealth of information about the park, birds and other wildlife. Thank you Felix for a wonderful excursion! There are walking trails on the property, very nice pool area and hot tubs with three different temperatures. Tropical setting, quiet and lots of privacy. Definitely recommended.

This is an amazing hotel that puts you right in the middle of the mysterious and beautiful rainforest. We stayed in a garden casita which was so spacious and had a truly awesome bathroom! Plus an outdoor shower which is an lovely experience! Walking along the paths of the hotel was a delight and we also ventured down to the River Celeste via the Armadillo trail. The staff are friendly and helpful and so good at helping you look at sloths and the many birds that live there - the birds also flock to the garden by the restaurant where there are feeding stations to attract them. Breakfast time was punctuated by guests oohing and ahing as toucans etc ate the fruit staff put out.
The breakfast was excellent with a good choice of bespoke dishes to order. Dinner, lunch and snacks by the pool were also excellent. Our only gripe was the price of wine! Living in London we are used to high prices but 18 $ for a glass of wine seemed extortionate. Even the cocktails were cheaper…..
We did an excellent tour of the nearby park and walked to the waterfall where the water was a blue colour - highly recommended. We also took the night tour at the hotel and saw tree frogs and snakes.
The pool is lovely and the sun beds are covered so when it rains you stay dry…..there are 3 jacuzzis though they seemed to be having problems regulating the temperature when we were there.
All in all a fab experience.
We loved this hotel and can see why guests return.

I planned a 30th birthday surprise for my husband to Costa Rica. We stayed at the Hideaway for 5 nights. We arrived rather late due to a delayed flight but we were greeted warmly with a fresh welcome drink along with our room keys and hotel map.
Our casita was impeccably clean and comfortable. Not to mention, a perfect mixture of modernity and nature. The property has a ton of wildlife all over including frogs, a sloth, a capuchin monkey, and plenty of birds. It was incredible to take in the animals while having breakfast. The pool is clean and warm, in addition to 3 hot tubs which came in handy for the cool rainy weather we experienced.
As far as restaurants, there are 2 on property for which reservations are required. No worries, everyone at reception is more than willing to make it a seamless process. A very special thank you to the waitstaff; Josue, Paulo, Cristian and Katherine. Each of them went out of their way to be friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. My favorite of the 2 is definitely Mandarina; their new Asian fusion spot. I had a fried rice there that I still think about. While dining at Mandarina, manager Nelson engaged us in a friendly conversation about our thoughts on the food and even gave us a keepsake to take home - a little tree frog figurine that now sits in our living room.
The reception staff were also fundamental in helping me give my husband a sweet surprise for his birthday. Rachell was able to print a card with a personalized message and provide petals in our room.
My husband and I also enjoyed walking on the property as there are 2 trails that lead to the Rio Celeste. We also had the opportunity to get body scrubs done at the spa with Maria and Juan Carlos. We left feeling squeaky clean and rejuvenated.
If privacy, comfort and nature are on your checklist; then Hideaway Rio Celeste should be your next destination. Pura vida!
P.S Come prepared for rain just in case; rain jackets, light sweaters, closed toe shoes

A beautiful property for rainforest immersion and luxurious relaxation. Staff are attentive to every detail and happily accommodated last minute (weather related) changes in scheduling our adventures.
The bed was actually even more comfortable that our own, which is saying a lot. Relaxing on our lanai surrounded by jungle sights and sounds was a perfect start and end to every day, with fun excursions during the day.
We had all our meals at the hotel. The lunch and dinner menus were creative and the presentation beautiful, but the taste didn’t quite measure up. I’m not sure why, Breakfast was the best meal of the day with lots of options, all very good.
The trails through the rainforest to the river are lovely, if a bit challenging for us older folks (81 and 72). But with good shoes, hiking sticks and ropes along the steepest bit, the loop was well worth it — especially with river bathing to top it off.
I can’t say enough about the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff throughout the resort during our weeklong stay. No request was too much for them and they frequently went out of their way to recommend things we might not have thought of ourselves.
The only bad thing I can say is that, having stayed for a week at Hideaway Rio Celeste, it will now be hard to stay anywhere else.
