The room was good-sized, with a comfortable bed, and very quiet. The breakfast buffet included meats, cheeses, and sweet breads, among other choices, and was very good.
The staff and service were excellent.
Special thanks to Jorge, the proprietor and sommelier of Jorge’s Wine Bar, which is part of the hotel. He is very knowledgeable, and was generous in sharing his passion for wine.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Hotel Rathaus from September 4th to the 11th. Overall, our stay was quite disappointing, but I want to start by acknowledging the positives.
The hotel is in a convenient location on a charming street, and the live music on one night, paired with a complimentary glass of wine, was a pleasant touch. Additionally, Janko Milosevic, a graduate student working at the front desk, was exceptional—he always greeted us with a smile and did his best to assist us during our stay.
Unfortunately, beyond these points, our experience left much to be desired. Although the hotel advertises itself as a 4-star establishment, it felt more like a 3-star with some peculiar design choices. The rooms are decorated with what can best be described as an abstract, hieroglyphic style, which we found distracting and frankly a bit unsettling—almost as if an art project had gone off the rails.
The hotel brands itself as a "wine hotel," which we were excited about, but that concept didn’t fully materialize in any meaningful way. It’s a nice idea that isn’t executed well.
From a practical standpoint, the quality of the workmanship was disappointing. Several features in our room, including the glass shower and bathroom door, didn’t fit properly, leaving us with a space that felt unfinished. We requested that a loose shower hook, which was on the verge of falling off, be repaired, but nothing was done about it during our entire stay.
For those with mobility issues, the elevator poses a bit of a challenge. Though the hotel has an elevator, it doesn’t go down to the ground floor, which makes accessing it inconvenient, especially if you have luggage or difficulty walking. This isn’t something they mention on their website.
Moreover, we overheard other guests having similar issues during our stay. One couple mentioned their bed had been made up for a single person despite booking as a couple, and another guest had a water leak from the ceiling dripping into their room.
One of the stranger aspects of the room layout was the toilet, which was located in a separate, narrow hallway-like space that lacked any shelves or décor. The sink and shower, on the other hand, were in an entirely different part of the room. It all contributed to a feeling that we were staying in a glorified college dorm room rather than a luxury hotel.
Perhaps most frustrating was an incident with a staff member at the front desk regarding tickets to the Spanish Riding School. After we declined his offer to help purchase the tickets, he became quite agitated, even threatening to charge our credit card. When we raised the issue with the owner, we were surprised by his dismissive attitude, and it led to a drawn-out argument with the manager over a charge we never agreed to. Ultimately, our credit card company instructed us to write an email to the owner in order to proactively avoid the false charge.
In the end, Hotel Rathaus feels like a place in desperate need of renovation. The atmosphere is a bit gloomy, reminiscent of something you might expect in East Germany before the wall came down. For the price, we expected far more in terms of service, design, and overall experience. There are likely better options in Vienna for travelers seeking true 4-star luxury.

Spacious room, delicious breakfast
Very spacious hotel room for a big city. Comfortable bed (but pillows are way too soft). Curtains are light-blocking enough (could be better). Quite enough (please try to improve the door lock. Very spacious hotel room for a big city. Comfortable bed (but pillows are way too soft). Curtains are light-blocking enough (could be better). Quite enough (please try to improve the door lock. It's impossible to close the door without it making a noise).
Breakfast is fantastic. Except for the big spread on the buffet benches, you may also order eggs/bacon etc freshly cooked for you.
There's a small elevator but it starts from the reception floor and not the ground floor, so you do have to carry your suitcases for maybe 12 steps up, but the young gentleman at the reception did very kindly offered his help.
The hotel is located in a nice and quiet non-touristy area, with plenty of shops and restaurants around, which have reasonable local prices. It's convenient enough to walk to tram stops or just walk to places.

This was the second time we stayed in this hotel, the first time being 7 years ago. We loved this hotel then and our opinion hasn’t changed. The breakfast is superb with so many local delicacies that one needs to restrain oneself not to overeat. Service was as friendly and helpful as we recalled from the first time. The wine themed room was spacious and well appointed and the Grune Veltliner excellent 😊
The location is ultra convenient: quiet street, yet close to public transport, several restaurants and bars close by , walk to the Museumquartier. The area itself is actually a destination in itself. Looks like we will be back for a third time in the next year or two.

We were (unfortunately) only here for one night in December. A very spacious room (108) which was really comfortable and contemporary (only gripe was the lack of a kettle). The hotel was really well placed for the Christkindlmarkt and other Viennese highlights are walkable from here too. The emphasis and specialisation in wine was evident when we availed ourselves of our complimentary glass of wine. We spent a delightful half an hour with a member of the hotel staff sampling and learning more about the delicious Austrian Grüner Veltliner grape variety - a real treat! I only wish we could have stayed here for longer.

Lovely little boutique hotel. The staff were super-friendly and helpful, gave us some great suggestions for local Austrian restaurants (we wanted to eat traditional Austrian fare). Our room was lovely - spacious, clean and neat. Bed was very comfy. Location was great, very convenient for the big Christmas market a short stroll just down the road, and near enough to the old town centre for us to do all of our exploring on foot. Breakfast was great, fabulous smorgasbord of delicious offerings, we particularly liked the local sourcing of quality products. We tried a very nice wine at the hotel when we arrived. If we had been there at a warmer time of year, we probably would have tried more of that in the outdoor area. Very glad we chose to stay at Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design.

Large room with two window seats made it a very pleasant stay. Staff were very friendly and as mentioned before the breakfast is excellent with lots of continental choice. Hot breakfast was eggs, sausage and bacon which were cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. I also liked that on each table was a morning report of the weather and things to do in town. On the back page were details of all the ingredients were locally sourced from.
Location was great and only a short walk to the parliament building and the nearest U-Bahn station
Staff were excellent and had a really good knowledge of the wines they had on offer in their bar area and were happy to explain the different ones on offer.
Very much liked the free glass of wine on days you chose not to have your room serviced. Very nice touch.

The Rathaus Wein & Design is a modern hotel of middling quality tucked in side street approx 10 minutes walk from the U bahn at the Austrian parliament.
The room was clean and spacious but oddly designed.
The toilet and shower were in separate rooms which would have been good had there been a hand basin in the toilet. Sadly there was not so it was necessary to open three doors and walk through the bedroom to get from one to the other in order to wash your hands after going to the toilet. Not very hygienic!
On the positive side the area around the hotel had numerous restaurants, cafes and pubs offering a range of breakfast or dinner choices suitable for vegetarian and carnivorous tastes. We were not tempted by the €25 euro per person cost of breakfast in the hotel.
On the one night we attempted to drink in the hotel bar it was not properly staffed and could only offer wine or beer (no spirits or cocktails).

Breakfast was underwhelming. The wine bar was nice, but we only had one drink there. I found the room to be a bit dated but large. The bathroom was nice, and had a good shower. Vienna is an expensive city so the price was reasonable and the quality of the room was good enough.
