we stayed for 2 nights last week and loved it. The hotel is in a perfect spot, 2/3 min walk from the centre of the city. There's parking at the back of the property and you're sent a code to enter the hotel. It didn't bother us at all, but we didn't see a staff member while we stayed there, as everything is done on access codes - just something to consider if you like the face to face touch. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the room was extremely comfortable. We were in the 4th floor and again, not an issue for us, but there's no lift so if you have mobility issues you will need to request a ground floor room. The toiletries in the bathroom were lovely and there was a safe/hair dryer and bathrobes. Would highly recommend a stay here.

My wife and I visited Quebec City to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary, and we stayed at Hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis in the heart of the old city. We found the location perfect for our visit, which included dining at Le Champlain Restaurant at the Fairmont Frontenac Hotel, a walking and dining tour of Quebec City, the on and off bus tour, and a river cruise. All were readily accessible from the hotel. In sharing the celebration of our anniversary, the Hotel provided rose petals on the bed and certificates for breakfast a wonderful restaurant a few blocks away, La Buchette - Buvette Québécoise. The hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis is a nicely maintained historical site, with some 28 rooms over four floors. We stayed first in Room 26 and found its architectural features quite charming - thick beams in the ceiling, a hand-painted armoire, and a beautiful floral mural on the main wall. Later we stayed in Room 5, which included a full sitting room in addition to a spacious bathroom with Jacuzzi bath. Given its location, we were able to visit local bars and bistros within minutes of our hotel, and we found our way around Old Quebec City within the first day of our four-day stay. Note that because this is not a national chain hotel it would be wise to have a printed copy of your reservation when seeking a taxi at the airport. Our driver knew the street very well (it is a main but narrow street), but until we showed him the street address, he was uncertain of the hotel’s location. During our stay we found the hotel’s concierge to be very responsive, answering our questions within minutes of texting or calling them (but the concierge is not on site, and we checked ourselves in using either the keypad or a physical key).

Pros: Great location. Clean. Ok bed. Cons: No lift or hotel reception, slow WiFi and archaic TV. No clear instructions on how to use code to enter the hotel, thankfully we ran into other guests who showed us (they were also confused when they checked in). I believe they clean the rooms every two days but hey, they haven't forgotten to leave an envelope to tip the cleaner where you can't miss it in the room. They also stock the bathroom with the world's thinnest single ply toilet paper! On top of everything, we were given the wrong code to our room. We tried calling them twice on two different numbers and nobody answered. We finally managed to get someone over text who gave us the correct code. No apology was given. Be warned, this feels like an Airbnb masquerading as a hotel and is no way a luxury experience. Would stay elsewhere if we went back to Québec city.

We were very pleased with our stay here. The decor and experience fits with the Quebec City vibe. It was also very clean. The location was ideal for the different sights. The parking worked out well but must be reserved ahead. I would stay here again!

This is a beautiful hotel, very clean and located within walking distance of the best things to see. This was our first time in Quebec. The issue was accessing things when we first arrived. The hotel is run from offsite (as an Airbnb) via emails and texts, which is fine as long as things go smoothly. The following are information to future guests and suggestions to hotel staff: Request specific directions if parking is reserved. The lot is in an alley behind the hotel and since Rue Saint –Louis is one way, you need to turn right on the side street BEFORE the hotel. (Due to construction and unfamiliarity we became lost.) There are 3-4 spaces available behind the building and another cordoned off with plastic chain. The only space available for us was with the chain and was not easily identified as the hotel’s. (We nearly parked in a space belonging to a resident but were luckily informed by the next door restaurant valet). Perhaps the hotel could provide a small map upon booking. Be aware the rear door of the hotel is not accessible. (Multiple vehicles were in queue for the restaurant so we intended to enter from the back.) Perhaps an entry system similar to the front entrance or other code operated/self closing mechanism could be installed. Be aware there are TWO separate stairways to rooms. We chose the wrong one, but if you’re not used to climbing stairs, it would be better to know. (On our second day, we found a small plaque indicating room numbers and associated stairway mounted on a column.) The plaque was small and inconspicuous. If the hotel wants to preserve the ambience of the lobby, perhaps locate a prominent sign at the front desk counter or remake the existing sign with more contrast between background and legend for better visibility. First of all, this is a great hotel! The room was beautiful and comfortable. The location is great. This hotel is contactless for check-in. This process could use some refinement. We purchased parking with our room. Upon arrival, we used our code to enter the building. We received a picture of the parking area however; this did not include directions on where to find the parking lot. Once inside we waited for a hotel staff member to walk through the lobby (the front desk is not manned) and asked about parking. That person eventually found someone to help us and she walked us around the outside of the building to the parking lot. We got our car and parked. We were unloading our bags when someone from the hotel happened to come out the back door and asked if we wanted help with our luggage. This was very nice and we took him up on the offer. Once we got to our room, we found that the room code was not yet activated because we had arrived a bit early. The gentleman helping with out bags was able to let us into the room and assist in getting the room code activated. We were very thankful for his help. I know the hotel says they are always available with a phone call; however, my cell plan carrier does not have service in Canada so I would have not been unable to contact the hotel if the gentleman was not there to assist us. Also, we did not yet have the internet code because that information was in the room. I will say that everyone was super nice and helpful. The next day, we were walking through the lobby and a guest who had just entered the building asked us if we knew where the parking was. So . . . . we walked him around the building and showed him the parking area. On the 2nd day of our stay, someone parked us in for the better part of the day. Thankfully we didn’t plan on using the car this day but not sure how we would have ever figured out who parked us in and/or how to get the car moved. The only other comment I would make is to be sure and make breakfast reservations. The restaurant is busy and reservations are necessary if you don’t want to wait. The breakfast really good. It is a popular and busy restaurant just down the block. We also liked the fact that the hotel had a place to get ice that included a few amenities including a microwave. Overall, this is great hotel with a great location and we really enjoyed our stay. I think a few refinements would help the contactless check-in process and parking directions would be a great help for guests. I gave 4 stars because if the this but would highly recommend the hotel.

Hotel Le Clos Saint Louis We stayed here for a few days to celebrate our anniversary in the old city. The hotel is a 190-year-old building within walking distance of all the sights and was perfect for our stay. The interior is beautiful with traditional furnishings and décor. The lobby is especially nice and we took advantage of it to sit in the plush armchairs and enjoy a glass of wine there. The bed was very comfortable and the view from our room #6 was lovely. In spite of being in the middle of everything, it was very quiet at night. Our stay included breakfast on both mornings at La Buche, which we really enjoyed. Our room was on the top floor, so several flights of narrow, winding stairs to climb. We are both fit seniors and were fine but we would probably book a room on a lower floor next time just because of carrying luggage up and down. The self-check-in and out was easy and staff were always just a text away. We’re used to this in small boutique hotels in Europe but it might irk someone used to concierge services.

It's hard to find a hotel in a bad location when you're staying in the upper part of the Old City, but this hotel was especially convenient, both for exploring the immediate location and venturing outside the gates. Room itself was fine--clean, comfortable, charming, small. If you book, do so directly through the hotel. That will give you access to breakfast at La Buche, a block away. This is no lightweight continental affair. It's hearty. Like, we-need-to-survive-Quebecois-winter hearty. What we ate FOR FREE every day would have cost us over $50CAD. This hotel is NOT for you if: --You have mobility issues. Most rooms are on upper floors with no elevator. Stairs are winding and narrow. Even the stairs to get inside are steep. --You need on-site assistance. Check-in and nearly everything else is DIY. In 3 days, we never saw an employee. That said, they were incredibly responsive online and by phone.

In the heart of sights to see, we were very happy with this historic hotel. On the fourth floor (quite a climb though we did it as seniors), our room was large with a queen bed, 2 chairs, a bath with jacuzzi. The old style traditional French decorations had the QC vibe. Windows let in light during the day and drapes closed for a comfy nap. Expresso and tea available and a small fridge (no microwave). It is a very quiet hotel with no traffic or neighbor noise at all. Easy check-in and immediate response on any inquiries. Internet connection strong. Reserved parking behind the hotel, a major plus if you have a car. Closet and drawer space. If you have an electric car, you may opt for the garage close by an an EV charger.

Lots of great restaurants a few steps away. Contactless check-in but staff are easily accessible and extremely helpful. Our spacious room was on the top floor, clean and beautifully furnished. Very comfortable bed and tea pot and large cups was a very nice touch! Definitely got a few steps in each day climbing up and down the beautiful staircase. The breakfasts included were at La Buche (located a couple doors down) were absolutely delicious with different options available. It’s “the” happening place to dine, great atmosphere and excellent friendly service. Reservations recommended so book early or you’ll be waiting in a long line! Limited parking at the back of the hotel so important to pre-book before arriving. Would recommend painting lines between parking spots to ensure all cars have adequate room. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

What a fantastic stay! Located right in the middle of everything, and walkable to all the sights, restaurants and shopping. This truly feels like a step back into a more genteel time. Our room (SO2) was located on the main floor, a short walk through the lovely 'lobby/reception room'. After a cab ride from the train station (approx $10 USD) We had already sent our information via email, and had rc'd a response for our code for check in. We dropped off our luggage early with a gentleman at the desk and were out the door--easy peasy! We were very pleasantly surprised with the size and decor of our room--welcoming and clean. Bed, bedding and pillows were fine, although we could have used 2 extra pillows. I'm sure if we had asked we would have gotten them. The room was set up so that you could eat there, and there was a refrigerator and coffee maker also. Down in the basement there were extra items and a microwave. Bathroom was roomy with an added table (great for all us gals!) and the most important thing: we were right next to the front sidewalk, and you couldn't hear a sound! That is so important for a good night's sleep. We would love to recommend this hotel to everyone--you won't regret one moment!

One thing to note is that you're pretty much doing a self service at this hotel, they give you the entry code,wifi details and room code the day before you arrive and do answer questions via phone or messages. There no one around to greet you, you get your extra toiletries downstairs where they also have a larger fridge and microwave. Honestly I didn't mind this at all, it felt homely. The rooms have a mini fridge, kettle and Nespresso machine. Mentioned earlier, the location is really very convenient and wonderful, walking distance to places of importance in the old city. It was a good stay and would consider returning here.

There is no service in this hotel. You are given a code for the front door, and another code for your room. You never see any staff, ever. There are extra towels if you need in the basement. During our 4 night stay we did get maid service once. Our room (room 20 on the 2nd floor) was extremely cold (in October), there was no way to adjust the heat - I did not see any thermostat. We attempted to contact someone by texting the provided numbers in the room but received no response. Not finding any blankets either we ended up using the provided robes as a contingency. Note that room 20 has a very high bed, we are 5ft 8in tall and had trouble hopping up into it. The property itself is lovely, beautifully furnished. Its easy to carry baggage up the 1 flight to the room. Location is excellent, within the old walled city.

We called the number it was not in service and no one responded to the text. I have no problem that there is no receptionist but it is very important to be able to get a hold of someone. We were there for 3 nights with no heat. That is the reason I could only rate it a 3.

We booked a room not on the ground floor and realized there would be stairs involved. What we didn't realize that it would be two sets of stairs one of which was very winding and difficult to navigate with suitcases. They really are an accident waiting to happen. The room itself was charming and the bathroom modern. Unfortunately they placed my bed in a corner that made accessing one side of the bed difficult due to the radiator, some pipes and bed post. I hit my hop repeatedly. Bad layout, as there was plenty of space in the room otherwise.
